October 31/2022: Halloween nite dinner & this place was very quiet. We had an early dinner, so it's kind of expected. Our server "Kora" was extremely nice. She was very polite & delivered solid service. Where the stars ranking fell off is the food. I had the chicken club sandwich with fries. The bacon was extra crispy as I requested. The chicken however was so thin that the tomato was thicker! I could also tell that the veggies on the sandwich were not as fresh as they could have been. The last point were the fries, they were stone cold when they arrived at the table. Our server & Manager we're gracious enough to offer us a complimentary dessert which we accepted. If the location can up it's game on the food, it could easily make the 5-star ranking. read more

So conflicted with how to leave this review! I don't understand how you have to ask for water. Isn't that one of the first things the servers should be bringing? For everyone?? I placed a pickup order today and came in to grab it. When I arrived, the host told me I had to go to the bar to get it. It felt a bit dismissive, especially since I already felt uncomfortable walking through a busy, upscale restaurant in casual clothes just to retrieve my order. In most places, the host usually hands over the pickup order directly, so it caught me off guard. The food is great, but I think the pickup experience could be handled with a little more care for guests who order takeout. read more

Food was not very good. Kids cheese pizza was basically a flatbread glazed with tomato soup and lightly sprinkled with cheap cheese. The sides of the pizza barely had any cheese at all. Tomato soup was meh and served with think slices of mini baguette covered with the same cheap dry cheese. Calamari was mediocre as well. Not horrible but not good either. The service was EXTREMELY slow. Pleasant but soooooooo slow. It took 45mins to get cheese pizza, a bowl of soup and a plate of calamari :( read more

Get the chicken sandwich if you come here, it was amazing. The steak lacked flavour. Their drinks were made well. The ambiance isn't good for a sports bar because their TVs are fuzzy. The service was average-good. I wouldn't return or recommend. read more

Visited on new year's day, so it wasn't too busy Overall rating 3.5 I liked the decor it's open yet cozy I tried the state soda, salt and pepper wings, fish taco and soup dumplings. I was able to try multiple items because they had so many specials and happy hour options. Pros My favorite was the soup dumplings. The ginger sauce it was served with was delicious! The salt and pepper wings were yummy and not breaded which I appreciate. Cons The state soda tasted like soda water with a hint of peach. I wouldn't recommend. I have a new co-op student who joined my department a couple of weeks ago. I tend to be the one who arranges a welcome lunch for new members our team. Since I like food and he is easygoing with food suggestions (I suggested going to Rick's Good Eats last week and he loved the food there that he trusts my food judgment), I gave him a few restaurant ideas. We chose State & Main from the list. I didn't realize that we had a State & Main roughly ten minutes away from our workplace. I saw State & Main in Kitchener. It intrigued me so much that when I saw this location was close by, it seemed perfect. This restaurant has a good combination of dishes, with gluten-free and vegetarian options to accommodate sensitive diets. Yes! We were a small group. I had made a reservation on the restaurant's site, through OpenTable. It worked without a hitch. I drove a colleague and our intern over to the restaurant. There was plenty of parking. We walked in and waited to be seated. It wasn't all that busy on a Monday at noon. Our manager was already there, having driven to the restaurant from home. My intern and I have similar tastes. We both ordered the bison burger. The burger comes with your choice of two sides. I got the jalapeno cheddar mashed potatoes and gravy, and mixed green salad. He got the same mashed potatoes, but opted for sweet potato fries as his second side. My manager got to the spicy tuna poke bowl. He felt bad about gorging on a 18-ounce steak on the weekend and tried to eat better here. I got a Diet Coke. We all got water. Both drinks were in mason jars, which I liked. My intern made the same comment. Our food came pretty fast. Our server was patient with us and super friendly. I loved how everything looked on my plate. I cut my bison burger in half. It was delicious. The bison wasn't gamy. It was juicy and perfectly done. The toppings in this burger were fresh. The bun was soft and toasted where it should be. The jalapeno cheddar mashed potatoes and gravy were amazing! I was wondering what had a subtle spicy kick when I was eating everything. I finally figured out that it was from these mashed potatoes. So good! The cheddar balanced the potatoes and jalapeno magically. The gravy was delicious. I drenched practically everything with it. My mixed green salad was a nice contrast. My intern asked me what the marshmallows were. The goat cheese crumbles did look like miniature marshmallows! My salad had walnuts and a nice dressing mixed in. It was light and complemented my meal nicely. We all enjoyed our meals. The food is yummy. I'd come back again to eat my way through the menu. Went with friends to enjoy a relaxing unwind to a workweek. Quizzed the server about the quality of the steak I was considering, on his reccomend two of us tried steak which was cooked to perfection. Another tried the fish tacos and asked if the tortilla shell could be crisped up a little which came out unbelievablely well. Last order was a noodle bowl which was declared really good. I will definitely recommend this location to others looking for a staff who truly try to please. Fantastic food and a normal restaurant seating environment. read more

