I stopped by The Hole In The Wall recently and honestly, it turned out to be one of those places that just feels right from the moment you walk in. The atmosphere is relaxed and a bit cozy without trying too hard, which I really appreciated. The food was surprisingly good -- everything felt fresh and well thought out, not overly complicated but definitely satisfying. You can tell they care about quality and consistency. Service was friendly and easygoing, not rushed at all, which made the whole experience even better. Great watering hole in the Junction! I thought I'd post my pics here because I didn't see any of the basement, which is odd but checking the map it is the same spot on Dundas west. I wasn't even aware of the upstairs restaurant as seen in all the many Yelp pics, but check out my pics of the basement. I was there for a friends's birthday party bash so we had the whole basement to have fun in without the public there. Really awesome service from the bar staff there, nice little stage for the DJ, and booths along the side made it perfect for that event. If you go to the restaurant, maybe check if the basement is open for business as part of the establishment. read more

Very cute and small bar with lively atmosphere. We came here at 10pm on a Friday night and it was packed. They have an extensive drink menu from beer, wine to cocktails and liquor shots. Food menu mostly includes shareable options, like fries, pizza, poutine, calamari, etc. Perfect for a night out with friends. The portions are smaller than what we expected though. Just moved to the Junction and was looking for a good restaurant. I went to a few high brow joints but turns out that their food paled in comparison to The Hole in the Wall. What a hidden gem. Amazing local beers, a fantastic wine list, and great service. Owned by two brothers who also own the restaurant next door that shares the same kitchen. Bake their own bread, make their own pate, I can't over-estimate what a great place this is. Plus the decor is amazing....the restaurant appears to have been converted from a laneway into a restaurant which is why it is set back from the street a ways. Don't miss it. read more

