Hello, so this post may be TMI - so if you aren't into that, keep scrolling and just look at the 5 stars ~ I am a light skinned black women w/ very coarse curly hair. My private area hairs HATE being waxed. I always end up getting ingrown hairs after a wax. I have had nothing but issues with waxing, even after visiting European Wax Center. Once upon a time I lived in Atlanta and would get waxes from Andreas, but I no longer live there. STRAVROULA, the waxer, was the absolute best. She works in the basement of a hair salon, but the wax room is clean and tidy. I told her I don't usually wax because of getting ingrown hairs. I was only getting a bikini wax, so she gave me a pair of disposable underwear. I thought that was great and professional. I told her I wanted to try the Sugar wax, as I had read about it, and wanted to try it out. She tried the sugar wax on me and the sensitive skin wax on me. She would use the different waxes for different parts of my skin. She payed attention to me, engaged in conversation and the wax did not hurt as much as I thought. The pain level was about the same with other waxes that I have had. After the wax, my skin was very bumpy and red, but within the next few hours that went away. I wanted to write a review the day I got the wax, but decided to wait because my issues usually pop up AFTER the wax with ingrown hairs, but I can say 1 week later, my extended bikini line is still bump free. I will ONLY be going to STRAVOULA and actually look forward to getting another before my next vacation. Side bar: I always HATE how people who wax you, tell you to come more often to reduce the pain and the amount of hair and I really think that is a myth and a way for the shop to make more money. At European Wax Center they always try and make you buy a package to save $X.00 over time and they wax you so fast, there is no personal touch. I feel that they only care about profits. I felt that Stravoula actually cared about my skin and wanted me to have a great experience. I do not hate EWC, but they are both near eachother and one is franchise, while the other is a small business owner who has been doing this sort of work for 20+ years. I mean she can be nice/have good conversation. And she do a gentle job extracting, the incorporated massage was decent but weak and sloppy, and the session was relaxing, but she didn't massage the hands, just the arms, and it was just clunky/awkward massaging the shoulders. The room was rinky dinky. And she had a rude tone in her voice when I genuinely asked about why she switched up the routine. I already decided before going that I was switching to a different spa, but now I am DEFINITELY switching. I guess you get what you pay for. Oh and she left leftover dried up mask product on my face after the last facial. And said she cleared up all my blackheads, when I had a whole jaw line and cheek full of them. Did she not see them under the bright light?? I don't get it. They're clearly black and white and obviously there. I'm confused, genuinely. read more

Stacy gives the absolute BEST facials -- I highly recommend her! She's also very friendly, and she's clearly an expert on skincare and at providing her clients with a high-end, relaxing experience. Her salon is located on the lower level inside a Dellaria salon, and the atmosphere she's created is cozy, inviting, and very peaceful. I began going to Stacy for facials back in 2006 when I was struggling with frequent breakouts. I didn't mean to take a trip to Brazil with my first time getting a pro wax job, but I'm apparently very easy to convince when lying on a table with my nethers exposed to a stranger. All of that to say, I feel like a baby. But--it was relatively painless, quick, and reasonably priced. As a first timer, I can say I was honestly expecting it to be much, much worse. And that's about the best thing you can say about someone you've just met pouring wax on your you-know-what and ripping. The only downside is that the space is not aesthetically delightful. It's clean and all, but it is a basement. You know...a scented candle or some Enya would have helped push this to 5 star territory. read more

first time here and i enjoyed it!! got a brazilian and everything came out fresh and clean. she was really meticulous when waxing, and was nice and calming, despite how nervous i was. i would definitely come here again. the spa is at the back of the hair salon. go into the hair salon and in the way back left past the shampoo area, its downstairs with just a couple rooms. it is probably for the salon to do their towel laundry or what not, but im not sure. either way, the service here i think is great and i would recommend it! take advantage of the deals they might have online. i wonder if they have a package deal for students or anyone for a great discount. i know european wax center (right across the street) has packages for a great deal, but definitely want to come here instead if there was a package. deal. read more