The food here has been consistently good and is directly comparable to every other State and Main location I've visited. A+ on following the chain guidelines on that. However, the service has been consistently awful during the pandemic. The staff are pleasant, but it shouldn't take an hour to bring a bottle of wine to tue table. Until management can fix their staffing problems, they're getting a no from me. If you don't have enough staff to serve tables... don't seat them! read more

came here for a lunch one day, as I was asked to be present for a meeting over food. the meeting went well and I think the food had a lot to do with it. we got seated right away, and were greeted by a wonderful and attentive waitress. she took our orders right away without any problems, and continued to top our drinks up until our food came, I personally didn't order an appetizer but I got a Bison Burger for my main course and was seriously not disappointed. it came very quickly to the table and was cooked to perfection, and the fries on the side were absolutely delicious to the point where I almost asked for a side of fries to take on the way home! yum! the waitress was very enjoyable to be around and had great bedside manner, very social and friendly. the atmosphere is very laid back and casual, and they have sports playing on all of the tvs throughout the restaurant. I cant stop thinking about this place and I cant wait to come back. lots of parking at this restaurant, as it shares the same plaza as the loblaws. transit options are the 50 Burnhamthorpe bus and the 112 West Mall bus. seriously cant say enough good things about my visit. read more

Really great spot that... what.. RE-CORKS YOUR WINE BOTTLE? YES, PLEASE! Ok... so the food I personally ordered was not the best part of this place, but it still deserved a 4 star. The decor was great, the menu was great - I just feel like I picked a food item that wasn't "me" per se. They had a divine looking Winter Menu, and I ended up going with their Hollywood (?) style salad after chatting with the waitress and she mentioned it was one of their most popular items on the menu.. and boy was that a mistake. It was incredibly soggy, the flavours didn't compliment each other, was not a fan at all - but maybe I was having some serious FOMO from not getting the truffle pasta on the Winter menu (shame on me) My boyfriend got the Poke Bowl and said he really liked it. Menu said it was spicy... and they were NOT lying - it's got a real good spice. It's got a good vibe, great TV locations, a bit of an older crowd, few kids in the evenings - overall, I liked it. I'm here for the first time with a group from/after work. I'm drinking a 16 oz Mill Street Organic $6.75 after I was told by our server that there were no bar specials. Not! For this dishonesty, I penalized this place ONE star. There are every day 3-6pm State Socials such as SM Draught 16 oz $4.00 or 6 oz House Wine $5.00, Calamari $10 or Fish Taco $4. Otherwise, the service was good as is the ambiance. We snacked on a few appetizers and socialized the afternoon away. The music wasn't too loud but people conversations echoed throughout the dining room because of the high open ceiling. I had a Bison Burger $18.50 with jalapeño cheddar mashed potatoes for dinner. Had lunch there on January 4 and I am convinced it will be my worst meal of 2024. I ordered a French dip. I asked the server how the meat came and she said with a bit of pink. Well I think grey would have been a more appropriate answer. The meat was tough and stringy. It should have come with a side of dental floss. I ate it because I was in a hurry. A decision I and my digestive tract deeply regret. I have to say the server and the manager were largely indifferent to my concerns. My coworker and I went here for lunch and had PHENOMENAL service. The waitress was funny, personable, and very informative. I had the lamb tacos with a creamy tzatziki sauce, a slaw, and a spicy harissa sauce. I also got it with a side salad, and ordered another side for an upcharge. I ordered fries with a nice dill sauce on the side which was delicious. For drinks, I had the muskoka detour which was a refreshing IPA. I wasn't expecting much from the food at State & Main because, generally speaking, chain restaurants in Canada are terrible. (I'm looking directly at you, Kelsey's, Montana's, etc, etc.) Anyway, I figured I should keep an open mind and I'm so glad I did, because the food was surprisingly (and shockingly) tasty. I decided to go with the Main Burger ("two patties, each w/ melted american cheese make up this classic. topped w/ lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle & our own state sauce") and ordered Ginger Cilantro Slaw and Corn Bread on the side. (Being able to choose from a list of side orders is actually a pretty great idea, and one that's quite common in eateries south of the border.) It's a damn good burger. The meat, though a little on the dry side, contains absolutely no fillers and boasts an irresistible crust, while the various toppings uniformly work quite well. The bread was definitely too dense, but that's a minor complaint for what's otherwise a pretty fantastic hamburger. The sides were also a pleasant surprise, with the Slaw quite flavorful and the Corn Bread unexpectedly tasty. read more

