It's been nearly 3 years since we moved into our Starwood home. We continue to be blown away by the ongoing commitment they show their clients, long after they've completed the work. I still, to this day, text our project manager, David Allen for random questions or to ask for help that only he could assist with. He knows our home as well as we do (probably better than we do) and is always quick to pick up the phone or come to our house to help in any way he can. He assured us way back when we moved in, that just because the project is done, he is always a phone call or text away if we need him. Having Starwood build our home is/was one of our biggest regrets ever! It took two years to build our very simple Starwood Custom Home. They are still now working on the punchlist that should've been finished before we moved in in August 2023. It took six months to get some of our screens. We're still waiting on screens. Still waiting on major floor, repairs, electrical installation issues, and cabinet repairs. This review is long overdue. Our experience with Starwood was PHENOMENAL and if (more likely when) we build again, they will certainly be who we will use. My wife and I are both Realtors and met with several builders. Starwood we could tell from the get go was going to be our builder. We were in the pre-build stage for 2.5 years (I'm sure they wondered if we were ever going to build). Then we were all systems go. Our project manager, Ben Allen, was amazing to work with. Always on point, always answered questions and never sugar coated anything. In our business people try to sugar coat things, don't, just give it to us straight. He was running up on the roof while it was pouring rain to put a tarp down. Hands down, the best. Day of move in came, he was there all day busting his butt to get our home ready. I would never hire this company. The staff are extremely rude and disrespectful. There is a home being built in our neighborhood. The workers park all on our yard. They have our entire cul de sac blocked. We cannot put our recycle or garbage bins out for collection. They have dropped construction debris, garbage and motor oil on the road. We are very happy with our choice to use Starwood to build our custom home. They were the only builder who took the time to work with us to build our dream home within our budget. We broke ground in September of 2020 and had our challenges along the way (pandemic, labor and material shortages, price hikes) but Starwood was able to deliver on their promises and complete our home. Absolute pass on this company. I hired them build my new 6K+ SQFT house and it has been nothing but a disaster. They will smile and pitch you a great pitch, Jake the owner will give you the "rah rah, we always take care of our owners". However, they have ZERO pride in workmanship. They will take every short cut the can, from the foundation out of level, horrible framing, nightmare multi-sliders, failure to install windows correctly, stucco finish that looks like they hired a two year old, paint that peels off the door, electrical issues everywhere. The use the cheapest subs they can find, who then hire piece meal labors. They will sent you a change order for EVERYTHING, their cost allowances are under priced by 40-60% so be prepaid to pay at least 20% over the contract price. Before you sign a multi million dollar contract with them reach out to me and we can have a long talk, share pictures and come walk my house. Avoiding this company will save you a lot of pain and heartache. read more

From the first phone call we had with the design team, the countless visits in person and on the phone they never seem to be upset with our questions, concerns and crazy ideas. David kept us ahead of the project so we didn't hit any delays in the building process. Starwood Care's about every detail they put in a home. They took our crazy ideas of exposed air ducts, metal fixtures, crazy colors and found a way to make every idea we had come to life. David would keep us grounded and moving forward. Starwood has been building our house for over a year, and it's only 3200 square feet. They did not estimate costs correctly and so far we have paid more than $44,200 out-of-pocket for items that went over budget--even though we told them in great detail ahead of time exactly what we wanted; they just didn't research the actual cost of items. Starwood does not have their own subcontractors and hires independent subcontractors for each portion of the work. Many builders work this way, but this has caused huge gaps in work getting done, and many days no one is working on the house at all. Our project manager seems disorganized at times and he and/or subcontractors have made changes to the house without asking us. Our house was originally supposed to be done in October 2017; now it's February 2018. But with the amount of work left and the very, very slow pace of progress, I'll be surprised if we meet that date. read more
