So I've gotta say, State Line looks really sketch. But it's legit! On our way from Baltimore to Philadelphia, my friend's partner asked us to stop there and pick up some drinks. Apparently alcohol regulations in Pennsylvania are meh, so getting alcohol out of state is always preferred. We pulled up to State Line and it looked pretty rough. But we went in and it turned out to be amazing! Such a good selection, and like others have said, it goes on forever! My friend spent time picking out wine and I immediately zeroed in on the beer. There's a little bar in the back and the guy working helped me orient myself. I ended up buying a bunch of local sours from Maryland and Delaware breweries. They also had a special of 20 percent off bottles of wine that are $20 or more for the month of August, so my friend got a great bargain on her purchase. Everyone is also really nice here! So don't judge a book by its cover. I will definitely swing by here again next time I'm in Maryland. read more

Excellent selection of liquors, beers, wine, canned cocktails and hard seltzers. My friend and I were spoiled for choice and spent a long time trying to narrow down what we wanted to buy, but the employees were really attentive and helpful in highlighting selections and helping us find specific things. I especially love their option to do mix and match 6 packs where you can pretty much open any box of beer/canned cocktails/seltzers and grab cans as you go to make custom selections. This was a huge bonus because of how much variety there is. I walked away with a custom six pack of various hard seltzers and canned cocktails and it was an excellent way to be able to sample a number of brands to see what I liked. The checkout line was very fast and efficient and the cashier was polite. I have a member account which gave me a discount, but my friend didn't and the cashier let her use my account to save some money. I thought this was great customer service, and definitely plan to go back whenever I'm back in the area. read more

State line Liquors is a pretty cool store. I've generally just come here for my beer needs but their selection of wine and liquor seems fairly large. When it comes to beer they have quite the selection. Multiple cold cases of beer, racks and shelves of different varieties, specialties, and one offs. If you love beer you owe yourself to come here and check it out. Recently when I was in, they had put a growler station in the back. This may have been up for a while or here since I first came here, but it's the first time I have noticed it. Their prices aren't too bad either. The nicest thing is that they sell 32oz growlers, which is awesome when you don't want to or can't finish off a 64oz. The down side is that you have to use their growlers. They also have a discount card that works on bottles! read more

This place is so great, I had to come all the way back from Germany to revisit it! The selection of craft beer bottles is great, but that's not where State Line really shines. Their beers on draft (for growler refills) are amazing! I mean they are really the best I've ever seen, with probably around 10-15 beers available for you to top yourself up on. And they rotate them frequently as well and will give you free tastes of their offerings. The staff knows what's up and will recommend you something that fits your taste. The only downside to this whole deal is that it's pricy but that's basically a given when you're dealing with craft beer. A must for the beer lover in Newark! read more

