I have never felt the need to write a review like this, but my experience at Staudt's Gun Shop on July 23-24, 2026, was unacceptable.
I went into the store on July 23 and made a $340.22 purchase (Sales #26-00000-13130). Joe Staudt, the owner, was there and personally helped with my purchase. He recommended a Crimson Trace light for my Smith & Wesson revolver.
I took the unopened light home and realized it wasn't compatible with my firearm frame. Since it was completely unopened, unused, and I had the receipt, I returned the next morning expecting a reasonable resolution.
Instead, I was met with an attitude that essentially amounted to: "We don't want it back."
I was pointed toward a "NO RETURN" policy. The problem? I did not see this policy clearly presented when I made my purchase. I asked for a store credit instead of a refund. That was also refused.
The solution I was given? Try selling it on eBay or through a local shooting club and take the loss.
Seriously?
I have 16 years of retail and customer-service experience, and I have never encountered customer service like this. I understand that businesses have policies. That's not the issue. The issue is how those policies are communicated and how customers are treated when they have a legitimate problem with an unopened product.
What makes this even more frustrating is that the product was purchased directly from this store, was never opened or used, and was being returned with the receipt the very next morning.
At that point, it felt less like customer service and more like "We already have your money, so you're on your own."
And that's especially concerning when you consider elderly customers, people who may not be familiar with firearms terminology, or immigrants who may have difficulty understanding English. My parents are immigrants themselves and speak broken English. A business should make its policies crystal clear--not rely on customers discovering them only after they've spent their money.
I am not asking for special treatment. I am asking for basic transparency, reasonable customer service, and accountability.
A business can have a no-return policy. Fine. But customers should know that policy BEFORE they hand over their money--not after they come back with an unopened product and a receipt.
I walked into this store as a customer willing to spend my hard-earned money. I walked out of this situation feeling like my business--and my concerns--simply didn't matter.
$340.22 spent. Unopened merchandise. Receipt in hand. Returned the next morning. No refund. No store credit. No meaningful attempt to resolve the situation.
That's my experience, and unfortunately, I will not be returning to Staudt's Gun Shop or recommending them to others.
