It was such an interesting experience. In the middle of nowhere lol. We woke up to an amazing sunrise with Seneca Rocks view!!!!! It was so quite and beautiful. Yokum's Vacationland is a quite nice place to stay. Lady was amazing! She booked us a room over the phone 5 minutes before they closed. We were able to self check in at 11:30 pm! Appreciate it Overall opinion: cozy family-operated place (there is also a store downstairs) I'd recommend it for 1-2 nights if you want to get away from your daily busy life. read more

Just returned from a family getaway in the middle of a surprise snowstorm in April. We stayed in family cabin N3. My family of 9 had plenty of space. Great views of Seneca Rocks and the surrounding mountains. Lots of great WV scenery within short driving distance. I seriously don't understand how this place has such bad reviews. My girlfriend and I stayed her for three nights in 2011 and then two nights this past week and we couldn't be happier! The cabin was cozy with a great view overlooking the river. The cabinets were filled with clean dishes and silverware so you could cook and eat any meal you wanted to. The sheets and blankets were clean and there were plenty of clean towels in the bathroom. They have soap and paper towels by the sink so cleaning the dishes you use was easy. They even came by the second afternoon we were there to check if we needed any towels or extra pillows. The first day we made our way down to the yokums store to have an earl lunch before we headed out for the day. The food was delicious and all the staff that was working was very friendly towards us the entire time we were there. That night we built a fire (they have wood outside but since it had been raining for a week we had to buy a dry bundle from the store) and cooked smores while we watched a movie that was on cable. The TV isn't huge but your really shouldn't be spending your time watching tv with so much outdoor activities you have all around you. The area is gorgeous and as for the people who said there was nothing to do in the area they obviously have no idea what they're talking about. The first day we made our way up to Seneca caverns (we went to smoke hole caverns down the rd in 2011 and it was also great). We then made our way to dolly sods wilderness for a few hours and finally drove to a town called Davis where we ate at hellbenders burritos (one of my favorite restaurants we go to a lot when snowboarding at timberline) then we made our way to the next small town Thomas were we caught a local show at the purple fiddle and had one of the best milkshakes I've had in a long time (all their ice cream is made locally with locally sourced dairy). The following day we were greeted with beautiful blue skies and a sun we hadn't seen in days which made the day perfect for a hike to the top of Seneca rocks. But before that we made our way to the yokums restaurant to check out of our room and have breakfast. Once again we were greeted with smiles and kind employees. We had delicious fresh Cooked omelets and juice and were amazed at how cheap the bill was for the amount of food we got. (Coming from northern Virginia we would have paid double at a local breakfast joint.) We will continue to stay at yokums for as long as they're in business. Unfortunately while we were there we heard Mrs. Yokum will be selling the place so hopefully it doesn't change with new ownership. Ya you may not get giant flat screen TVs and super fancy cabins but you really don't need all that here. Unless of course you don't plan on actually enjoying what the local nature has to offer you. But if you want a comfy place to sleep and relax, after a long day of outdoor activities in the Seneca rocks area, that won't break the bank. Our car club visited Yokum's Vacationland the weekend of Nov 6th 2010. Had the area as a whole offered other arrangements We'd have likely gotten a refund and stayed elsewhere. The only redeeming quality about Yokum's Vacationland was that the people were exceedingly pleasant. The owner - an octogenarian and very sweet woman - Shirley, speaks with every person within earshot to tell them how she and her husband of 70 years built the place from the ground up. Perhaps at one time it was a nice little get away hotel. But in 2010 it is 30 yrs past its prime and in need of a good razing. It is within 25 feet of a main road where 18 wheelers buzz by in front of the door all night long.. The room furniture is dated, unmatched, local flea market fair the sort you might have found along the curb in your own neighborhood - 20 years ago. One of 3 lights in the room were operational - the ceiling lights were double bare bulb. The towels and wash cloths were stained, threadbare, and mismatched. The toilet Did Not Work... upon flushing it leaked at the wax seal, and took a full 20 minutes to refill. The hot water heating system was remotely controlled from another building, completely beyond the control of the visitor and a complete eyesore. See photos - There was a sign in the room that read "You have 20 minutes after entering the room to complain ." The only thing not visibly evident in this run down "Bates Motel" of a place was black mold - One health inspection would likely close the place PERMANENTLY! Thanks for the free wifi. I bought a Coke for the courtesy of allowing me and my gf to get un-lost. Much appreciated. I did not avail myself of the "monster log" dropping opportunities aforementioned by Brian in 2017. However, "badly needed piss" was availed. Since anywhere other than my pants would've counted as a victory, this was a very clean bathroom indeed. Next time I will go for the burger/monster log combo. read more