THE BEER LOVER'S MECCA! From the outside, it looks like any of the other drab, nondescript liquor stores that dot the streets of Elkton, but inside is a veritable cave of wonders, an astoundingly enormous selection of beers that boggles the brain upon first entry. An very good selection of wine, glassware, & liquor too but to be honest I've only given a couple of glances towards the rest of the store. My eyes are trained on the Dieu du Ciel, Unibroue, La Chouffe, and that crazy Mikkeller civet cat-shat coffee bean Imperial stout I saw a while back, as well as so many other bottles bearing lables I've never even heard of before! The staff is very knowledgeable and affable, good ole folk who happen to know a lot about beer and will share your enthusiasm. It would behoove you to sign up for their club card (free) for discounts, and invitations to special tasting events, which they have every so often. This place. Man oh Man this place. We were in Wilmington, DE visiting some family and my guy's step-mom, whom adopted bourbon as she became familiar that it was one of the only ways to keep our attention, suggested we take a road trip to this place because she knew the family that owns it. We pulled up to a little building, all alone. I was a bit hesitant, but in our experience whiskey-hunting, sometimes the older, more run-down places are the most successful trips we have... and boy do I swallow my initial impressions because this place delivers. We walked in on a mission for whiskey - we found shelves of interesting things: quinoa whiskey to rarer stuff that is hard to get your hands on. They do a few barrels for their stock - we picked up a Four Roses Single Barrel that they selected to finish for their store - (which we got to taste before buying!). We found a few more bottled to bring home - and while we didnt have time to pursue the wine or beer, both selections on hand looks robust. We met a few of the staff members and two of the guys that partner-own this place... both have different areas of expertise (one beer and hard-liquor, the other wine) - and were able to chat both up and immediately knew how knowledgeable they were. When we went to check out, prices were on point with the deals we are getting in other states/places - so definitely think this place is an absolutely gem! I was in this place the other day for a box of Lager and a fifth of bourbon. The guy next to me called his friend to ask for a snapshot review of Fighting Cock bourbon. "You're from Virginia," he said, "you know about this stuff." The woman in front of me on line as I was checking out was wearing OR scrubs and buying a twelver of MGD 64 and two packs of Marlboro Ultra Light 100s (no doubt to sip through a straw and smoke through a holder). She had one of the guys at the counter carry her beer out to the car for her. Another oldster in camouflage overalls was telling a stranger about the "great" combination of Beck's beer and Yellow Tail zinfandel. Usually when you go to a place where you can buy a non-skunked bottle of Gouden Draak, the clientele are insufferable and the staff are worse. Even though I don't think I'll ever require a Belgian ale that tastes like birthday cake, I like to fop it up now and again in the beer aisle. And I like buying Barbancourt rum. read more

Another great liquor store in the Elkton/Newark area! However, what really sets this one apart from all of the others is their AMAZING and EXTENSIVE selection. I am a HUGE fan of their make your own six pack option. It is a great way to sample a variety of beers at once. My boyfriend and I love to go here and pick and choose which beers we are going to try. They also carry a ton of harder to find beers.They also have a great wine selection and liquor selection. The other main thing that sets them apart that I think is legit the best feature of this store and any store in a50 mile radius- THE CHEESE AISLE !! They carry 75 different varieties of cheese, including goat and sheep cheese. They have a black truffle cheese that is particularly to die for. If you want awesome cheese, look no further than State Line, and while you're at it just head to the back and grab a delicious wine to go with. read more

Ridiculous selection. I have never seen a liquor store with such a selection. Top shelf liquors, rare brews, and extensive wine list. It was my first time in the store and I just walked around, marveling and trying to think of things that they couldn't possibly have (they had almost all that I could think of). I was able to find a bottle of Plymouth gin and Blanton's bourbon, neither of which are holy grails, but have been hard for me to find. They have a whirlpool bath that will chill your bottle of wine in seven minutes or less. Even have a nice cheese selection. Growlers are also now available in the back. I don't care if State Line doesn't love me (although I'm pretty sure it does), because if I lived closer they'd need to put a restraining order out on me with the amount of time I'd be in there. How do I love you, State Line? I love you like a lyric loves a melody. ::sigh:: Craft beers galore. Wines galore. Liquors galore. One of the best things about State Line is that it employs a knowledgeable staff that you can tell genuinely cares. My most recent time there a gentleman spent a solid 20 minutes with me helping me pick out an IPA that I would enjoy. Other times I've been there and they've gotten me whatever I've needed warm or cold from the back. Prices are all very reasonable for the beers and you can make your own craft-beer six packs, which is nice especially since there are so many great beers to choose from. Decent wine selection, excellent prices. Wine tastings. Everclear. This is definitely my favorite part of the long road from NYC to all points south. Another great thing is that keep their website fairly up to date and list all prices, so you can check to see if your favorite beer of the month (Shiner Cheer) is on the shelves without either a) calling or b) going there to find out it isn't there (but it was, and on sale!). This is hands down one of the best beer stores I have ever been in bar none, and I have been to MANY all over the United States. State line at first glance looks like a typical run of the mill keg store from the outside. However, once you enter you notice a very vast selection. Coming from the Washington DC area the prices here are very reasonable, in fact they are a down right bargain. There's lots of local offerings and when it comes to the US craft section there is a fairly good choice, but also many things that you can get elsewhere. However, the store has expanded and you can find a huge amount of variety. Where the place really shines though, is the imports, where many people dont seem to be shopping. What is particularly exceptional is the Belgian selection. There were many Belgian beers here that I have never even seen anywhere else in my shopping travels all over the US, it is very extensive. Also there were quite a few things here that normal beer geeks would easily snatch up. To come here is probably a bit out of the way, so lots of these things sit here. The foreign selection is also extensive in Italian, English and some good decent Germans. Finally the last thing is the service. I had staff come up to me constantly asking if I needed help or if they could look for something for me. I have all my tools in hand so, luckily I was good. Finally then, they carry it all out to my car. How great is that. The place is really worth going to once in awhile to find many different brews to try, even if it is truly out and remote. I have bought so much great beer from this place it isn't funny, even obscure stuff I think will never be around show up here. read more