Not worth the price. Definitely bland and not enough spicy or seasoning in general. Guess is meant to be that way??? For people who cannot tolerate flavor. Dessert not much to offer. They nailed it!!!! Wow...this was our first time here. I had the French dip beef steak sandwich with the ginger and cilantro slaw and a cup of the soup of the day (Thai red curry chicken), my wife had the autumn seasonal menus item Thai noodle salad and my some had the teriyaki rice bowl. All the food came out really hot (ya!!!! Finally a restaurant that serves their food hot and not just warm!!!). Our waitress was amazing and really helpful being our first time here. The desserts are just the right size and not too sweet. I would definitely recommend this place to other people. I've been waiting to go to this place for a while now as it's only been open for a few months. I had looked it up because I've never heard of the place to see that it's yet another restaurant from out west. We've had plenty of new comers from out west like Joey, Cactus Club, Earls, etc. We arrived a bit before 7pm on a Friday and the place was kind of packed. We were however seated immediately as we were asked for either inside or outside and because the evening was rather pleasant we decided on outdoors. Having walking through the inside along with the place being pretty much at capacity, inside visually and with the background music it seemed rather loud. I was happy to be able to get a peaceful table outside actually. Out the doors we turned left around the corner and then left again basically at the table furthest from the entrance on the Burnhamthorpe side close to the patio exit. It was quiet yet private as we only had one table beside us. We had a good look at the two sided menu and all the sides and choices etc. Our server eventually came and offered some drinks. At this time it's already after 7pm so we sort of missed the first wave of happy hour and the next wouldn't be for another 2 hours (9pm). She did however mention that there were cocktail specials for 7 bucks and showed us on the drink menu. I had said I was in the mood for a beer instead. My wife had ordered a glass of white zinfandel. We had decided to go with the Buffalo wings to start, while my wife ordered the salmon club sandwich with ginger cilantro slaw and jalapeno cheddar cornbread. I went with the grilled cheeseburger with the soup of the day and poutine. What I found kind of different is that you are offered 2 sides instead of just one while some are no extra charge you can choose to upgrade the sides for a nominal extra charge such as what I did. I couldn't help but notice that for whatever reason things for us were moving slow. I mean between sitting, ordering, getting the drinks, ordering food, getting the app, getting our mains it was taking more time than I was expecting or would tend to think it should have taken. The table beside us (the only table) was there before we arrived and had paid and left. Another couple had taken that table after them, ordered, eaten, paid and also left. I couldn't think of anything we had ordered that would really have taken that long. I mean we had wings, a sandwich and a burger. It came to the point that our server actually came up to us and said something of how it was taking rather long for us and would check to see what was going on. Honestly to me that saved the night because if I had to say something I wouldn't have been too happy. Our food did come out and it looked really good. The serving for the sandwich and sides are long plates because the food well it's a pretty big serving. I do have a small handful of places that I keep on a list of burgers that are over 16 dollars... it's like an echelon that if you're charging 16+ I put you into another category all your own. Tonight the grilled cheeseburger was going against the likes of Dymond's DSK and Cactus Club's Feenie burger. I have to say it was really, really good. I mean if the suspense was to make us wait long for our food, mission accomplished. The beauty of this burger is that it's not so large that I have to take things off to be able to bite into it and it's not named after some chef to the point of being overrated. No, this burger is solid in every way from the way it's stacked to the texture of the entire stack, top to bottom. The burger is on grilled French bread as opposed to the other offerings which are on brioche buns which are actually what I prefer as far as burgers go. I'll go out of my way sometimes to get brioche buns or Ace bakery buns instead of using the regular buns when I make burgers. The grilled bread if toasted just right with the bottom layer being 2 melted cheeses up against the burger then the bacon, and fried onions then the fresh veggies are cool and crispy on the top inside layer with another grilled slice of bread to complete the pocket of crunch the grilled bread creates. So the first time experience with this place was that it took long to get everything. I was joking with my wife that we'd probably be still there for the second wave of happy hour and by the time we had paid and left being well into 9pm, it became true. From arriving to leaving and everything in between we were there for a good 2 hours plus. The wait was long, there's no way to sugarcoat that. The food was good and the service was good and pleasant overall. If the kitchen was going to take as long as they were going to take I can't fault our server for that in fact her noticing and mentioning that it was taking long is good, honest and fair. Because the wait was borderline unacceptable for now I'll give them a 3. I think we'll return still hoping it will be better next time. read more

