His attentiveness and compassion truly meant so much in that moment. Mateo also went above and beyond by helping us get in contact with the manager to see if our tickets could be refunded since we had to leave early. He was patient, kind, and professional throughout the entire situation. Mateo deserves all the recognition. First time in, for an advanced Amazon Prime Early Access screening via Fandango of Wicked: For Good. Did the "Gothic Revival" public parking lot behind Timothy's Bakery and walked a block over. They had a fun green and pink balloon arch, tinsel and an Oz yellow brick road/Emerald City backdrop too. Three lines for concessions, and I was happy with my medium buttered popcorn and Coke. The 6:30pm showtime was held in the largest auditorium/screen #1, and having reserved my seat without ever going there before, F16 was not bad at all. They do have the reclining seats and swivel tray tables. The sound was very loud and the projection was clear, no issues. Went to see a movie on a Tuesday night for the discounted tickets with friends. A family would not shut up behind us the entire time and I finally went out to find a worker with my wife. We wanted to talk to the manager but there was no manager to be found despite the workers doing their best to look for one and call them on their walkie-talkies. No manager ever came out to discuss the situation with me. I'm wondering why it was so difficult to get in contact with a manager? We're talking the rest of the movie (probably an hour) and it was the same non-manager workers who later found me and told me I'd get a refund, not an actual manager. This stands in stark contrast to when I worked at Cinemark, where there were always at least two managers on site who responded within seconds on the walkie talkies. In the end, I did get a full refund for all of the tickets I bought so I guess it was nice that I got a free movie out of it? I doubt I'll go back though, this is the second time in as many months that people were talking during movies and nothing seems to be done about it. I'll probably just go to an Alamo Draft House from now on since they actively enforce the no talking rule. read more

UPDATE: The general manager extended an invitation for my family and me to revisit this theater and give it another try. I was instructed to come any day and time and ask the manager for our vouchers. I really appreciated him reaching out so quickly and explaining that this isn't the experience they want guests to have. We finally got to revisit, and we followed his instructions. We went to the concession stand and the employees working were very nice and told me the manager would be out in a few minutes, so we waited. We waited for about 15 minutes, which made us a bit worried about time since we wanted to try their food for lunch and be seated for the previews. The manager Alicia was very nice and helpful and we were able to order our food and get to our seats in time for the previews. My youngest ordered pepperoni pizza, my oldest got a chicken burger and garlic Parmesan fries, and my husband and I got a cheeseburger and garlic Parmesan fries. With four drinks, the total was a whopping $93! They said it'd be ready in about 15-20 min, so we had to go back out to grab it. I get that you can't expect gourmet food at a theater, but the lady gave me two burgers with cold buns and a chicken burger with an ice-cold bun. I had to call her back and tell her. She told me the food was warm, but the buns were frozen as they had to take them out to thaw. I had to ask her to warm up the buns and food again, because we're not eating frozen buns. The fries were undercooked and it looked like she just dumped grated parmesan cheese on them, and we didn't taste any garlic. The pizza was great, and my son loved it. For the price we paid, we'll probably just eat before the movies next time. The customer service was way better than last time and my husband and kids loved the big screen theater. Well, I'm an idiot. I've lived in a general area for the last 30 years. I've driven by this place a million times, and always thought it was an old building that used to be a theater. You know, back in the days when there was only one theater in town and multiplexes didn't exist. So my friend got tickets for an early showing of the new Wicked movie. First, it was surprising that it was in Woodland, given that the movie doesn't even come out until later this week. Woodland? Seriously? So when we entered, I expected a really old theater. Maybe something like what they have in Davis. Little theater seat seats where everyone is squeezed on top of everyone else. Whoa. No. Hear me out. When you walk in, it looks like a typical lobby. Yes, there is a nice art deco vibe, much like outside, but it looks like a typical lobby. You take yourQR code and you validate them for actual tickets at a kiosk. It was a little frustrating that all of those were out of order except for one. No big deal. The concession stand is pretty typical. But, then there is a little restaurant off to the side where they actually sell things that looked good. Pastrami sandwich? Sure! Wine? Beer? Got it. OK, granted I don't get out much but these are pretty good offerings for a movie theater! But then we went inside. It was lovely having reserved seats. We were able to choose them in advance and we didn't have to worry about arriving terribly early because we knew we had good seats. I was shocked. They are like a first class seat on an airplane. May be better. Super wide, immaculately clean, and they recline! Seriously, they are electric and they recline. If you don't like the movie, you can at least take a nice nap. The seats also had tray tables which swing in and out with a nice deep place to put your drink and your sandwich if you have one. And did I mention clean? No sticky feet. The floor was shiny. The whole place is laid out so that people really can't interfere with one another. We had lots of legroom, yet people could still walk in front of us if necessary, even when reclined. The seats are arranged in pairs. And you are far enough apart from your friend so if you were one of those people that likes the "seat in between for the popcorn" you won't feel too close. (Ya'll know who you are.) And you don't have to worry about having a really tall person right in front of you blocking your view. We sat towards the back, (our choice) and the picture was crystal clear and the sound was fantastic! Quite frankly, this changed my feelings about movie theaters in general. I pretty much stopped going to the theater during Covid and got used to watching anything I needed online. I am going to be making some changes to that. This was an experience that made going to the movies just as special as it used to feel when I was a much younger person and we didn't have other options. In Woodland. Who knew? Well, not this girl. This beautifully restored cinema is deceptively small from the front but it goes back quite a ways with enough room for 10 screens. In addition to the usual concession stand selling snacks, there is a restaurant serving sandwiches and light meals. Adult beverages are available at both. Seats are large but I am not sure if they have recliners. Much of the original motifs from yesteryears are preserved while modern conveniences make the theater comfortable. read more

