My daughter is very selective and instead of picking those unspectacular floral places like 1-800-Flowers or Edible Arrangements, she decided on Station as her go-to for my Mother's Day floral arrangement delivery she set up from the West Coast. Since I hadn't gotten home from work, the arrangement made the journey and placed on a small wooden bench outside my walkway in mint condition. I know those dull floral online companies whip up "arrangements" quick and sometimes flowers may not even look their best once you finally get them- but Station, topped it! Although I've never visited Station- I can tell these folks will make any arrangement look effortlessly beautiful. Since my favorite flower is the Hydrangea, my daughter went with that as the focal piece and for a small vessel, the arrangement was grand indeed. These folks treated my arrangement as art and each flower surrounding the star of the show, added more of a creative feel. I personally felt the overall arrangement was light, airy, rich and dense. Since I am not from the area, I looked online for a florist within a block or two of a birthday party I was attending later that evening. Station Florist was the closest: "less than 0.1 miles away," according to google maps. I called at 4:25 - Google listed the store as closing at 5pm. First I asked if they had roses in stock - I told them I didn't want an "arrangement," just a vase and a dozen roses, or so... Something special for a birthday. They said YES. I then asked if they could please deliver the flowers since the restaurant was literally around the corner from them and I was far away. I never asked about cost - just that I needed the flowers to arrive by 6pm. The woman who answered very quickly said "NO." I was stunned. Really, I asked? She said, "we are closing in 30 minutes." I thought to myself, the restaurant is 2 minutes away, the flowers are sitting in your refrigerator and I don't care about cost - what is wrong with this picture? I thanked her for her time and assured her I would never call her again. In June, IBISWorld released their annual US Florist Industry report, entitled: "Withering Heights: Florists will struggle..." forecasting a further decline in 2019 for cut flower sales as well as the number of shops that will survive. Apparently, August also is the slowest month in flower sales overall. In the end, I'm glad Station Flowers said no, as the next closest florist, Scarsdale Village Florist, was absolutely incredible (2 dozen of the most beautiful roses and other flowers were promptly delivered and their customer service and attention to detail was superb, especially on a last minute request).