Showed up here on a snowy day, early afternoon, and there was a decent amount of business.. I wanted to just grab some comforrt food and a beer and see what the place was like.. Sat at the bar, greeted immediately, checked out the food & beers.. Beers were a good selection, some of their own, and a few that looked good from other breweries whose names I recognized.. Food menu was pretty solid - Asian inspired? There were a couple words I didn't recognize -- like a wing flavour that started with G. Anyway, ordered a house red [beer], and some takeout -- the seafoody pasta tasted great but the portion was just ok; maybe it was because I did takeout? But the Main Burger we also got was good -- and I like that you get 2 sides with it. I think I'd like to try the beef dip next time though.. read more

Poor service and understanding of seniors! Refused to serve a senior today but would take his money for a food order. The senior nodded off while his son was taking a business call....no drinks had been served nor had he previous to waking in the door, seniors home delivered him to the restaurant. Solid spot! Great food, Great deal, Great looking/ Friendly Bartenders. It's not quite 5 star but it's damn close. For the deals I recommend Wednesday for Half priced Wings (wings are not massive but the quality of the meat is very good) or Thursday for half price Wine. Food: I usually do either the Bison Burger or West Coast Chop Salad for my go2s, although the entire menu is excellent and diverse. Garlic jalapeño mash is the most delicious side. Friendly staff and accommodated big groups (PRE-COVID)

I really wanted to like this place and give it a good review but they absolutely destroyed my hamburger and I just hated it, I actually couldn't even finish it. Ok so where do I start? We ordered the Mac & Cheese with Jalapeño and it was good, lots of cheese and heat with every bite, that's really the only reason they are getting two stars, the restaurant wasn't even full and we had three servers who couldn't figure out my drink order so the manager had to pour the beer. I looked at the burgers and I love burgers that is my thing so when you ruin a good burger and your suppose to be a comfort food / bar you should really know how to make a good burger. First off the patty was way over cooked and small, I got the grilled cheese bun however it was just some processed cheese on a piece of white bread, not melted or grilled, just there it was horrible. I had two bites and I couldn't eat anymore I returned it and just was completely turned off by the place. I would t waste your money here it's a shame because the set up is great no matter where you sit you have clear views of the games, but that's it. Maybe they should retrain or get new staff for the kitchen. read more

