Golden Anchor Cabins - Seneca Rocks in the fall

My wife and I have stayed here 3 years in a row and we absolutely love the area, lots of trails for hiking, a near by Golf Course at Canaan Valley Resort, Seneca Rocks are close by for day time activities. The towns of Davis and Thomas are also close by with tons of good shops, breweries, and restaurants. We absolutely love this part of the country. The cabins have everything you need whether you want to stay in and cook in their fully equipped kitchen, all you need to bring is food & drinks! There are even Charcoal grills at every cabin and the Jacuzzi hot tubs are perfect to pass the mornings & evenings away. Our cabin Serenity had a pool table and bubble hockey game upstairs. Plenty of DVD's, dish network tv, puzzles, books, and some games. The beds are a little firm for our taste, but that is really the only negative that I have. Not ridiculous but just wish they were softer. We can't wait to go back next year!

I call it a resort because it absolutely fits the definition of a resort which is a place that is a popular destination for vacations or recreation, or which is frequented for a particular purpose. The destination is popular for all Canaan Valley activities (skiing, horse back riding, cavern exploration, etc). We frequent these cabins for recreation, relaxation, rest and recuperation. The cabins are second to none and the attention to detail is simply amazing. The cabins are decorated with five star quality and they all present that home away from home feeling. The kitchens have all the appliances, dishes, pots and pans that you need in order to prepare those home cooked meals while living in your home away from home. This was our second time visiting this luxury cabin resort and we decided to bring our brother and sister along for a birthday celebration. My wife and I stayed in the Royale Cabin and my Brother and sister stayed in the Majestic Cabin. When we arrived we walked right into our cabin and were amazed by the captivating appeal. The soft music was playing in the background and the cozy gas fireplace had the place warm and toasty inside. Both cabins were even meticulously decorated for Christmas holiday which was a very nice touch. Daniel & Jamie Marsh are Simply Outstanding and you can tell that they care about their customers experience. They have thought of everything in order to make your stay extremely enjoyable and relaxing to include the jacuzzi/Hot tub which was excellent during the winter nights. We will FOREVER support them and this astonishing luxury cabin resort because they understand professionalism, quality, customer appeal and customer service. There were bugs in the cabin; earwigs, spiders, ants, beetles and a slug. No A/C!!!! Beds, bedding, couches were all old and uncomfortable. Towels are rough (bring your own). Fridge was very run down and rusted, the stove had a burner that didn't seem to work and was very old. $295 per night.... I would never stay here again. This is what I would be able to pay for a luxury hotel. Not worth it.

The river view and sounds on one side are delightful and relaxing. The Greenbrier Trail is just on the other side, with great rides in both directions. It was nice that we could just hop on our bikes and ride. We had an issue with the lack of advertised wifi (removed the week before because the carrier was so unreliable). The owners were very understanding and made it right for us. We WERE able to get access to some spotty wifi at the corner store a half mile away and better wifi at the coffee shop in Marlinton. We learned from various sources that internet service in Pocahontas County is like a third world country. Can't really blame the owners for that! We also had an issue with the water, as mentioned by another reviewer. It is nasty! You quickly discover that it is NOT drinkable. Even one of our dogs got sick from it. So, bring bottled water or get it at the nearby corner store. There seem to be some other sanitation issues on a neighbor building too, since we smelled their sewer towards the end of the week. Not too bad, but we were aware. It was near the end of the season, and there had been a lot of rain before, so maybe it was due for a pumping. Overall, we would visit again. The owners seem to be good and conscientious people who made every effort to ensure we had a good experience.

Didn't get to use the charcoal "park grill" that was added since our last visit but it looked like it has potential to make a great meal. "Next time!" Staff is friendly and goes to lengths to make sure you feel welcome and that your stay is comfortable. Wifi at the cabin was helpful in locating things to do in the area since there's no cell service. We kept the electronics to a minimum and enjoyed the beauty the area has to offer. The highlights of our stay were the hike to the top of Crabtree Falls, the beach fun at Sherando Lake and the visit to Wild Wolf Brewery for dinner and corn hole. Can't wait to book our next stay at what the kids have dubbed "our cabin in Virginia!" Lol!

Logwood - Renter Beware!!!…read more Video/pictures are carefully presented to not depict what you will be truly getting. If you are looking for a private cabin in the woods with easy access to a creek right outside the back door, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU. - The cabin is located on a well-traveled road, not off the beaten path via the gravel drive depicted. - There are two additional homes right next door - a big rating of 0 for privacy. - The inside is extremely small (which was ok), but the photos do not accurately depict what is there. The full size washer/dryer (in the kitchen) is overkill in this little space , no cute table & chairs; instead an ugly bar thing. The furnishings are more than a little worn; look like they came from a bad second-hand store. - Bath is ok; no shower. - Upstairs is a one room loft. The video depicts 2 full size beds, the written description states 3. Which is it? Three beds and dressers, which makes for very little space to even move around. I can't imagine 6 adults sleeping up there. - If you are disabled or elderly, you will not be able to enjoy the creek in the back as one must navigate a steep vertical slope down/up. And, I mean steep! - While the cabin is set up to sleep a hand full of people, the size is truly for no more than 2 - even three would be pushing it. - As we didn't stay, I can't really comment on the kitchen (it "appeared" adequate) or the condition/comfort of the beds. We wanted to get away from it all, not be sharing our time with the neighbors next door and not be able to enjoy the creek and surrounding woods. Suffice it to say, people do not pack up with 2 large dogs, fill up with gas (which is not cheap these days), and travel for several hours only to turn around and leave. While we were offered to try another cabin, we declined in that we really didn't want to deal with folks who had been so deceptive from the get go and continued to place the blame on us since we didn't investigate the property on Google Maps. Really!!! We were offered a 50% refund, of which we only received a portion. We should have been refunded 100% for the pet fee charge and the arm load of fire wood we purchased, plus an error in their math when initially charging us. As far as I'm concerned, we should have been refunded for every penny.