I really like this place! I just went for the first time and Terry worked with me for a bikini wax, eyebrow, and lip, as well as a facial and a pedicure. She is very sweet and easy to spend time with. The facial was the best I ever had as she was very attentive and didn't push any products on me. The prices were very reasonable, and they have student discounts, which is why I settled on this place to begin with. The waxing was very good and not too painful. The pedi was decent. I've gotten two facials with Stacy, the owner. She works some magic! I always leave glowing which lasts a few days. My skin feels clean and refreshed. I have trouble with clogging but she really takes her time to get everything out. She doesn't push products. She will talk to you only as much as you want. She definitely tailors the facial using her expertise and doesn't stick to any default program. She gives you what your skin needs on that day. Price is unbeatable especially for the student facial. Spa is very clean and relaxing but you have to walk thru Dellaria's hair salon to get there. Giving 4 stars instead of 5 because I have felt she left me alone too long with the mask. I had my eyebrows waxed by Terry. She was super-friendly, funny, and really good at what she does. I love my eyebrows now! She gave them a great shape. It was not that painful either, as far as waxing goes. I got the student discount for $15 and I was able to charge the wax and the tip on my debit card, which made paying for things very convenient. Recently moved from Miami to Jamaica Plain and I must admit that Ive been to so many extremely high end salons and spas and none of them compare to Stacy's services at Skin Care by Stavroula. The 1 1/2 hour Oxygen facial is absolutely AMAZING!, she definitely knows what she's doing when it comes to pampering. This place is a buried treasure inside the Dellaria Salon in Coolidge Corner. I have lived in this area for many years and only learned about it from Yelp! They do all the spa services- facials, mani / pedis, waxing, and usually run special deals ( this month they have chocolate facials or mano/ pedis...how cool is that). It has a casual atmoshere, and although it is in a basement it is clean and nicely decorated. I went there for waxing and Terry was friendly, funny, quick and did a great job. It is hidden in a basement of Coolidge Corner, so unless you walk into the salon, you would never know the existence of this little gem. I was a bikini wax virgin when I first visited. Needless to say, I was quite nervous. However, Stacy was friendly and she talked to me the whole time to calm/distract me. Incredibly, the experience was almost painless. I've been back a couple more times, and I highly recommend Stacy. Her work is consistent and she doesn't always charge the standard charge. She charges accordingly to the job done. I will never go to another place for my brazillian! While of course it's relative, Mona worked pure magic on me the other day. It had been a while, so my hair was thick, and I needed to have the root taken out (tends to be a bit more painful than just a maintence wax). She made me feel instantly comfortable and calm, which is huge for keeping as relaxed as possible. She did a beautiful job with minimal discomfort. I love this place! I originally started going here to get my eyebrows done and found that is was virtually painless. I can say that there have been numerous times where I have almost fallen asleep on the table because its just that relaxing and pain free. I've seen both Stacy and Terry and both are great and they can almost always fit you in for an appointment. Today though I thought I would get a bikini wax seeing as how I'm going on vacation in a week. I booked my appointment with Terry as shes been the one I see most often. I went in feeling a little over confident though. I had only gotten a bikini wax one other time over the summer but it was at Mini Luxe on the other end of Harvard St. When I went there I was scared sh**less to say the least, however the process wasn't as bad as I had though, but still painful. Although it wasn't that bad, I left with extremely raw bright red skin with little bumps everywhere, and the pain only seemed to get worse as the day went on. Needless to say I didn't do much the next few days after that. When booking my appointment with Terry I explained what had previously happened and she made me feel more relaxed and comfortable about getting it done. The first difference is that Skincare by Stavroula uses a sugar wax, not a soft or hard wax. The difference is that sugar wax only adheres to the hair NOT the skin, unlike soft or hard wax (which they had used at Mini Luxe). Terry walked me though the whole thing and made me feel comfortable throughout the whole process letting me know what to do and when things would really hurt. I had forgotten to take ibuprofen before hand to help ease the pain but it wasn't as bad as before. Yes, it was painful, there's no avoiding that, however, when I left I was in much less pain than my previous bikini wax experience and nowhere near as red and I don't have any bumps this time around. I've only taken two ibuprofen since then and feel fine. Yes it is a little tender but that's expected. I do have a few left over hairs but Terry was kind enough to tell me to come back in sometime in the next week and she would fix it up. It is a quiet, serene place that takes you away from the hustle of the world. It is meticulously clean. I had another awesome facial this evening. It is a healthy, relaxing experience. i also love this place...i can't remember who did my waxing -- i know it wasn't stavroula, but it was a redheaded woman who was fabulous. ive gone here twice for bikini waxes, only my first and second, and needless to say, i was TERRIFIED for my first one...i was going on vacation so i knew it would be worth it, but it sounded terribly, horribly painful. luckily for me, i told her i was a bikini wax virgin, and she made me feel very comfortable and relaxed. she told me how to help her make it easier on me, she was quick, and it really wasn't as bad as i was expecting. very much worth it for a two week vacation in bathing suits. id definitely recommend stavroula's for this type of, um, "awkward" waxing. read more

I've been here about half a dozen times and do so because they're fairly inexpensive (a regular bikini wax goes for $25) considering the other options in the Coolidge Corner/Boston area and they're close by. They're located in the basement of the Dellaria salon, and it's accessed by walking into Dellaria and going down the stairs at the back of the salon. They only accept cash as tips (the cost of the service can be charged to a credit card), so be sure to bring some for that reason. Stacy and Terry are the only two that work there and as a result it's often difficult to get someone on the phone because they're busy providing services. A receptionist would be nice. I've received treatment from them both, and I think they've managed to be on time once. During the other visits they've been 5-30 minutes late despite my setting an appointment every time. And with no one to ask (and no one to answer the phone), it's pretty frustrating to sit in their waiting room for 30 minutes and hope they're simply running late and that they didn't forget you. During one visit Stacy was unaware that I had an appointment at all - it seemed as if she never checked her appointment book for the day (once she did, she saw I was there). They do not call to remind of services even though I've asked and they agreed. There is no place to hang/place your clothes or belongings in the bathroom, which is inconvenient if you have to change. Otherwise the two women are nice, and if someone is available to greet you, they often offer and get you water. The regular bikini waxes are often uneven; half of my visits I get off the table and realize they missed a spot; and I have to ask them to check for ingrown hairs (I can't see where they can!). They don't do any careful checking to make sure none of those are the case (perhaps I got spoiled at my salon back home and I shouldn't be expecting those things). It'd be nice if they gave a minute to hop off the table and take a look and check-in to see if everything was all set. By the time I have checked, they're no where to be easily reached, and I've to get dressed and go get them if I want to mention anything. One or two of a number of little changes would bump this place up to four stars for me (someone available to answer the phone at all times, a check-in post waxing to make sure everything was all set, a chair in the bathroom, accepting tips on a credit card, a reminder call about the appointment). Putting up with what I dislike about this place is worth it to save the $10-$25 more that I'd spend elsewhere in the area. read more
