Came here with a party of 6. We were sat straight away but it was very hot. Not sure if the business is dealing with issues with their central air but they had several large ACs throughout the place. The booth we originally sat at made us feel too squished & hot, so we changed to a table which made us feel a lot better (regarding the heat) Alyssa was our server and she was great, however the service was a bit slow (not her fault, seemed like the kitchen?) We dined in on a Friday but we arrived early around 4:30. We were the only people in the one dining area with two others at the bar so not sure why the food took so long. However, the timeliness (& the heat) was my only complaint. The beer was great as well as the food! We really enjoy going out to Iron Hill Brewery in Newark. The staff is always friendly & helpful. We like that the atmosphere is low-key (especially when the college students are on break!) and we can watch sports while eating! Tonight our server was prompt, attentive, & nice. Everyone enjoyed their food; however, we all noticed the food being extra salty this visit. I had the traditional cheese pizza and it tasted like there was salt poured on top of it. My dad ordered the country schnitzel and the garlicky spinach was also extremely salty. Came here last year with a friend--despite being a Saturday night, the place was pretty quiet. Definitely family friendly and a good spot to eat even if you can't enjoy the bar. Our waitress was great, super friendly. We ordered the bavarian pretzel appetizer (which is a must-order for me at any restaurant) and it was great--it was an appropriate amount and the pretzels were soft. They provided both mustard and beer cheese dipping options, which was a plus as I hate when establishments only have the mustard or regular cheese. For my main, I had the pretzel mac & cheese, which I don't think is still served. That one was just alright. My friend, on the other hand, had the grilled chicken sandwich, which she loved! Newark location is a no go for me! Compared the the Wilmington location there is a big difference in staff, food, drink knowledge, and parking! Parking in Newark is horrible. It took me 15 minutes and talking down the parking people because the app didn't work and I was on the verge of being ticketed. When asking which beer most resembled a Belgium Wheat I was told that all beers are basically wheat because they are all made with wheat. Comical but not helpful. The tacos were good, the Caesar salad was good, but the soup was horrible. Tasted like it came from a can. The overall ambiance was old and not well kept. Dined here with my husband last night, planning to have the prime rib special, but they were sold out. Our server was apologetic and even brought us a little beer sample to try. I had a burger and my husband tried the schnitzel. The food was excellent, as per usual, but we were put off by our sticky, sticky table. Our arms were sticking to it. It wasn't because it hadn't been wiped down...the finish was soft and tacky. With the students away for the summer, now might be a good time to refinish the tabletops. read more

We went for dessert and coffee. As soon as we were taken to the dining area there was a funky smell. We almost left but was greeted by our server, Amber, who was delightful so we stayed. We tried their signature dessert and was not disappointed. The peanut caramel sauce was amazing. The coffee was good, too. But what made our visit was Amber. Came here at the recommendation of my sister. Service was slow and confused. Delivered cups of soup to those who asked for bowls. My husband and I asked for the bowl of mushroom soup which was tepid and came without spoons. We had to get up in search of them. I ordered the chicken wings which arrived cold and overcooked. They were also the smallest wings I have ever seen. Swear they came from pigeons. No joke! Sent those back. My sister ordered the margarita pizza which came as a veggie pizza. When she asked about it, the waitress said it's ok, right? Servers never cleared the table after our appetizers. When the table was finally too full, the servers told us to pick up the dirty plates so they could put down the food. Only a few were then taken away. I even tried to hand one to them and they kept walking never to return. When I sent back my wings, the waitress said she would get the manager and they never appeared. When it first opened the ambiance was quite refreshing. Now the place is starting to look at little rundown. But that doesn't take away from the excellent service and quite extensive menu items. Solid 3 stars... Looking for a brew pub in this quaint college town, and this joint fit the bill! Started out with the Reuben Sandwich...good meat, good portion, good bread. Could stand more crisp to the bread, and the fries were a bit soggy. Great beer selection, plenty of TV's for the game, and the dessert nearly put me under... Chocolate hill was a nice blend of brownie, fudge, ice cream, and nuts... I couldn't tackle it by myself but I sure tried! Ambiance is Victorian beer hall, service was friendly at the bar, and prices were ok. 100% would come back here. This is the spot for a nice dinner and date. Firstly, I have an extreme medical condition- I am sucrose intolerant and it makes eating out pretty hard to do. Our waiter Joe was super attentive and grabbed Chef Paul to ensure that I was ordering items that would be okay for me. Chef Paul was extremely knowledgeable and kind and accommodating. We ended up ordering: Cheese steak egg rolls (soooo good, had to get an order to go) hummus truffle fries 2 burgers crispy brussels. There was a horseradish and a hots type of sauce for the eggrolls that was addictive af. JUST GET THEM. Hostess was kind, Joe was great and food came out super quick, was hot, and so so so good. It had been a year or so since I have visited this location. They seem to be in a much better spot than when I was last here. I always still enjoyed my visits when in town here but today was I was blown away by the service. Even with what seemed like minimal staff everything came out hot and delish and it was nice to be walked through the menu by the service team, specifically the young lady that was bartending. Beer variety is anemic. Service is excellent and deserves 5 stars, but unfortunately is wasted on a restaurant with 2-star offerings catering to students who -- assumedly -- don't know the difference and don't care. Pricing is aligned with what you would expect from this segment of the restaurant space; expect to pay 7-8 bucks for a soup and the same for a beer. I ordered the Gumbo and the French Onion/Soup Au Gratin. The gumbo somehow manages to be flavorless despite having all of the necessary ingredients on-paper and not being AS thick and starchy as West Coast re-interpretations of this classic Bayou staple. I would be surprised if it didn't come out of a can. It's not straight soup, either, but comes on a hidden bed of rice to bulk the volume. If you don't like rice in your gumbo, too bad. The french onion / soup au gratin is...confused. This feels constructed by a recent culinary school graduate who wants to make his chef father proud but has never had the heart nor the soul for cuisine. The bread chunks are LARGE and un-cubed but for some reason aren't...used for presentation, as they should be if they are large, panini-sized chunks. The cheese is thick and cumbersome, and entirely the wrong type of cheese. Once you wrestle away the cheese you're at a loss for what to do with it after revealing the tasty, tasty broth awaiting beneath. Eating the cheese WITH the soup and somehow the bread on the same spoon insults the french onion flavor, yet eating it in isolation yields a piece of soggy cheese. Horrible. Music is good though. Loved the riverfront location first time at the Newark main Street location! It was a beautiful evening so we decided to sit outside for dinner. Service was very prompt and friendly. I ordered the witberry and a drunk monk burger which came with delicious mushrooms/onions, brie cheese and arugula on the burger. The fries were nice and crispy and the burger is so delicious. I'm never disappointed in the food I order at iron Hill since it's all so delicious! Glad this location measures up to the one on the riverfront! read more

