We chose this place to celebrate my 40th birthday, hoping for a memorable night--but unfortunately, it fell well short. After taking us past several empty booths (that looked really cozy), they seated us in an awkward corner in the back at what felt like a make-shift table. Not what we expected with having reservations, but we tried to be positive. We then waited about 10 minutes without anyone coming by to take even a drink order. It wasn't until I made eye contact with who appeared to be a manager that we were finally acknowledged. To his credit, he stepped in and took our order, and the food arrived quickly--but that's where the positives ended. The dishes themselves were underwhelming--lacking creativity and flavor, especially for a venue that presents itself as a speakeasy-style experience. If you're going to lean into that concept, the drinks or the food (ideally both) need to stand out. Here, neither did. For a milestone occasion, the service and overall experience felt inattentive and disappointing. There's potential here, but based on this visit, it missed the mark in a big way. read more

Good beers, good times. We stopped here for a couple of nights through Harvest Hosts on our cross country trip, and enjoyed several beers. They have arcade games for free!!! MOBC is located in an industrial area and fits in perfectly just on the outskirts of the city. We were greeted by a friendly staff member, Damian. He showed us around. The building is only a few years old. Snacks and clothing were also available to purchase. We bought some local extra sharp cheese to go with the beer. Damian supplied many crackers. Stopped in after a day at the office to enjoy a flight of beer while chomping on a panini from the local Wawa. Stopping in before the rest of the corporate population got out, the brewery was pretty quiet with a few other patrons enjoying their brews while escaping from their desks and finishing up work by the bar. First time here so opted for a flight of four which includes their IPAs, lagers and some sour drafts to switch things up. They had a few of their seasonal fall drafts on tap with some holiday drafts right around the corner. They did have a jalapeno seltzer in the background that they offered a taste while they did have another seltzer on the list that was more popular. The jalapeno seltzer isn't for the faint of heart but a nice switch up to the typical sour and tangy seltzers. I will be back to check out their other brews during different parts of the year. They do offer entertainment during the nice times of the year with outdoor music. You can also bring growlers from other breweries to fill up their drafts as well as offer crowlers for those that like a little variety. read more

MOBC is FANTASTIC! We scheduled an event, and the entire business (staff, location, ambiance, etc.) was AMAZING. Our Guest bartender Night was a success because of the tremendously helpful, kind, and knowledgeable bartenders...specifically Josh and Emily! They were so patient with us as we got in their way and tried to help, but they moved with ease and handled ALL THE THINGS. Many thanks to them and the managers...they were all amazing! We had a BLAST and will definitely recommend MOBC for events and as a phenomenal place to hang out and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere with some fantastic beers, live music, and a relaxed atmosphere. MOBC appears to be a VERY well-kept secret, but I think it may be time to "blow the doors off". A lot of the reviews below are outdated. Midnight Oil had about 8-10 beers on tap when I last visited a week ago. Like most new breweries in Delaware, midnight oil is located in an industrial complex. You cannot miss it, there are signs that point you in the right direction. When I went on a Friday night, there was a food truck. As we were leaving, there was also a band setting up. There were quite a few people there, and the bartenders were really good at making sure your glass was not empty. Seating is all indoors. I had the Sundown Saison, which I enjoyed, it was a nice light beer. My husband had the Dubbel Entendre- which he loved. I will definitely be back for more beer and food! read more

This spot is one of my favorite places in Delaware. I was lucky to visit when I was last in town in July. Back then I got a flight with my sister and we had a blast. This time we brought the whole family! Five adults and two kids all had so much fun. I really really love their midnight porter, a flagship beer of theirs. It's just plain delicious. Their rye IPA was really good too. I remember their saison being great. Although they don't have food, they always have a food truck visiting. All food trucks have been really good. My wife and I have been trying to hit all of the microbrew joints in the area. Just heard that this one popped up a few months ago. Its located in an industrial park. Not difficult to find. No food is served...however there is a food truck outside with exceptional food, food delivery is allowed and you can also bring in food. Staff is fun and chill. Beer is great. Nice young brewery not too far off I 95 in Delaware. When I went they had about eight different beers. The four I tried were all above average. They have food trucks in the evening and just received a license to sell wine and beer from other Delaware breweries. The brewery itself is fairly easy to find and clean and well kept. Staff was very responsive, outgoing, and eager to talk about their beer and other promotions. I would certainly recommend stopping by and trying some of their offerings. A flight of 4 five ounce beers was $10. Their beer club was absolutely worth the price and I would also recommend you ask staff about the club. The brewery itself is a little far from my home for me to make it a regular stop, but I'll certainly be stopping by every now and then to see what they have to offer. read more

Great first-time visit to Midnight Oil. We live in Dover and decided to take our dog to Lums Pond for a hike since we were experiencing spring-like temperatures in January. I had not yet been to the Newark area breweries and since they are typically dog-friendly, we incorporated a stop at Midnight Oil. First impression was fantastic - Crazy Rick's Food Truck was outside and offered to share some brisket with our dog! We headed inside and there was another dog onsite to keep our dog company. Very laid back atmosphere, and love that they had a sour as well as Painted Stave and Harvest Ridge options. The sour was great as I do not like "beer", and we enjoyed the gator bites from Crazy Rick's. The bartenders were very nice and friendly to our dog. I live in the nearby community and I think it's great to have a local, unique brewery within a stones throw. Fred F. & James, do you guys know what a brewery is??? Beer quality is suspect. Only two beers on tap. Porter didn't taste right. Saison okay. They need to ramp things up quickly.

Been two times now and haven't been impressed yet with any of the beers. First time- Saison and Porter only on tap. Saison was ok. Porter was off. Gave it some time before 2nd visit to give some time to get going. Had the Dull boy IPA and it was just that, dull. Had the Rye APA it was better then the IPA but not great. The weirdest part was the wedding going on in the back. Seems like they opened early to stop the bleeding of money. The first thing that comes to mind after having a flight...solid f**king beer. Located in an industrial park in Newark, DE...(that's New-Ark for my NJ peeps). This was stop #2 on the birthday brewery tour and was a recommendation from our previous stop and man o man were we glad she did. They just opened their bar/taproom area on Super Bowl Sunday and although new, these guys know how to brew some beer. The menu is IPA and Stout heavy with a Saison and Belgian Dubbel to round the menu out. I had a flight with the Belgian/Saison/Irish Stout/Rye IPA all well developed in flavor and body. My hubs had this insanely delicious Chocolate Stout it hits the nose before you taste it in such a playful way. Steve the bar keep was awesome and gave us plenty of insight on where to head on our journey throughout Delaware. Patrick one of the owners came out and continued the conversation about where hit next and said thanks for the picture I posted on Yelp. We will DEFINITELY be back and cannot wait for can distribution to hit NJ! A must stop if you're in the area! read more