This place is all the vibes. The interior is small, but cute. The food is amazing. HIGHLY recommend trying the chicken wings, really different from any other wings you've tried. We can't wait to visit the actual Hole in the Wall bar once we can drink and eat inside... but we're so happy to have discovered Botham's in the meantime for take-home DONUTS and PIZZA! Donuts: fresh and homemade, interesting icings aren't too sweet. I've especially love the filled ones, generous, busting with real fruit or curd... a favorite was a lemon iced one with lemon curd. Pizza: Incredible dough, dark sourdough. Crust so good you're tempted to put butter / garlic butter on them. Favorites: the Sausage and Smoked Provolone pizza - the sausage is so flavorful. I usually don't love white pizzas, but this one's not dry or boring. The Bacon pizza - I love anything ham and pineapple, so.... The bacon on this one is almost too smoky for me but if there's a generous helping of pineapple and basil, it works. From Monday to Wednesday, there's a take-out deal on pizzas - 2 for $25 (a surcharge for a couple varieties). That's an incredible deal for these pies. Soon after The Junction became our home, Botham's became a steady presence in our lives. While lockdown restrictions limit their ability to deliver on their full potential, we can say for certain that they've "made the pivot" and are killing it nonetheless. The Sunday roast beef special is absolutely to-die-for. Generous servings of succulent, tender medium-rare roast beef accompanied by a killer Yorkshire pudding, insanely delicious roasted potatoes, three kinds of roasted veggies and an absolutely off-the-charts wine gravy (and always a surprise dessert) make this a steal of a deal at $60 (+HST). It's worth noting that the roasted potatoes were some of the best we've EVER had. They had this insanely crispy texture to them that was oh so very addictive. We're considering ordering just the potatoes and eating a whole tray. This has us very curious about their Saturday fire roasted chicken dinner for $45. We've not had it yet, but we're gonna - and we know it's gonna be great! Their wood-fired sourdough crust pizzas are some of the best we've had in Toronto. Great sauce, high quality toppings and a perfectly fired sourdough crust keep us coming back for more. And the two for $25 special Mondays - Wednesdays always makes us feel like we've committed theft whenever we take those home! Because we're trying to control ourselves these days we always have leftover pizza for breakfast, and it's equally delicious the next day (either at room temperature or gently warmed over). The pepperoni pizza has superb meat and cheese. Their Arugula and Cherry Tomato pizza with sundried tomatoes is amazingly fresh tasting and perfect for a Spring/Summer mid-day meal. On top of these hot dinner options they have a well stocked, creatively curated and reasonably priced market. We've tried a number of the products and everything has been first rate. Some highlights include: pre-prepared frozen pizza that's ready to eat after 15 minutes in a 450F oven - way better than anything we've gotten from a grocery market; superb beef broth; delicious hickory smoked BBQ sauce - we love it on chicken and ribs ; potted cheese (OMG!!) - great on a bagel; and, frozen cookie dough (OMG x 2!). Throw in a small but really well thought out bottle shop - and delicious pre-mixed cocktails (get the Negroni - trust us on this one) - and you have everything you need to help lift the lockdown blues. Oh, we just about forgot: to top it all off they make absolutely first rate, wood-fired sourdough bread, and scrumpdillyicious baked goodies like doughnuts (including doughnut holes!) and cinnamon buns. Gosh do I love this place. The food is outstanding, the ambiance spot-on. Candles in little nooks in the brick wall, high ceilings with huge wrought iron chandeliers, cozy booths, a long bar staffed by knowledgeable, friendly staff always up to recommend a tasty libation. I'm so glad they bought and opened up the larger space next door (Botham's) because the only down-side of THITW was that it is pretty much literally that - and you often couldn't get a spot right away on any given evening during the dinner rush (understandable!) . Pre-COVID, live music was wonderful and you were always surprised how many musicians they could fit on that tiny back stage! Botham's (attached/next door) has a wood-fire oven for delish pizzas, takeaway loaves and Montreal-style bagels, and is a gorgeous place to sit for dinner (spacious, lots of cozy booths). If just for the ambience I think this is a great place. So narrow that you have to walk sideways to get past the bar. Mismatched furniture and boxes of single malt on the walls. The food was good, if not cheap; kind of an Englishness to it. The drink selection is very good. The service was good but when it got busy my beer got lost. $1 oyster Tuesdays - say no more! This is a cool little place that's very long and narrow inside. The place just filled up as I arrived around 630p. Luckily, they found a couple of spots at the bar for us after a few minutes. Probably not a good place for big groups given these circumstances. They have a great selection of craft beer on tap. Their oysters were good and I also enjoyed the duck wings! Roasted Cauliflower $11 - These were okay, has a curry flavor to them. Buffalo Duck Wings $14 - These are a must have! The Hole in the Wall is a venue in The Junction like no other. First of all, it has a very easy to miss and very unique entranceway which I believe is perfectly synonymous with the venue's name. When you enter you are greeted by a long and narrow space adorned with unique décor which goes quite some way in giving the place its character, along with the dim lighting, which also provides a fitting vibe and ambiance to a venue with such a layout. I was so intrigued by my impression of the venue the 1st couple of times I visited (several years ago) that I didn't even consider it to be a place to eat - that was also due to my concentration on their beer selection, which has always been quite good every time I've been. There's a bar in the venue's midsection and they have both booth seating and chairs and tables. It's also a live music venue with a corner stage in the back. I very recently made my 1st visit since my initial 2 visits years ago; again I was with 2 friends for drinks. I hope to order food the next time I go; as far as I can recall, the service for drinks has always been fairly prompt. If you're in the area, haven't been and want to check out a quirky, small space give Hole in the Wall a try - and you might want to have the address handy in case you miss that entrance. read more