Iron Hill has been a go-to restaurant for over a decade for my family and I. The past 12-18 months there has been a clear transition for the Newark location. At first there were climate challenges with the restaurant not having adequate heat/ac, but the service and food remained great! Recently, since summer 2024, the location has fell flat across all aspects: food, service, atmosphere. My latest experience was frustrating with long ticket times, undercooked food, failed attempts to remake said undercooked food, poor service, dirty tables, ripped booth seats, and staff repeatedly bumping into our child's highchair. I hope they figure out a way to turn it around, the new menu is pretty great when executed right. read more

This came highly recommended and it was absolutely worth the visit. This is in college town and I did visit on a holiday break so there weren't a lot of college kids around. Sitting at the bar is always my favorite thing to do. I was able to sample the beer first and I picked the Santa's little helper and it was absolutely tasty for a citrusy wit. I'll be back to sample more of their beers soon. I also took the bartenders recommendation for the calamari and vegetables, and wasn't disappointed. Beer is decent and the food menu is all encompassing. I'm a huge hazy IPA fan and when I saw 3 on menu, I was really excited. However, they all tasted the same and lacked flavor. Please note, I'm also from Colorado where all I do is hit breweries to support local. The real reason for this 3 is for the space cadet behind the bar. A real nice kid but the guy was terrible about checking in, clearing glasses, clearing plates, and all around trying to make money for the brewery. I think he needs more training. read more

NOT GOiNG BACK! Decided to try out the Newark location, one more time. Our last two visits we had the same server and they were terrible. Also, they are having some sort of HVAC problems with hoses hanging out in various places in the restaurant it needs to be updated. It is beat and dirty. The tables are sticky. There are flies and small pests flying around. Place was almost empty for lunch and my friend ordered a crabcake with sweet potato fries. The fact that the server sat down the plate with burnt black fries just amazes me. She did however offer new fries, which my friend said yes to absolutely. She should've taken away the whole plate. The crabcake very mushy inside and had to ask to return that as well. They took another and brought it out which she ate, but it was nothing to write home about still inside. and assistant manager came over to talk to my friend. She had to ask for them to comp her meal, which they finally did. I used to love this place, but it is not well run servers are not well trained and management is lacking. The restaurant should've gone a remodel several years ago. It just keeps getting worse. read more

Manager - I apologize for not having his name. We had a group from graduation with familes in the back room. We needed a few extra places for a family. These grads spent the last 4 years together and this was the celebration of their graduation with their familes (us included). Appetizers and drinks is what you'll find yourself enjoying the most here. They have social distance dining inside and a particular beer menu. Now while most of their beers are actually really good and you can only find the on premises my beef with iron hill is how they always seem to be out of atleast two things on the menu. If you don't hear "that keg just kicked" then you haven't been here yet. But honestly they have a ton of great options. The beer list constantly changes too. As for the food don't bother ordering anything other than appetizers. They have great apps! But the entrees are sub par for the price. This goes for any iron hill not just this one. We visited on a Sunday night while the University was on break, so it wasn't really busy. We got a seat right away. I ordered the Jerk Shrimp as an appetizer. It was really good. The sauce was very unique with a subtle spice to it, but not overpowering. It was more like a relish. For dinner, I had the brewben sandwich with sweet potato fries. It was good, but the fries weren't really hot. I was surprised that the food took a little longer than I would have expected considering that it wasn't very busy. The place was so cold...like 60 degrees inside the restaurant. Everyone in our party had to keep their jackets on just to stay warm enough to eat. As we looked around the restaurant, everyone else had their jackets on as well. We had asked our waitress to give us some heat, however, one-hour later it was still just as cold.