Good atmosphere, nice patio. The food isn't anything too exciting. The menu has a lot of options, it can probably satisfy whatever you are in the mood for. Both dishes we ordered were in lacking flavour (Gogi Tacos and Teriyaki Bowl). It's a decent local spot if you're looking for a weekly special. I will go back to give it another shot! Everytime I go in, I have the best servers, so attentive and helpful and friendly :) I've been in a handful of times and I must say, I always leave happy. The chicken tenders are delicious - the corn bread is beyond yummy. The bison burger- so incredible and the shrimp and truffle pasta was well balanced and not too heavy. Meh. Decent food, but not worth the prices. Have great drink specials, I suspect because their regular overpriced menu needs some way to pull in customers. Great decor and feeling in the place and this is my problem. There are better places with great decor and service that charge the same for better food, and places not as nice that serve same, or better, food for less price. Either way you like it, there is a better choice nearby. I would wait on going here until they figure out which direction they are going and change accordingly. read more

Disappointing. Group of friends and I have been going there since it opened, but it's gone downhill. Our server last night - once we broke her away from a deep conversation with 2 other servers - was overly familiar and flippant. (Two other servers across the room were also in deep conversation. No one appeared to be working). We ordered Bang Bang Shrimp - good, Sweet Potato Fries - way overcooked. We had two orders of fish tacos that went back. The fish - when located - was chewy, cardboard tasting, battered microblobs that must have been in the fridge for days. The servers response to our dissatisfaction was "super!" what else would you like? No apology. Nothing. Ordered chicken teriyaki bowl that was equally unimpressive. Came here for a birthday dinner. Service was slow, although that's understandable because it's a day before New Year's Eve but the management should know to shift more then 4 servers for a 60+ seat restaurant. Ordered the noodle bowl. Broth was very bland, not a lot of chicken and shrimp and there wasn't much chili oil it seems at was slightly above mild. Other people at the table said their food was basic and one's burger and fries were cold. The server was good about bringing another but we didn't bother because it would've taken way too long, which shows given how it took 10 minutes to get a refill of water. I don't blame the server, she was good about everything, but service management and the food was awful especially when every item was over $13. Beer and wine are also way too expensive for common sub-$16 bottles. The owner needs to fix their set-up because this place is clearly just getting by from happy hour patrons. Won't be coming back and I absolutely won't be recommending this place to anyone in Etobicoke. There are plenty of decent restaurants well worth the money in the Kipling Station area that are cheaper then this heap. Give them your business instead. read more

Been a customer here for awhile and I must say it's a decent place for food and a drink as far as typical suburban bars go. The happy hour liquor prices are also very decent and allow one to enjoy a few, perhaps even tie one on, without going over a hundred bucks. The drawback is that in the summer this place isn't very busy and as such the atmosphere leaves something to be desired. In the fall and winter it picks up but I can't help but feel this place has a post office/sausage factory element to it making it less than ideal if you're looking to scope out the fairer sex. What women do go here are either the washed up Etobicoke suburban type or those that sit as far away from the bar and main entrance as possible so you're guaranteed to never see them unless on your way to the can. Men don't go to bars to look at other guys unless it's a gay establishment so keep your expectations low in that regard. Otherwise a decent choice for a bite to eat and a beer for this neighbourhood. (Well perhaps the only respectable choice unless you put the Red Cardinal in the same category) read more

More than anything, this place is a great addition to the area. I've been here a few times for lunch and/or drinks with clients and coworkers so it's a great local somewhat low-key place. I tried their fish tacos but I was not a fan at all. Joeys is way better! Next, I got the chicken gyoza which I really liked. Most recently I tried the burrito bowl because I couldn't decide on anything else. You're better off going next door to Bar Burrito - slightly cheaper but much better. Hopefully I enjoy whatever I order next time. Service has always been fine. The parking lot is extremely small to cater to a restaurant like this but so far I haven't had any issues myself read more