We came in today and staff greeted patrons at the door... asking first if she could scan the pre purchased QR code and then if pre purchase hadn't happened, she directed everyone on where and how to purchase their tickets and snacks. I find their regular seats to sit straight up too much to be really comfortable but that's a personal preference, other than that this is a perfectly nice theater although there have been times when they have had issues with their heating and AC in extreme weather. read more

This is a beautiful refurbished theatre on the historic Main Street in Woodland, California and the only theater we could find located in the town. I was excited to see the building and attend a movie there. We are giving it only 2 stars due to the fact that it was so loud my ears are still ringing 2 days later. My husband is a bit hard of hearing and loves going to movies, it was way too loud for him also. We are in the area often and will not be attending movies there again it was so bad. They also have a small cafe inside with lovely outside and inside seating options. Cafe offers mostly sandwiches, flatbread pizzas and salads. Unfortunately they were out of all 3 healthy items from their menu that I tried to order. The prep area behind the counter where the food items were located looked pretty bare. The main snack bar was well stocked with prices being typical. A popcorn and soda were about $20. Such a lovely place with great potential. P.S. One of my very favorite things in the world is going to see a film in a well-preserved, independent classic style movie theatre with a big, beautiful marquee. They do not make them the way they used to, and it warms my heart to see one still doing well. I do what I can to try and keep them in business, because watching a movie in a boring, modern chain cinema is just not the same. Woodland has the State Theatre and Multiplex as just one of the prettier examples in the area. I don't always need to pair a visit to an older movie house with a classic movie however, so my friends and I came here recently to see Jurassic World: Dominion. This turned out to be a good choice as they had a killer sound system in here, along with the more modern conveniences of air conditioning and reclining seats. So, the State Theatre has had remodeling done, but thankfully they left the gorgeous ceiling and its light fixtures alone. The screen was also larger than your standard, though not as big as IMAX. I am not an expert on sizes and ratio though, so sorry. We did not park in their lot, or order concessions, but we did enjoy ourselves during the movie and I would definitely come back again. The bathrooms were clean and didn't have ancient plumbing like the beloved State Theatre in my hometown. This is a clean, nicely preserved cinema building, with updated seats, surround sound, and AC. Street parking is plentiful. And if you were going to ask, yes they do dust in here. No full dryer sheet of dust on the vents to be found. XD read more

I've been coming to the State since it opened and love that it is so much nicer and more comfortable than the Davis theaters. BUT at this point they need to invest in new projectors. I saw Sinners there twice -- once a few weeks ago, larger auditorium, it looked great. I went again last weekend and saw it on one of the smaller screens and it looked terrible. It was dark, could barely see faces and the screen was noticeably flickering especially on wide shots. Cinema is a visual medium, if you can't make it look good, I'm not going to spend $15-20 to come and see it. Also, don't put the house lights up before the post credit scene. read more