I was amazed at the quantity of rare beers they have. When everywhere back home was sold out of Boulevard's Love Child they had over a case left. When my local beer store said they've been trying to get To Øl's Fuck Art series - of course this place has it. The selection is impressive (as been said here and elsewhere) but even more so is the extremely friendly knowledgeable staff. Have some obscure beer you're looking for - ask them and they will know immediately off hand if they have it, have had it, or can't get it. State line is probably my favorite liquor store in the history of my life. Six years ago, when I was a mere 21-year-old college student, state line was my preferred destination. Always a big fan of the free member program, 10% off. Worth it for the slightly longer drive, and makes up for the difference in sales tax, as Delaware is tax free and Maryland is not. Now that I've traveled the country (sort of) and have stumbled back into Delaware, I still find time to commute down to State Line from Wilmington when I'm in the area. What's great, too, is they've added a full 20+ tap area, for sampling and growler fills. And man-oh-man am I a fan of the $5 discount fills. Also, I always like grabbing some beers from the discount section. Nothing beats a case of Hawaiian Pineapple Mocha Ginger Red Ale for $12. But in all seriousness, there are great deals on out-of-season beers that fit the bill, and it's craft beer anyway, that stuff stays good for awhile. One of the absolute top 5 beer stores I've ever been to. AMAZING selection and really good prices. Most of the beers are already on sale, you don't even notice it until they ring you up. They have beers from all seasons, I was able to pick up winter lagers during summertime. If you like cider and ginger beer, they have an ENTIRE AISLE dedicated to that. The prices were excellent. I ended up spending about $80 bucks, got 4 cases, 2 six packs and a bunch of bottles. Also, they have a great selection of pint classes, from pretty much EVERY brewery around, and most are reasonably priced from $2-3 a piece. read more