Came here for buck-a-shuck oysters on (Tuesdays from 5-10pm). Good value, but understandably, the oysters were pretty small. Be prepared to wait awhile for the oysters. We also ordered the Roasted Cauliflower which was tasty, but a bit expensive for what it was. They had daily specials on the wall and a large list of alcoholic beverages making it a great place to hang out after work. Helps that parking outside is free after 4pm too! Definitely lives up to it's name as it's a bit easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. Hipster vibe complete with tasteful decorations and live music on some nights. It's a bar. At the end of the day that's really all you can expect. it's got a long narrow atmosphere, and it's pretty hip so there's that right? The drinks are drinks. And it's a fine place to spend an evening. If you're nearby, it's worth popping into, but if you are looking for something to drag you up to this part of the city, maybe there are other places instead? but at the end of the day, this is the hole in the wall. Stumbled upon this place for a couple drinks during a day out exploring the Junction. There were many options to choose from. The staff were all very friendly and kind. I loved the atmosphere of this spot. It felt very comfortable and cozy. We tried the Willibald Strawberry Rhubarb hard seltzer, the Collective Arts Raspberry Orange Hard Seltzer, and the Slake Hatch Pale Ale. Everything was great. For its inconspicuous location, this pub is certainly a wonderful treat once you're inside. Of course as the name suggests, a hole in the wall. A good place to for a drink or two and some food. They have a pretty extensive drink/beer menu. Their specials located on the chalk board at the front are pretty cheap - saw lots of options for under $7. We ordered for the table - duck wings (they were pretty big) and the curried slaw with smoked chicken. I didn't try the duck wings so I can't comment on that but my friends licked the bones clean so it must have been good. I did enjoy the curreied slaw and smoked chicken - it's a cold chicken dish that really light and flavourful and the slaw gives it a nice crunch. It's actually a fair amount of food - and there are actually pieces of chicken in here! This place has an old school feel - it's got that large vintage looking chandeliers, low lighting, dark furniture. I'm sure this would be a bar where everyone would know your name. It also does brunch - which by the other reviewers seem to be a big hit. I'd definitely come back here to try the brunch if I was in the area. read more

After coming here, I was definitely craving some more calamari and pot de creme. Unfortunately when I came back it wasn't quite as good. Actually, it was pretty bad. The calamari wasn't fried long enough, so it was soggy and chewy rather than crispy. Each bite taken was accompanied by disappointment, and I'm not the one to hide my expressions, so one my friends thought it was hilarious. The pot de creme was alright, the flavour was the same but it had a grainy texture, like the sugar didn't quite fully dissolve. My friends got the cheesecake, which came with some burnt dulce de leche resembling clump on top, and the cheese and artichoke dip, which was more like cheese and grease dip. What made it worse was the service. Oh my god, the service. There was one waiter and one buser, and we sat at the entrance. The waiter was too busy chatting with people around the bar that it was impossible to get any service. We had to wave him down for our bill via charades, then waited for the machine. I usually don't mind waiting but we waited just about over an hour to pay our bill, finally escaping the night of disappointment. read more

Not sure if I'd call it a dive bar but this is definitely a hidden gem in the junction . Eclectic and cozy decor. Food is okay. Don't order the cauliflower. Great wine and beer list. Staff are friendly. On sat evenings (?) there is a live band... so it's quite loud if you're trying to talk to a friend. Good place to chill though! They have buck or shuck oysters during the weekday. I'd recommend coming here for a date and being seated away from the live band or coming back during the week for awesome priced oysters ;) I keep coming back .. I'll just say up front that we were tourists in Toronto, we are not locals. When we travel we like to eat at local places not fast food or "tourist vacuums". So we listened to yelpers and headed towards this place because of the good reviews. While the two appetizers we got were REALLY good, I have to give 3 stars. I suppose it's my own fault for not reading reviews closely, but this is not what I was expecting. It is a tiny bar with snacks. It is not a restaurant type bar, so be warned. We went in around 4 on a Saturday and it was just kind of awkward. It is literally a hole in the wall place and when we walked in we really felt out of place. We tried some food anyway but kind of just wanted to get out of there. Bottom line is this place seems to be for locals and I don't recommend it at all for tourists. read more