This review is for the Teepees. Me and my boyfriend came with 3 other friends. We stayed in Teepee 3. I am a newbie camper having only gone camping once before. This will be a long review but if you, like me, like to research about a spot first to plan then it will be worth the read. Pros: -It is very affordable, I honestly did not know what to expect with the price point being 25 dollars per night. I found it to be pleasant in most aspects. -Each teepee and bunkhouse gets a picnic table and a small firepit out front, nothing fancy just a circle of rocks, but it was nice and warm. Perfect for toasting marshmallows! -Teepee was surprisingly roomy for a couple! 12 feet in diameter, it fit our queen size air mattress and had room all around -There is a wall outlet that you can attach a heater to, since we went in November, this is an absolute must! -There is a 3 minute walk to some pretty decent bathroom facilities. I definitely anticipated an outhouse when friend said we were going camping and was pleasantly surprised to find heated bathrooms with showers! -There is a shared area in between the bunkhouses and the teepees that allow for cooking it has lights and a small grate to put over the brick to make a cooktop. -Across the road is Seneca rocks and waking up to it was beautiful. Short fun uphill hike which was difficult but not impossible for a 200+ lb. woman -Parking can be literally right next to the teepee, this is great since you do not have to lug stuff in! -There is a water spigot next to the cooking area that is convenient. Cons: -Teepee 3 has a VERY SHORT door. You have to squat each time to get in, this makes getting stuff in the door slightly more difficult. All other teepees do not have this problem so I would recommend calling for reservation and not doing online. Call and you can request which teepee you get. We called to get two teepees together and did not know this was an issue -There was exposed screws on the door and my boyfriend actually cut his finger since it is where you would hold the door to get out. - I came at 10:30 at night and although they leave a map if you are directionally challenged like me you WILL GET LOST even with the map. I did not have the map but luckily my boyfriend and his best friend came to search for me. It is pitch black and there is absolutely NO RECEPTION. -Small issue we fixed with a trash bag: window has no cover so if you like privacy just bring something to cover it, and maybe some tape. Overall, I had a great experience and only wish I had more time to check out some caves in the area and some of the other activities. If you are going in colder times, like we did, I strongly recommend bringing extra blankets, the ground is cement underneath and gets VERY COLD. Bring flashlights! The customer service at the front was very nice both when I called and when I got there for check in and check out. They are willing to do late check in and will put your stuff in a box in the front. There is NO RECEPTION, free wifi outside the store. Only reason not 5 stars was the screws cutting my boyfriend and the size of the door. I will probably come back and I do recommend it especially if you want to camp but not "rough it" too much read more

Reviewing the motel room over the store and restaurant. This is a 2 star motel, worn, with minimal amenities, sited alongside a noisy road. Nevertheless, it's possible to enjoy a 4 star experience at Yokum's. The scenery is unforgettable, with a spectacular view from the motel porch. It's within 20 miles of wonderful nature spots, including Dolly Sods and Spruce Knob. The general store is well-stocked. The fresh dough pizza next door is pretty good. If you are in the motel, expecting to make use of the kitchenette, you need to bring your own pans, plates, silverware, even coffee mugs. (Insert frowny face here.) Shampoo is in little ketchup-type packets that you won't be able to open with wet hands. You may want to bag your recyclables to haul away. The fake teepees are metal on a concrete slab, with no A/C. However... the cabins look nice and are well back from the road, along a lovely creek. If you're looking for luxury, or even the Holiday Inn Express, move on. If what you really want is to have nature at your doorstep, Yokum's can deliver that. read more

Let me tell you something, Yokums has the most bomb bacon cheeseburger within a 30 mile radius. Stroll to the back of the store to the ordering window and the warm and welcoming kitchen staff will fire you up a nice thick piece of ground beef with some good old American cheese and some of that crispy salty ass bacon. The fries are a local secret and will take you're whole experience to the next level. The bathroom facilities are more than adequate if you feel the need to drop a monster log afterwards. read more

