Stopped in for lunch after a Costco run and as usual, was not disappointed with the state and main group... a comfortable and lively atmosphere followed by excellent service and delicious food... My wife and I did not go past the appetizers but my son had a Delicious chicken burger with fries and my wife and I split the pretzel sticks, the brussels sprouts, the soup dumplings and my favorite, the tuna tartare! Washed down with a couple cold pints of beer it was the perfect lunch for a hectic day! read more

It's a bit more varied than bar food, but the fish tacos that I got were just okay. There were only 2 tacos that came with the dish and your choice of sides. I chose the sweet potato fries and the chipotle sauce. Those fries were pretty good but it's just around average. The fish in the tacos did taste good however. It was cooked in a way that it tasted more like pork, and as a vegetarian, it's a nice change for my tastebuds. The toppings on the taco didn't help much with the taste though. They were average fish tacos. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice, especially for a place in london (it felt more like a Toronto restaurant). Decided to stop in for their "Happy Hour". Prices very reasonable for a quick drink and snack. I chose the vodka soda for a drink and tried their two taco choices a fish taco and a pork taco. Both were very tasty. For two tacos and a beverage it cost just over $10 + tip. Service was good and atmosphere was good. Kind of a modern sports bar/restaurant. I had family visiting today from out of town, and they wanted to have dinner at a nice sit down restaurant, and I suggested State and Main because I hadn't been here yet. I had called about a couple hours ahead to make reservations, and called again because I had two more people coming. My family arrived before we did and there was just a slight issue with regards to the seating because of my 90 year old grandmother, but that was sorted out by the time I got there. Small hiccup. The menu had a variety of different options, and I ended up getting the chicken club wrap. With the sandwiches and wraps you have an option of two sides, which I got the caesar salad and the jalapeño cornbread. Our meals all arrived in due time and all at once, which was amazing because I don't like having to wait for my meal or wait for someone else's before we could eat. The chicken wrap was tasty, so was the salad, a bit on the salty side, but good nonetheless. My mom had the jalapeño mac & cheese with cajun chicken, she absolutely loved it. There was enough for all of us to take home too. The servers were very attentive, making sure we always had our drinks full, and asking if there was anything else we needed, and after our meals if we wanted some coffee, tea or some dessert. The portions were very large, so I had no room for dessert, but next time I will certainly try. Dropped in with family to celebrate a birthday. Sat out in the patio to enjoy the weather, and since no one else was around, we could be a bit noisy . The waitress looked a bit apprehensive for some reason or the other (but totally mellowed out by the time we were ready to leave ) We ordered the bang bang shrimp, and as luck would have it, it was the last day for 2for1 appetizer Tuesdays. Since we had planned to get 2 orders, we ended up with 4 plates. Yumm! Daughter had the pasta with meatballs, son had the deluxe burger, wife had the Steak and Main Steak and I had a rack of ribs. Food was succulent and tasty, though the ribs were a bit dry. Excellent potions. A great place to have a quiet meal or a celebration. I came here for the first time expecting it to have the typical choices at any other chain restaurant, but was happily surprised. I got to try the Grilled Chicken Club, which is the best chicken club I've had to date. They give you a juicy slab of chicken that's packed with flavour (melded together with avocado, melted cheese and bacon), and sandwiched between two glossy halves of a brioche bun. My indecisive side was thrilled that I got to choose two sides to come with my burger. Their jalapeno cheddar mashed potatoes are divine --no gravy needed. I can't wait to come back to sample the rest of their comprehensive menu including burgers, bowls, pasta, meat & seafood mains, and desserts. read more

After hearing good things about State and Main I finally got a chance to check it out. I forgot to take pictures of my food but rest assured it was amazing. I had the Sunshine State to drink which tasted like the beach in the summertime. It was peachy and pineappley and delicious (it was also a slushie!). For appetizers we ordered the bang bang shrimp. They were phenomenal. I really enjoyed the deep fried texture with spicy mayo (which used to be my favourite sauce, I will explain why shortly). We also had the Dragon Boat Lettuce Wraps, FYI these are not peanut free, they were good and the romaine was a heartier lettuce so you weren't dropping the filling. I probably would try something different next time, these didn't blow me away. For my main course I chose the chicken club wrap and TWO YES TWO SIDES! The avocado in the wrap was different but awesome since I rely on restaurants who know what a ripe avocado is for my fix. For my sides I opted for the Caesar salad and fries. The highlight of my entire meal was the dill dip that came with the fries which is now my new fave sauce. I cannot express how delicious this and their slightly dill seasoned fries were. I'm still thinking about it. They seriously need to bottle it for sale. I will definitely be back! Hopefully for brunch because the banana bread French toast sound too good to miss. This just opened up near the tanning studio I go to in London so naturally I had to come here for lunch after tanning. Also, I was craving their jalapeno mac and cheese and ice cream sandwich after looking at their photos. The jalapeno mac & cheese was super tasty and everything mac and cheese should be. The jalapenos really added some spice to it and I love jalapeno anything! The panko bread crumbs gave it texture which really balanced the dish out. The only thing I wish it was more of was the cheesiness. It was very creamy, but not cheesy enough (for me, anyways!). Then again, I'm the type of girl that thinks triple cheese pizza should be the standard amount of cheese. I got a Caesar with gin, in place of vodka. They have a $5 Caesar drink special on Fridays. It was great for a basic Caesar with just the right amount of spiciness to it. No crazy garnishes or anything- just a super simple run-of-the-mill Caesar. Unfortunately, I did not have time to try the ice cream sandwich because I had an appointment after but you can bet I will be back, hopefully soon! read more

