What a cute and trendy little spot in downtown. I had a massage and I should have asked for deep tissue but instead went with the therapeutic which was just a relaxing body rub with lotion. Sietske was great. My husband had a deep tissue and it was so good he fell asleep several times during his service. I wish they had more than one massage therapist on at a time bc it would have been nice for us both to get them done at the same time but it is a small place so I get it. If we're in the area we'd absolutely come back for another massage and I think I'd trust them with my hair too. Hubs made an appointment here for me before we moved to the area, so within my first 48 hours here I got to go to the spa for a relaxing massage after moving halfway across the country (good job, hubs!). I was greeted promptly and seated in the small waiting area to the right of the front door. I was offered a beverage but said "No, thank you." The spa was relatively quiet and comfortable. My massage therapist was Regina and she did an excellent job! She was able to provide the firm pressure I prefer, without making me feel like she was beating me up! She even extended the massage because she said I needed it - my back was in bad shape! I appreciated that she took extra time and attention to me while I was there. Before I left I went ahead and scheduled my next appointment! I've now seen Regina at least 3 times and I can say that each time has been as good as the first! She does a great job and I love how relaxed I feel after leaving! This last time I also decided to see about getting a quick bang trim and Theo was able to fit me in. He looked at the photos I showed him and did exactly what I wanted! (Whew!) I'm pretty picky about my bangs but he did them perfectly. When it's time for a full cut, I wouldn't hesitate making an appointment with him. Overall the spa is quaint and peaceful and hubs and I have both really enjoyed their services. They sometimes also offer packages or specials, however even without those, I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to spa in the Brunswick area! read more

Excellent massage with Tracy Taylor. Very professional! Reasonably priced! She is a miracle worker... both hips and my lower back were really bothering me from hiking, to the point that I woke up every night for 4 nights needing to stretch and reposition at 2 am. It was a very unusual massage with stretching, and positioning your legs in certain positions to really get to the problem areas and to get the muscle to really relax... but whatever she calls it- it works!!! It's been 4 days since the massage and no 2am night time stretching needed. We've hiked and I have had no issues at all! The owner was super nice and friendly and the spa had a great location on the Main Street. I will definitely go back if I am in the area! read more

Pura Vida set me appointment for a hair cut and styling, but then cancelled the appointment with no notice literally moments before I arrived. It's not easy for me to coordinate my schedule to make time in the middle of the day to take care of things like this and it was a massive inconvenience. When I asked why my appointment was cancelled they just said that someone else had come in and that I should try back in an hour. Even when I explained that I had set the appointment because my free time is extremely limited, they didn't care and just offered to reset the appointment to a different time. Apparently appointments are for their convenience, not the customers. I've switched to a nearby salon who do a great job and honor their promises to respect their customers' time. I had two very different experiences with Pura Vida, one occurring in March, and one last week. In March, I had a haircut with Theodore Sorrentino. My hair was down to my hips, and I intended to make a cut of almost a foot and a half. Theo was very kind and talented, and I ended up chopping off sixteen inches! He gave me exactly what I wanted: no layers, but not harshly blunt, either; just a slight edge on the front pieces to frame my face. I have a pretty deep side part, and he made sure that my hair was parted exactly where I wanted it before beginning to cut. I raved about Pura Vida to my friends for weeks after that haircut. I was not as pleased this past week. For a theatre production, I had a last minute chop by a friend of a friend, and was looking to get it evened out. My hair was longer on my right side, which was my main issue This time, I was booked with Kristin Nawrocki. I explained the situation to her, and said that where my hair currently sat was actually my ideal shortest length, so I wanted as little off as possible. She told me that based on the way in which my hair was cut, she'd need to either cut off a substantial amount or give me layers, since the scissors that had been used had damaged my hair. I agreed to very slight layers. After she shampooed by hair and brushed it, I re-parted my hair so it sat the way I normally wear it. She began cutting, using clippers and scissors. At one point, she sectioned off a part of my hair in such a way that she grabbed hair on both sides of my part, but because I'm completely ignorant when it comes to hair, I assumed that there was a specific reason that she was doing it. It wasn't until the end of the cut, after she blow-dried my hair, that I realized she had given me a cut as if my hair was parted only slightly off center. I fixed my part, and after seeing my regular part, she started trimming things again to try and match it. Unfortunately, it was too late. The hair on my left side is fine, but on the right there's a whole layer of hair that's 2-3 inches shorter than the rest, which looks choppy and is fans out very strangely. My hair sits an inch or two above my armpit, and these choppy bits are as high as my shoulder To kick it all off, the right side is still longer than the left, which is the reason I scheduled the appointment to begin with. This is the only time in my life that I've truly disliked the results of a haircut. Perhaps part of the onus is on me to have spoken up - part of it was the fact that I wasn't wearing my glasses, and part of it was that I just assumed that there was a certain method to her approach that I wasn't used to. read more

And, lucky us who can snag an appointment with her, Lana's hair cutting and styling talent is as brilliant. You know you can tell you've gotten an amazing haircut when you wake up with day three hair... and it still falls exactly the way you want it to. And, I am not kidding about being lucky to snag an appointment - she's usually booked for a few months in advance, but don't hesitate to call and ask to be on her waiting list.