Okay, I am going to ask you to keep an open mind. I have rented the cabins in the past (6 years ago), and they were fine for a rustic little camping trip. The bathrooms were kind of on their last legs but you could don some flip flops and I promise - YOU WILL survive the experience. This visit, we were a little terror-shaken by the reviews and made other sleeping arrangements. They will get it together and then we will be back. Until that happens, we will stick to renting their awesome pavilion. It is perfect for a family reunion! We had about 50 or so attend and there was adequate seating (6 large picnic tables) and electric outlets all around the perimeter on the support beams. Bathrooms for men and women that were rusty and worn but adequately flowing with hot and cold running water. Even offers showers...again...FLIP FLOPS PEOPLE!!! WEAR THEM for the love of GOD! The cost of the pavilion was $50 for the day. Very reasonable in my opinion. THE BONUS... the wonderful North Fork of the Potomac river that flows gentle and shallow so the kids can dip their toes, hunt for creatures, etc. It also has a huge field to play games. We posed for family pictures there and really LOVED the famous Seneca Rocks backdrop! There is a small grill...ehhh...bring your own for now. Maybe they will update them. FOR now just enjoy the roomy lighted pavilion, the gentle trickling river and picturesque backdrops for your photos! And of course the fellowship of your friends and family. We plan on making it an annual event. We ALL enjoyed the Facility! read more

This review is for the convenience store of Yokum's Vacationland. We made a rest stop on our way to our holiday destination on Snowshoe Mountain and did some grocery shopping for the first couple of days. The store was clean and had a fairly large range of products. The offer of fresh fruits and vegetables was limited, though. We have seen this in other stores and markets in West Virginia as well. The best of Yokum are the people! They were very friendly and helpful in giving directions. Even greater, they collected and stored our toddler's boots, after they saw them falling of the roof of our car when we left. On our way back home, we stopped by to retrieve the boots. For some reason, the people in the store couldn't find them, but promised to send the boots to us by mail as soon as they located them. Yesterday, the boots arrived in the mail. We are very grateful for the expressed thoughtfulness, kindness, and generosity. We would like to recommend everyone to make a stop at Yokum's and meet its wonderful people. read more

Which motel you get is critical at Yokums. I've stayed at the motel above the general store, and the motel next to the restaurant. If you just need a bed to sleep in, either will do. Above the general store is better - not the Marriott, closer to Comfort Inn. It is clean, there is a little kitchenette, and everything works. I usually bring my own pillows. 2 stars when considering all of the other hotels in which I've stayed, 3 stars considering it's the best option within 30 miles. The motel next to the restaurant is a dump. NO water pressure in the showers, whether or not the toilet works is anyone's guess. Even after a hard day climbing or hiking this is pushing it - you're better off at the campground. 1 star only if you have no other option. read more

For New Years Eve weekend this year 10 friends and I decided to rent out one Yokums log cabins and get out of the city for the weekend. The cabin was N 3. It had 2 bedrooms (each had a full size bed) and a loft that had another full size bed and 4 single beds. The cabin also has a fire place and a 6 person hot tub on the deck. The cabin itself, is just that, made of wood and with no insulation, it got hot and cold very quickly. In fact, one of our friends upstairs spilled a drink and the drink spilled through the floor and down on the person sleeping below. The Cabin itself is located in the heart of Seneca Rocks WV. Although the area is very pretty, there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do, AND there is no wifi or even cell phone service. The only thing we found to do during the day was either go rock climbing , or tour the local caverns. Having nothing to do wasn't necessarily a bad thing. We brought plenty of food, drinks and games to keep us more then entertained. The Good 1. If you want to get away from it all...this is a great place to come there is 0 cell coverage or wifi for miles! 2. Fantastic vale. The price to rent the cabin came to $560 and split between 10 people for an entire weekend, was dirt cheap. 3. Great for larger groups, families that are looking for a cheap get away 4. Loved the hot tub on the deck 5. Cabin is fully furnished with plates and (some) linens. 6. Extremely dark at night so great for star gazing The Bad 1. Although the price was very cheap, the owners actually quoted me allot less on the phone. They had told me $447. I didn't mind paying more because it was so cheap, but to give out one price and then charge something different is very unprofessional. When I asked about it, the lady literally bit my head off and said "well dear I don't know who told you that, but that's NOT what it is" 2. The Management at this place is terrible. You go to a front office and the people you have to interact with are not very pleasant. No smiles, no welcome, just pay and leave. Definitely not the type you could ask questions of. 3. The log cabin could have been cleaner when we arrived. It looked like whoever cleaned it didn't really do a great job. 4. Extremely small TV that is mounted so high, its hard to watch it. 5. The linens and blankets they provided were super small and thin. Good thing we brought all our own blankets, pillows and towels. 6. Beds are not very comfortable 7. Although the hot tub on the deck is definitely a plus, it really smelled strongly of bleach and I'm beginning to wonder how often they actually switch out the water. This place is great for the value, but personally, if I had to do this over again I think I would've spent a bit more money and rented a nicer cabin elsewhere. I would recommend this place for families and larger groups looking for a great value for the cost, however if you actually care about quality, this is DEFINITELY not the place for you. read more