It turned out to be more of a sports bar than restaurant, which I wasn't really expecting. --- Food --- The food is good, definitely above average for similar places like Jack Astor's. --- Service --- Its great. The staff are amazingly helpful and polite. Probably the reason it's a 4 star rating. --- Overall --- I enjoyed it, not sure I would go again simply based on location as it is quite out of the way for me. I absolutely love State and Main! This is my to-go restaurant in London :) The menu is very diverse- they have butter chicken (what I live for), chicken tenders, burgers, soups, tacos, anything you can ask for. The servers are always attentive and polite. The restaurant itself is beautiful and they have lots of seating so you don't have to wait an hour to get seated on a Saturday night. You need to try State and Main if you haven't tried it before! :) I highly recommend it! P.S. the desserts are amazing, cheap, and the portions are huge! read more

It was fine but I wouldn't go out of my way to make a return visit. Full menu at the bar. Other seating options include high tables, banquettes and tables. The outside décor is Standard Modern Boring, but the inside is fine. There's an ape hanging in front of the washrooms. The whole place is wheelchair accessible. Free parking. They have different drink specials every day of the week. I wouldn't suggest ordering a cocktail unless it's on special because they are so small. A margarita in a tiny glass filled with ice is $8, out of which there are four sips, tops. I found myself longingly looking at the LCBO in the same plaza; would have liked to have zipped out to whip up my own libation, but I believe that's frowned upon... They offer gluten-free beer. Lots of craft beer selections. The menu is a reasonable size, with options for all. You'll have more trouble narrowing down your choices than finding something to eat, no matter what your allergies/preferences/restrictions. My companion ordered the bison burger. Plus one point for taste, minus one for the cold fries that accompanied it. They brought out hot fries, but he was mostly done the burger at that point. My thai salad was fine; nothing special. Service was okay, although we had to wait a bit to place the order because the bartender was busy filling drink orders. He was great with my allergies, and even brought out the ingredients binder. Good lunch destination in the new Sobey's plaza. The inside has a Moxie's feel to it with a few random decor choices: bondage monkey hanging from the ceiling...i'm looking at you. But there was a cute, if small, patio on the east side of the dining room that featured some picnic tables and a few umbrella covered cafe tables. Lots of pretty planter pots as well. For being there at not a peak time (weekday mid afternoon) the place was busy. And either understaffed, or staff poorly allocated. One waitress looked like she couldn't run fast enough back and forth from the kitchen, while others seemed to be milling about. Consequently both the taking of orders and receiving of orders took forever. But...once it got there, it was amazeballs. I got the gyoza. Pan fried as they should be. Nice soy based dipping sauce. And the tomato soup with cheese croutons. Soup was great. Too many croutons. They provided 8 french baguette slices with melted mozzarella on the top. 4 would have been plenty. There's lots to choose from menu-wise and a couple of dishes that intrigued me enough to go back again. read more

I had dinner here the other night and was surprised because I don't normally have high expectations for a chain. I think they actually did a decent job on some ethnic interpretations as well. When I saw "soup dumplings" on the menu it instantly gave me a craving. Sure it wasn't authentic and a Chinese soup spoon, vinegar and ginger would have been nice. But how they added a ginger vinaigrette hit the flavours of Xiao Long Bao to satisfy the craving. Had the butter chicken for the main and was happy that it had the right flavours but could of used more spice for my liking. My wife swears by the french dip sandwich and I have to say I was surprised. The boys at State and Main corporate are going for a more upscale look in their restaurant, and think that pitchers on tables look trashy. I guess they have to appeal to the general NW London demography, a lot of bourgeoisie snobs are known to roam the area. We went to State and Main with my office for lunch one afternoon. I loved the look and feel of this restaurant. Very unique for London. Classy yet a bit casual at the same time. We sat near the bar area at a large table. There were hooks under the table for your coat or purse which was handy. I ordered the California Cob salad. The bacon was a bit hard at times and it could have used a lot more greens, but it was fairly decent. The fish and chips smelled very good. A coworker got one of the flatbreads and it looked amazing. The food was presented really nicely and I didnt hear any complaints. I'd like to come here for some apps, I've had the bang bang shrimp at another location and it is SO good! read more