This is my favorite liquor store in any state. It's not the cheapest around but it has the best selection--especially when it comes to beer. The selection of liquor is decent, the selection of wine is quite good, and the selection of beer is amazing. The best feature of this store is that they allow you (for only a reasonable premium) to purchase beers individually. As I'm quite the beer drinker, this is quite amazing as far as I'm concerned. There are so many beers offered here that even buying them one-at-a-time, it would be difficult to try them all. They frequently stock seasonals and one-time specials originating from microbreweries, so even if you exhaust their offerings you will find that as the months roll by you see more and more new bottles appearing on the shelves. In general, their selection of American micro-brewed beers is better than their selection of more mainstream imported beers. However, they do have an amazing selection of high-end imported beers, including a number of things that are very difficult to find elsewhere. I also want to mention that this place offers a discount-card which is worth applying for: it gives a substantial discount on most purchases. This place is absolutely precious. I also have several friends who also enjoy a good alcohol beverage There are 2 things that I enjoy about State Line. FIrst is their wide selection of quality items. They have a wide selection of beers, both domestic, imported, and micro-brew. They even have Kona Brewing Company beery from back home, not necessarily my go to beer but nice that it is there. They also have a great selection of sake including my favorite Nigori sake Rihaku, which was difficult to find. The second and more important thing to me is that the staff at State Line are extremely helpful and knowledgable regarding their services and stock. They can recommend something to match your need whether it is beer, wine, champagne, or liquor. They also are able to special order items for you if it is stocked at their distributors. So unfortunately Elkton gets a bad wrap I definitely don't venture down this way frequently though it's literally right over the Stateline in Newark DE. My boss and her hubby are the knower's of all things beer. So when they make a recommendation for places to check out Chris and I add them to our list IMMEDIATELY! I'm giving this place 5 start because they truly deserve them Awesome selection of WORLD WIDE BEERS i'm talking Italy, France, Africa, Australia you name it they have it. They offer tasting events frequently and they are usually reasonably priced (prices range from $10-15, most of the events benefit some type of charity or organization. They carry an even more vast selection of wines and spirits. About two years ago Chris and I did a wine class at tria and we fell in love with the best ROSE I have ever had in my life. Of course it's French. I searched high and low for the Domain Tempier Bangol Rose and alas almost 2 years later I located a bottle for dinner . I'm in a lot of like of this place. During my recent holiday travels, I was fortunate to stumble upon a retailer that may be heaven on earth for craft beer enthusiasts Of course, "stumble" is not totally accurate, as my journey to State Line Liquors in Elkton, Maryland was guided by fellow east coast craft beer advocates. If State Line is, in fact, heaven, the manna is delivered in the form of beer. Of which, there, the selection is endless. State Line is unique not because of that selection, although vast, but, primarily, because the consumer is so freely allowed to pick and choose beers as he or she may desire. Secondarily, that selection is robust with hard-to-find choices. Other retailers dedicate a wall to creating individual six-packs. State Line Liquors has dedicated an entire store. State Line is easy to locate. At 1610 Elkton Road, it is a convenient detour from I-95. Upon first arrival, not much about the facility prepares the visitor for the bustling experience about to be had. That is, besides the parking lot. Vast for a relatively small facility. And, during my visit, packed. Flawless? Well, the prices at State Line are no better than competitors. Perhaps more expensive on the whole. Joe Canal's, with several locations not distant in New Jersey offers 10% off each individual bottle when a six-pack is built. State Line does not. But, the small sacrifice in expense rewards the customer at State Line Liquors with superior service. It may not sound appealing initially, but the environment at State Line Liquors is a bit like a circus. Imagine the near-entirety of the mid-Atlantic region's like-minded beer folk descending on a central location. And at this mecca of booze, an "anything goes" attitude is encouraged. Carts darting in and out of cramped aisles. Boxes of random amounts of emptiness and near-emptiness tossed here and there. Patrons deep in conversation, rich with beer knowledge, ignorant to much occurring around them. Employees hurriedly rushing out of stock rooms, cases stacked dangerously high. A zoo, so to say. But this zoo offers exhibits so very precious to craft beer admirers. Imagine. Let's say that rare west coast hops-rich brew you had your eye on is stocked by State Line, but only in closed cases. But you desire but a single bottle. No problem. This is State Line Liquors. Rip open that box, unmarry a single beer from its brethren, add it to your cart, and move on. Allowed. Encouraged. State Line has embraced the madness, and is so much better off for it. I would say most anything goes here. Even standing in slack-jawed astonishment of State Line's immense selection, which more than a few of the patrons were doing. I exited State Line during this visit with a handful of Ballast Point's superb I.P.A., Sculpin, a bomber of Lukcy Basrtd by Stone, and a couple of Pennsylvania-brewed beers difficult to access in my hometown. Decent haul, but next time I intend to depart State Line able to line my "cellar" Visiting State Line Liquors will certainly become a tradition embedded in my future east coast travels. It is worth it. This is one of those places that most craft beer advocates do not visit by mistake. State Line's strong reputation amongst the community makes it a common destination, and deservedly so. I walked in the other day and was buying liquor. I went to the counter as the lady with blondish hair who was a little older and pudgy with glasses was checking my id. She walked away and another lady who was very young with short brown hair who was also behind the counter started to tell me that the other lady was really weird and saying mean things about her. I thought it was very unprofessional and it made me really uncomfortable. I did not like the atmosphere whatsoever as I left and that was very rude. Other than that, average prices compared to other competitors. The liquor store down the street was better. read more