I took my daughter to the snack bar to hit some candy at 8:45pm. No one at the counter. There's a a guy in the cafe making a pizza, an him if I can buy the candy in the cafe or is there someone that can come to the main snack bar. He tells me they're closed and I can't buy anything. Ok....... So my daughter has to use the bathroom, so after a few minutes, we pass by the snack bar area after the bathroom visit on our way to auditorium 3 AND..... there's a line of people buying things. The same guy who told us they were closed was serving them!!...... Laziness and bullshit is what that was. I live in Woodland but will take my movie business elsewhere. This rating is solely regarding the concessions. The popcorn tastes stale. I don't imagine it really is, but it's not crunchy. The pretzel is hard as a rock. The drink I wanted, which is listed on their cocktails menu, was not available in the cash register, so they couldn't ring it up. They play all the current movies. The theaters are clean, very good visual and audio quality. But, getting your tickets and snacks is horrible! I have never seen a worse set up and slower service line. Plan on a 30 minute wait, even when you're halfway in line. Outside the door? Forget it. I have no idea why they never man the tickets only desk. Doing so would save a lot of time. I must say, the employees try hard and generally have a good attitude. Came here on a Tuesday evening to watch Little Women. It was surprisingly busy for a weekday evening. There was a line at every concession counter - wait was maybe 10 mins per line, which is not too bad, but if your movie is about to start, it could be a hassle. Food/drinks are pretty much your standard snacks. They do have ice cream as well. The theatre has nice, spaceous, comfortable recliner chairs. Due to the size of the recliner chairs, the smaller theaters have maybe around 26-36 seats, so may be best to book your seats ahead of time. Minus one star for parking. The theatre is on Main st in downtown Woodland so as you can imagine, it's located on a busy main st. They do not have their own parking structure (at least I didn't see one). This theater seems cool and all because of its grand and historical appearance, however, it has its pros and cons. Pros: you get to pick your seats ahead of time and most of the time, they're reclining seats. The staff at the concessions are super nice. Good selection of snacks and drinks. Good selection of movies and showing times. Cons: the theaters are inconsistent, some have recliner seats and some don't, some have bulky walls in the center of the seats, making it hard for shorter people to recline and still see over. The projectors are a bit dim. Last time I went there it was 90 degrees outside and we had very little relief sitting in the theater. It was so hot, we were sweating the whole time. Someone asked if they could turn the A/C up and they said it was on but they get a lot of complaints about that room. Lastly, one worker in particular takes her job at the podium way too seriously. Looks thoroughly through bags, made me throw out my truffles and nutritional yeast (I just wanted to put it on my popcorn). I know the "no outside food or drink" rule okay?? I just like to have a little something extra without paying an arm and a leg. The thing that bothered me most is she wanted me to dump my filtered water from my hydro flask and refill it at the water fountain. Asking a pregnant lady to dump out her water seems a bit excessive. You could see inside that it was water, I assure you I was not sneaking in vodka. I don't know, it was just really annoying because we still bought large popcorn, large drinks, and candy before that: What's a few truffles and nutritional yeast going to do??? Ok this is the first time I have been to this theater. I don't know what everything was like a pre-Covid but I can tell you during Covid I was thoroughly impressed. I took the boys to watch a movie last night . This has been our first big screen experience in over a year. Everyone had a mask on and the place was clean. They practiced social distancing for employees and customers without it being strange or inconvenient. Employees were kind and helpful. We had a wonderful experience and will definitely be going back. Best part, the seats we're comfortable. I am very tall with long legs and I have plenty of room and the prices were reasonable at the concession stand. AaWe got here about 30 minutes before the movie was set to start and needed dinner. Decided to take the risk and eat at the State Theatre. What you'll get is the usual movie grub (unless you check out the little cafe that they have, which sells pizzas and sandwiches ... I was a little skeptical that their pizza could be good - and I'll admit that is my bias and that I am a rather terrible pizza snob about eating pizza in places that are not pizzerias ... Target? Nope. Not eating your pizza. Random gas station? Nope. Not eating your pizza.) But I digress ... there were 4 of us and we ordered the largest size popcorn they had (which comes with a free refill), 2 pretzels, 1 hot dog, 1 nachos, a glass of chardonnay and a small soft drink for about $28. I was extremely skeptical about my nachos and its cheese, which was pumped out hot out of a nachos cheese machine. Was this going to be the end for me? Did I just eschew the pizza for a botulism nachos special? Well, I survived. It was fine - as fine as this kind of old school nachos can be. Everyone was happy and the price was right. First time to the iconic state theatre in woodland. Oh boy the original was a dump before they brought it down. This facility has a touch of modern mixed with classic. Walking on Main Street to the theatre is pretty as you see other older buildings. The theatre has a restaurant but you can also buy beer and wine and take to the movies. Prices aren't too bad. You also have the usual popcorn etc for purchase. The seats are comfy and the first row has recliners and are very comfy. Nice intimate seating not 100 plus. Will come again. read more

