Tried here with friend while traveling through the city. I had the lamb gyro, and it was very tender and seasoned very well. It also was a good size and very filling. Whoever was working their food truck in Remsen today was one of the rudest people I have ever dealt with. The truck was supposed to open at 3pm today so I called at 2:45pm to place an order and was met with a very brusque "we are very busy today and not taking any phone ins"---no, sorry we cannot take phone orders today which I could have respected. If you cannot take the time to be pleasant or professional---you need to find another job--even if you are family. i will never patronize ANY of your businesses. Greek food is one of my FAVVVVS and I always love trying out new Greek restaurants in the area. This one is pretty legit! Here's a quick rundown; Parking lot is small but there's also street parking so it wasn't an issue! The interior of the restaurant is typical Greek themed. Blue and white like the Greek flag! Very casual (deli-like) vibe. Employees are efficient and fast. This is definitely not a fine dining or fancy dinner experience. The menu is like a take-out menu but they have all of the Greek specialties. I got grape leaves for an appetizer and a gyro for lunch. They were both good. I have been a loyal customer here at this Stathis Restaurant on Genesee Street in Utica NY since the opening, I will never go back nor reccomend them. The food is always good but they have a menu/ set price scam going on. First, the prices on the menu are inaccurate and after you eat and pay, the charges are always higher by a few dollars. When asked why they told me: there are old menus and we don't have time to update them, so we just raised the prices "about a dollar" on all items. Of course, no one tells you this before you order and if you complain they point to a large hand written sign on the counter that states: Prices subject to change without notice. Now I ask you, who does this? They can charge whatever and you have nothing to say about it. They point out that the sign was on the door also and it's my fault that I didn't see it. This is the worst type of BS. Stay away from this place unless you enjoy being ripped off. read more

Went here for lunch with the wife after seeing a number of good reviews. Even after seeing the reviews and having our hopes raised we were blown away! My wife had the gyro and I had the mixed grill and everything was amazing! Honestly speaking of the best lamb I have ever had in my life. We also split the taziki and pita appetizer as well as the hummus and pita one and they were both great. Stathis has become my favorite meal in Utica....prior to trying them, I had only had greek a handful of times and was always disappointed. Since then, I've tried the more "well known" greek places in the area and they hardly compare both in terms of food and service. The help is always friendly and helpful, nearly every visit the owner is engaged with customers and consistently goes out of his way to make guests feel welcome and their business appreciated, the old school is alive and well in this place. I started with the lamb gyro and now have moved on to the gryo platter, which includes lamb, bread, and a salad. The lamb is the real deal, tender, juicy and full of flavor, AMAZING, delicious, an absolute treat. The salad is always fresh, with tomato, red onion, feta, cucumber, olives. The dressing it comes with is also top notch, mixed together with the lamb and tzatziki, there's nothing better for the money, getting takeout from here is the digestible highlight of my week. If I had to complain, I wish the salad was bigger, but the lamb portion is ridiculously huge. I tear through my salad right away and scarf half my lamb before my gut starts to explode. Saving the rest for later, $12 gets you 2 meals easy....the gyro for $8 is overstuffed as well and well worth the price. I don't know if this place is on peoples radar but it should be, I've visited lots of the more well known restaurants and take out places in Utica and few compare to Stathis, highly recommend! read more

My wife and I were in Utica this weekend, and were looking for a good local place to eat. We found Stathis Greek Restaurant, and are we ever glad we did! They serve what turned out to be the best Greek food we've ever had (which is saying a lot, as we used to live near Detroit, where there are a lot of Greek and Mediterranean restaurants, so we have had our share of authentic Greek food.) The lamb was tender and juicy, the tsatziki was tangy, the pita was soft and warm, the hummus was rich and flavorful. The portions were so big, we ended up taking enough home for a second meal, and the prices are very fair, especially considering the quantity and quality of the food. Not to mention the fact that the service was was friendly and knowledgeable. If you find yourself in the Utica/Rome area, you owe it to yourself to eat here. My salad was ordered with check, no croutons as I am celiac. i got a bowl of romaine and croutons. We had a long day and were looking for food that would be tasty and filling. This was the right place! Started out with their hummus and pita appetizer. If you love garlic, you will not be disappointed. I had the moussaka plate and it was delicious. The spices were just right, the salad was crisp and topped with tomatoes, sweet onions, olives and feta cheese. My spouse had the lamb and chicken plate. The lamb was so tender it almost melted in your mouth. Unfortunately, we had no room left for dessert, but the menu selections sounded fabulous. We have to head back to Seattle in a few days but hope to get back to Sathis before we fly out. read more

We ordered a lamb gyro (good), Greek fries (not great), and the Epilogi, which includes meatballs (good), sausage (delicious), fried calamari (terrible), feta, olives and tomatoes. Portions were large, price was reasonable, and our takeout order was ready on time. There are definitely better Greek/Middle Eastern restaurants in the area, so I probably wouldn't return. read more

They make a great mixed grill, salad was fresh, rice pilaf is pretty good. Their chicken is 4/5, a tiny bit on the dry side but still very good. The gyro meat and Greek sausage are the real star of the show, absolutely excellent. Food is ready quickly, and it's been good the last three times I went. Easily competes with Symeons, and a lot faster to get your food. If they sold their salad dressing by the bottle I'd be stocked up all the time. read more

Amazing gyros wow I was amazed how great they wear!!!!! The amount of meat you get is extraordinary and the gyros are only 8 dollars. Not to mention there baklava to top it all of. The best gyro restaurant is upset New York by far probably better then any place I even ate in New York City as well. Definitely worth going to. read more

I have been ordering ever since they opened, and always ordered the same thing. Each time the price was higher and portions were smaller. Okay, I understand they may have been adjusting prices and portions so we continued ordering. However, today I was charged an additional $8 fee for not having my gyro wrapped on the platter... she said it's an "up charge for packaging purposes". My kids like to assemble their own so they don't get soggy by the time they arrive, it is not too much to ask for and actually saves them time by throwing everything on a plate instead of wrapping it. Our gyros arrived and my children were left hungry! The gyro meat was literally diced up into hamburger meat and there was enough meat for a bite full in each, and I am not even overexadurating because we are not big meat lovers but we do like the meal properly proportioned. We are definitely not ordering again! Every time I ask to speak to the manager I'm also told he's unavailable, what kind of business is that? read more

This was our first time here. We we're looking forward to some real Greek Gyros. Reading the reviews we thought lets check it out. Big mistake!!! The service was bad. We waited a good while before our server took our order. There was only another couple in the restaurant. while waiting for our food, I needed to use there bathroom. OMG they need to fix the problems in that bathroom, if you're going to run a restaurant or any kind of business have everything working properly. What a mess, you would think how Strick things are because of the Covid virus, that this place would have their act together. NOT!! when we got our food, our Gyros were cool including the pita bread and the fries semi-warm. I know business are hurting but come on! How do you expect to stay in business when you're doing a poor job, bad service and your bathroom semi working. Anyway will never go here again....... I can't even give it a star! The atmosphere was clean and nicely greeted as I entered establishment. The lamb gyro was a very desirable size sandwich, and had excellent flavor.
