Twice I have booked with a stylist at STARZ in Brunswick. Twice, they have cancelled on me moments before my appointment. Today, I received a text telling me the appt had changed from 2 to 2:30. Asked for partial highlights ($110) she gave/charged me full highlights ($145) without asking me before doing so. I feel like this was not ok because I easily could have not brought enough money or been unable to afford this new price. She also gave me bright blonde highlights with barley any toner wich did not blend well or look nice with my natural hair color. Nice people but not great at listening to what I wanted. read more

Recently relocated to Maine and out of all of the moves we do as a military family, I have to say that the most stressful part for me is, finding new personal care spots such as a hair salon. As someone who has had a vet horrible hair cut experience, I dread trying to find the one to take a chance on and willingly go months or years waiting to find the right one. I took that chance with Starz and didn't ask for anyone in particular but I just so happen to get placed with the perfect stylist, Chrystal! She listened and gave me the exact cut I was looking for. She's so sweet and personable and great to chat with. Before you know it, your are in and out. The price is a little high for a cut ($45), but I will gladly pay it again and again knowing I won't walk out looking like a butchered sheep dog. I'd had a decent cut several months earlier so rebooked. Talked with the stylist about the color I wanted -- dark ash blonde. We even looked at a sample board. Left with nearly white peroxide blonde hair, my hair damaged as hell, and a cut so bad I trimmed it myself to give it more shape. Starz is... definitely not my favorite. Now, it's been a few years since I went to have my hair cut, so they could have completely been revamped; however, my biggest pet peeve with *any* stylist is when they do *not* listen to their client. When I went to Starz, it's because I had a few poor experiences with my former stylist.. for the exact same reason, actually. I walked in, got seated, and everything was going great! Then when she asked me how I usually have my hair cut, I explained that I typically get 1" taken off to just get rid of the dead ends, and I like to have some nice, long layers. When I left? I was missing about 6" of hair, and had no layering. I also have wavy/curly hair, so I looked like a triangle. Now, I would normally have said something when I noticed how much hair she was starting to cut off; however, she turned me to face away from all mirrors, so I didn't know until the damage was done. I was absolutely horrified that I had to wait another 6-12 weeks to get my hair fixed. I had to settle for straightening my hair every day (which isn't an easy task), and... it was just... not good. So. Starz has left a less-than-desirable impression on me. I've yet to go back, because... well, because I don't want another disaster to happen. read more

She was attentive and asked all the right questions and explained why she used a certain color product, and the results confirmed she knows her craft. I was in town visiting family for the week and I decided to get my hair cut. It's always hard to find a good stylist, especially when you don't know the area, but this time I lucked out! I learned about Starz from looking up places online and booked an appointment. The studio is lovely and so are the stylists. My stylist, Chrystal, did an amazing job on my hair. I wasn't sure what I wanted for a style so she and I talked over what she thought would look best. The shop is in a charming building and is large and stylish. They offer fresh coffee in the cozy waiting area, which is a nice touch.

This place is so-so. They did an okay job waxing my eyebrows, but it wasn't quite what I wanted. Same goes for the haircut. I told her what I wanted, but then I kind of ended up looking like a middle-aged woman. There have got to be better salons in Brunswick. read more

This place really is so-so. I have been here before about a year ago and I had a really good experience. For some reason this time it was bad. I went in to just have a darker color done because I had went to red a few weeks ago. Though I didn't have an appointment they took me right away (mostly because the person mistook me for someone else with the same name). After the person put the color on she just left with out really telling anyone else anything. So I ended up being almost forgotten about. Though it wasn't really the big of a deal to me, I would have rather waited for someone else that would have had the time to do it all or just been told that they couldn't. I am hoping that it was just this one time and if I ever decide to go back things will be different. read more

I recently visited my daughter and son in law in Maine. During my visit, my daughter suggested that I get a haircut since my hair had grown so long. I said no because all of my experiences with hairdressers have not been memorable. I had never found a hairdresser who could layer my hair the way that I wanted. One hairdresser had told me that I would end up hating my hair if I had it cut in layers and another hairdresser told me that I would not look good with layers in my hair. Even though I did find a few hairdressers who did agree to layer my hair, I was always disappointed with the results. I couldn't make my hair look right with the blow dryer, gel, or mousse. It just wouldn't fall right. I had given up on trying to find a hairdresser who knew how to layer my hair the right way. I was starting to believe that it couldn't be done. My daughter told me that I should go to Shauna who is her hairdresser at Starz Salon. I was very reluctant but went along with my daughter who had nothing but praise for Shauna. I found a hairstyle online, printed it, and decided to bring it along with me. When I got to the Salon, I realized that I forgot the hairstyle picture. I met with Shauna and quickly told her what I wanted done. I was really nervous. After all was said and done, I had 3 to 4 inches cut off my hair. My hair is now shoulder length and I finally have the many layers that I always wanted. I was so pleased with this haircut that I will absolutely drive to Maine to see Shauna whenever I need another hair cut. Her skill and expertise is worth a drive from Mass to Maine. She is superb and I could not be happier. My hair falls beautifully after I blow dry it. No gel or mousse. I don't have to fuss with it to get it to fall perfectly. It was all in the CUT and Shauna knew exactly how to cut it so that it would fall exactly as I have always wanted it to. Great Job! I couldn't be happier. read more

Even though Starz isn't my regular hair salon I had a $50 gift card so I decided because I needed a hair cut that I would want to use it. So I asked the women to do the type of cut that I ALWAYS get done at my other salon. I just wanted a trim on my long layers and then an inch cut from the bottom (wanting the the long layers to blend evenly with the rest of my hair). Nothing too drastic. To make a long story short, she cut my layers WAY too short, even though I just asked for a trim on my LONG layers, so now they don't blend evenly with the rest of my hair making it hard to work with and making it look way too similar to choppy bangs. My mom ended up having to cut the bottom portion of my hair with kitchen scissors in order for it to look somewhat more even with the really short layers. For $50, I am very disappointed, and now I have to spend even more money in order to try and get it evened out at my regular hair salon. I have read other reviews saying that the stylists don't listen to their clients, and after this experience I have to agree 100%. read more

Just went to Starz for the first time yesterday. My daughter had an appointment with Shauna for a body wave perm for her birthday. Shauna did an OUTSTANDING job. Her hair looks great and best of all my daughter loves it!!! Shauna was also very patient, talkative and my 13 year old was very comfortable with her.