The guy who served us was rude and doesn't know how to say hi or thank you. He likes to over talk and give people attitude. Poor service. This was Saturday at around 6:30 pm Second when everyone was inside to see the movie they had turned off the AC and everyone was complaining how hot it was and few are using the popcorn cardboard tray for fan. An old couple next to us was coughing they said it's really hot. Imagine if those couple had health issues. This Theater will be paying so much money. Will NOT recommend this place. I am a bit disappointed with the theater. The ticketing process is absolutely stupid. They have a "ticketing booth"; but you dont purchase your tickets there... you buy at the concession stand. The lobby around the concession stand was filthy; popcorn, and straw wrappers everywhere. The men's bathroom had a urinal missing, and there was scratched graffiti on a paper towel holder. Then there is the "cafe" that is attached to the theater... hasn't been open since the pandemic began... Maybe the owners need to consider selling the property to someone that has the ability to operate the facility better than they are currently doing. State Theater reopened after being closed over a decade. My first visit back was this past weekend and I loved being able to choose and purchase seats in advance! That in and of itself will have me returning to this theater over the other local place or driving to Sacramento. I haven't tried the cafe but I like the idea of wine and beer. As far as the theater goes, I really like the splurging on better seats with less occupancy. Still plenty of seats, but a lot more room. I sincerely hope folks take care of this place. I did not get a chance to tour the place but I hope some of the art decco lighting from the old place was salvaged and somehow incorporated into the new. read more

After spending almost $50 for 2 of us to go see a movie (with drinks and snacks) I was told I was not allowed to enter until they searched my bag. I have been here many times and never had this happen. My bag is literally big enough to hold my tampons and some money had I known this new rule I would have just put them in my pocket. Entirely humiliated that I had to pull out my tampons in front of everyone just to show them I'm not hiding a candy bar in there. As a woman it feels wrong to be searched just for carrying a small bag that can't fit anything that wouldn't fit in a pocket when we need to carry personal essentials such as tampons I don't really want to show the world. read more

If I could I would rate it lower. But I am very disappointed with the service at the state theater. My family and I are long time customers of this theater, have been going since before the remodel and after and even excited to go back once it was okay for them to open after the closure. But last night my family and I went to go see Space Jam: A New Legacy. My brother who is 23 and autistic was the most excited to go to the theater. But sadly our experience was cut short with being escorted out of the theater. Due to my older brother who was expressing his excitement with laughter, whispered comment, showing thumbs ups. Like everyone in the theater he was enjoying the movie and going in with the "ohhh", "Ahhs". But sadly, his experience was cut short. He left with confusion and disappointed. As a family we were heartbroken & pissed that a place we thought was accepting would treat us badly. Now this situation could have been taken care of in a different way. But the staff "had to do their job" which made us feel very unwelcomed. Two of the managers (who were fairly young) came into the theater room multiple times, and were wondering around the room looking for something. But it wasn't until my family and I felt like we were being watched. They move forward and come up to my parents and ask us to leave the theater due to the noise my brother who was disturbing others. We respectfully leave the theater room and fully voice our concerns to the manager and all they could offer was a refund on tickets, concessions, and give us tickets that work 2 weeks after a movie is out. They offered us to stay for a later showing. BUT WHO WANTS TO STAY AT A PLACE THAT THEY ASKED US TO LEAVE, we didn't feel welcomed and at that point we didn't want to consume their service anymore. They could've asked one of my parents to step out and talk about the situation and better accommodate us or the person who filed the complaint. But no they continue to "do their job" and discriminate someone with a disability who was genuinely enjoying the movie and wasn't hurting anyone. It's very disappointing that we live in a town where they want was to support locals, and they claim to be family friendly and diverse but after last night they did not want to hear our voice and decided to do what's best for them. We will have to rethink if we would like to return to that theater, but until then we will have to go to another theater. Good: People who work there are nice, you get nice recliner seats (some) and it's a movie theater so you get to see movies. Bad: Always long lines. Get there very early or you will miss the first part of the show, or have to buy your tickets on Fandango while in the lobby! Since they never have the ticket counter open, nor is the machine working, you have to wait in line behind people who are buying time consuming items from their extensive menu. People buying nachos, alcoholic slushies and everything in-between are holding you up from getting your tickets. Then you have to wait for people to look at the screen and choose their seats! The folks behind the counter are working hard but it's totally ridiculous. Either get there 30 minutes early (you never know when a super popular show will be starting at the same time as the one you want to see), be willing to miss the first part of the movie and walk into a dark theater, or forget about the popcorn and pay extra for the tickets on fandango. Cute little theatre. Went to see a movie with some friends. It was nice & clean inside and the service was mostly friendly. Popcorn was good and tasted fresh. I love the reclining seats. My only gripe was as we were waiting to give the ticket person our tickets a gentlemen made a huge show of needing to check our handbags. It was kind of silly. First of all, we had our arms full of treats we purchased from the theatre. Secondly, this is the first time I've ever been searched at a theatre. Maybe don't charge $10 for some Skittles if you don't want people to sneak in snacks, lol. For the record we did NOT sneak in snacks but I don't love showing random strangers the contents of my purse. I like to start off positive. The place was clean and the seats are nice. I understand trying to make money, but having to buy the tickets from the concession stand and wait for everyone to buy their food is wrong. Then they are under staffed to run everyone through the concession stand. After all that they guided us to the wrong movie. After we sat down the show started but the lights didn't dim.