I had the pleasure of trying this place on Saturday for lunch. It is fairly new, opened just two weeks ago. We were greeted by a very friendly host and seated. The decor looks modern and chic, there are a lot of tvs. I counted about 10, so it seems like a great place to watch sports. This would be a great place to have ufc nights! I ordered the saigon sub and the chorizo flatbread. Both delicious. If I had room I would have tried the stick cinnamon buns. My boyfriend had the pulled pork sandwich but he said the bbq sauce was too spicy for him. The pulled pork was very soft and tender though. read more

I would like to start off that our waitress here was amazing. She was super attentive and I could only hope t have another waitress like her again. Unfortunately, the food all tasted mediocre and for the prices they were charging, it wasn't worth it. The eggs Benedict was ok but eggs were over poached, leaving me a little sad that the eggs didn't have the velvety runny yolk texture I desired. My husband said his grilled cheeseburger lacked the juicy beef patty as they had made the burger over done. I was pleasantly surprised with my first visit to Steak and Main. It is a fairly large space with a contemporary yet old school and warm vibe. They have a decent size bar with comfortable stools and an equally impressively large bar area. Didn't venture over to the dining side, but it also looked comfy. I stopped in for a beer and a couple of appetizers. Their tap selection is respectable, and they even feature their own draught brewed in Alberta (I believe it's Alberta). I tested their blonde beer and it was actually pretty good, and something I'd try again. I also had one of the flatbreads, which came with a good amount of toppings and tasted really good. I also tried the calamari, which was tasty and the portion plentiful. This place is definitely a welcome addition to London, and hopefully they'll find a spot for a location closer to Masonville! read more

Excellent new restaurant in London. I have been for dinner and brunch and had a great experience both times. The ambience and decor is great, the service was excellent and the food was delicious. Definitely make a reservation as it gets very busy at times. I had the bison burger which was great but i tried the Saigon Sub as well and it was amazing. Their dill dipping sauce for the fries was a pleasant surprise and I would go back just for that. The brunch menu is a tad limited but the food was great. Good drink prices too with daily specials. I would go back for sure to try some other menu items. It's nice to have a good restaurant at that end of the city as well so that's a plus read more

On my first visit here, I arrived with two friends and waiting on a third. We had made reservations for 6pm and were seated right away. The restaurant was rather busy when we arrived our server came over to let us know the drink specials and she gave us a "moment" (15 minutes) to collect our drink orders. We ordered our drinks just a couple minutes prior to my third friend arriving. 2 ice teas, 1 water. We didn't get those drinks for about 15 more minutes. When our drinks arrived she took our third friends drink order (another ice tea) and our food orders. By this time the restaurant had died down considerably. Two friends split an appetizer, the other got fish tacos and I ordered the teriyaki rice bowl. My friend didn't get her drink until our food arrived 35 minutes and had not gotten one refill for any of our drinks. My friends enjoyed their food but said it wasn't anything amazing but also not horrible. My Chicken Teriyaki Rice bowl was okay. The Chicken didn't taste very well cooked and the dish overall was kind of bland. Overall the experience was okay, I would like to go back to try their brunch menu as it looked very good. The food was great! Drinks, decent! I enjoyed the fettuccini and meatballs which is a unique mixup from the original fettuccini and Alfredo custom usually on other menu's at similar restaurants. This was a good use of parsley and other natural herbs in the meatballs and sauce. Drinks were good, they have an excellent Ceaser at an excellent price but it's not all that strong. Good draught beer selection but my White Russian did not come with a cherry which is disappointing. Look forward to returning in the future. read more

Did a day early mothers day, on Sat May 13. My wife, son and I. I had the strip loin, with French Onion App, and the Dirt Pie desert. All were good. My wife had the Fett and Meatballs finished most of it, our son had the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. All meals were more than adequate. The server did an excellent job. The bill for 3 adults was 107.00. Reasonable prices. The only reason that this is not a 5 star, is that while my steak flavour was great, I ordered rare, got mid rare. I accepted it as this was a thin 10 oz strip, but still not my temp. That was my only issue. Ambiance was nice, all the staff friendly. We will dine here again. On purpose. read more

The food is average and feels very similar to most of the other chain restaurants in the area. We had a party of 5 and most said they enjoyed their meals. My main problem was the lack of family seating, specifically child seating. We went with a 1yr old and were told that they do not have high chairs, which was a first for me. The waitress provided us with a booster seat which we had to strap to a chair ourselves (while 2 waitresses watched as my wife crawled around on the floor buckling the straps). On top of this they did not have an actual kids menu, you have to ask what's available and they will tell you. Not sure how they will compete in a very family friendly industry and area of town. Unless it's my mistake and I missed the sign that they don't want kids in there.... We will not be back. read more