It would inconvenient if it didn't exist at all: Seneca Shadows is clearly a much better campground, but it doesn't have enough capacity for everyone coming out to Seneca and it closes in the fall. Bathrooms were grimy and lacked paper towels or hand driers. I can only give the campground 1 star, which is a real shame for the real estate that the campground occupies. Our site backed up the the river, with a small path that the kids could follow and swim. It was shaded and fairly level. We were a short walk to the pavilions and the bathrooms. There was a large field for the kids to ride bikes and play games. There was also amazing views of Seneca Rocks. With all of this, how can I only give it 2 stars? Well, let's start with the hotel and cabins at the entrance to the campground. All the buildings were abandoned and falling quickly into disrepair. Broken windows, roofs falling in - the place was a dump. Next, the large field in the campground: In the middle were piles of mattresses that had been set on fire (classy), and a playground set that was literally a pile of lumber. There was also a swing set that looked like it would collapse at any minute. The pavilion was fine but needs a fresh coat of paint and some cleaning. The bathrooms, however, were some of the nastiest I have ever been in. The toilets looked to have not been cleaned in many years; the stalls were rotting and falling apart; there was a utility closet that had some animals living in it (feral cats or racoons maybe); the showers were beyond disgusting; every morning a steady stream of people not staying in the campground came in to use it. We only drove through the Indian princess campground, but honestly, it looked worse than the one we stayed at. The teepees were the most absurd looking things I have ever seen. The bottom line is Yokums either needs new ownership or it needs to close. There is amazing potential to create a really incredible camping experience, and I remember loving this campground 20 years ago, but this place is a complete dump now. Until they can begin to care about their business again, stay at the lovely and very well maintained Seneca Shadows campground. read more

This review is for the Rv campground, which may or may not be the same situation as the other facilities, But when the office has no clue how many camping sites are available and you aren't able to reserve a site no matter how far you drive to get there on a chance at getting a spot, you should know it's not managed the way it should be. The area for camping seemed mowed regularly and they make sure you get a chance to buy firewood but the bath houses are pretty awful. Probably haven't been updated or fixed since the 80's. Subpar camping facility, definitely try to camp elsewhere if possible. read more

I will leave one star for the actual location of cabins....right in between Seneca Cavern & Smoke Hole. We were having a wonderful vacation in West Virginia, that is until we checked into Yokum's Cabin 22. I was quoted the cabin would be $100....I gave a $60 deposit weeks before & then was told I owed $100 @ check-in. Taxes, miscellaneous blah blah blah. We asked for an 11am checkin & I called 2x to make sure that was on & was told yes. As soon as we got inside we noticed how dirty the cabin was. After using the bathroom that was filled with rust rings & bugs, I went to use a towel & realized they were all damp. Were they from last people who stayed there & left their makeup on coffee table? I guess I'll never know but trust & believe when I say we didnt use them. So we left to go on our adventures. When we returned home we started giving the place a closer look....The sheets in our room were inside out & filthy with long & short black hairs covering it. We also saw at least 2 cockroaches scurry about....we would have called the office that was down the road but no cell service or an actual phone in cabin. The fake plastic decor was literally sticky & stuck to the tables. We would have loved to go sit on our deck overlooking a nice creek, but the deck was literally falling apart & sloping off the hillside. Maybe the other non pet cabins are nicer but this was a house of horrors! read more

Cabins need a big update, cruddy shower, toilet and jacuzzi. Stayed only about 18 hours long enough to sleep and get out. Cabins close to main road, traffic all night zooming by. When we checked out the girl said she understood and didn't really know if our cabin had been cleaned since the other people left. I have never written an online review, let alone a negative one, but do not want anyone to experience what we did. On a long road trip, we were stopping in WV on our way to Washington DC and Yokum's seemed to be perfectly situated. We arrived shortly after 7 and expected to have dinner in their "restaurant", which was a rundown old restaurant which had one employee that was answering phones, taking reservations, waiting on tables and cooking. At no point in any of those activites did she was her hands before cooking our meals, but we were going with it. I went to the ladies room and saw that brown water was running from the taps and in the toilets so we bought bottled water before heading to our cabin. We drove passed the "cabin" a few times before realizing that the run down houses along the road were our destination. A bag of garbage sat outside the front door (was it cleaned in between visitors, not likely). We opened the door to a swarm of flies- I am not exaggerating in any way- and the scratching of a rodent. I closed the door, went back and got a refund and drove an hour away to try to find a place to stay at 10pm. A horrible experience. read more
