Sort of odd for us that several of these local restaurants are secluded and in the middle of a residential area. Chowder House has a little strange entryway so when you walk in you have the feeling of not really knowing where you're going. You are greeted with a large fish tank though which is perfect. Once inside, the place opens up and there is plenty of seating. Very nice seafood Decore throughout the restaurant. Very friendly and knowledgeable server this evening. She named off several specials that were available, and didn't have to read a thing. Many of the items are made fresh daily so this is a high-quality restaurant. We both ordered the clam chowder which was really good. My colleague ordered the Pirates seafood platter which came with shrimp, fish, fries and coleslaw. I had one of the specials which was shrimp and squash ravioli. This was extremely good. I mentioned as we were leaving that if we had eaten here earlier in the week, I would definitely have eaten here again. Many items on the menu to select from, and I would love to try more however leaving town in the morning. The price is right as well. We were out the door with tip for around $50. A little overcooked, but overall tasty and the highlight of the meal. Fried Fish Sandwich ($11) & Fries: The bread on the sandwich was delicious, but both the fish and the fries were incredibly greasy. This spot is always packed and clearly has a loyal following, so I don't know what happened during our visit. I usually adhere to a three-strike rule before judging a restaurant, but the food was heavy enough that we won't be returning.

The fried Haddock Combo came with fries and a drink but no tartar sauce ($1 extra). The fish was a good size with no fishy taste. Otherwise ,the place discourages eat-ins. The seating area was FREEZING cold; I needed to wear my hood and gloves. The bathrooms were BOTH blocked with a ladder and a sign saying "closed sorry ," so we couldn't wash our hands. Thankfully the lady at the counter let us use her hand sanitizer. The garbage can was full when we went to throw out the packaging. All-in-all, the ordering and eating experiences were unpleasant for a cost of $54.

We got a bit less than 3 pounds of the swai, a bottle of Beaver tartar sauce, and a half pound of fries. That turned out to be more than 3 adults could eat for under $30. That is hard to beat! The average wait time is 20 minutes beyond your reservation time. Once you are finally seated, the wait staff are knowledgeable and friendly and will help you select your evening repast. And then you will wait again. Typically at least 20 minutes for your food. For your drinks, for your appetizers. It wasn't always like that. There is an internal inefficiency in their kitchen operations in recent months that results in delays. They seem to have enough staff. They just seem to have lost their rhythm. The ambience is lovely, the table settings fine. But there are little things that are slipping. As you can tell from my many reviews of this restaurant over the last several years, this beautiful establishment has achieved four stars. But today in June 2026, their beautiful cuisine is served on nice porcelain plates, but their coleslaw is served in a paper cup. The music is way too loud so you can't have a conversation at the table unless you scream. And they claim to not be allowed to turn the music down. They clearly cater to the 30 and under crowd. The 60s and older are not a priority for them. Wine is properly served, and the drinks are nicely mixed but to get a refill will take you a very long time. When the tables around you are empty, it begs the question as to what is the cause of the delay. My last two dinners here experienced these inexcusable delays. I hope they get the problem straightened out. Because this really is a destination restaurant.
