Easy street parking on a random week day with AC/DC blasting. It seemed more like a watering hole than a restaurant, but the menu was by the register. I don't know if they had table service. I ordered the ribs with a side of collards and the salad. Sadly when I got home, the collards did not make the bag so I won't give them five stars. But the ribs were amazing and they hit the spot. This was a hole in the wall that a few coworkers and I stopped by to visit. You can smell the bbq from around the block. It's spacious and would be a fun place to hit for Gameday or before a Cal game. I didn't get to snag a good pic since I was a little embarrassed to do so in front of my coworkers but the Italian sandwich was fat and delicious. My coworker got the brisket sandwich which looked like it was on toasted sliced bread. All the sandwiches sound good and the prices are fair since these are bigger sandwiches. If you like a punch of flavor, pickled vibes, with yummy meats, this is the sandwich for you. Their mac n cheese is flavorful and has seasoning! I love this place! I always get a side of beans to go. I really like that they have pinball and an outdoor area to relax or bring a friend.

I enjoyed the barbecue ribs very much, tender and flavorful. One order gave me five meaty pieces, more than enough for my husband and me.

I like the location, menu, food, facility and outdoor patio. I don't like the service. I've been there several times and employees arnt nice or even polite and there's been times when I've been standing there at the counter for several minutes clearly waiting for service but being ignored by workers who arn't busy. by far the best barbecque I've had in the Bay Area in many years. I haven't had it this good since the old Lily's Da Pit on Divisadero in San Francisco. the ribs were well seasoned, the meat was amazing, the cooking was great (super tender and easily falling off the bone). sauces were great, sides were great. Let me start with I love a good dive bar. Now marry the dive bar feel with quality bbq and a top notch deli and you have a new big fan. Been twice and staff is always chill, had some soccer on for lunch and they know how to pour a cold beer. First time, I had the Italian sando. Came with the perfect amount of meat, pepper relish, pepperonchini and herb dressing on that po'boy roll had me crying tears of joy. Next time, had to check the bbq side of the house so I got the Epic sando and it was damn good. All the meats were on point and the cherry pepper/coleslaw mix gave it a good balance. After hearing about the tragedies that happened here, a few of my coworkers and I decided to spend a lunch here to support the business. This is my second time eating here! I always opt for the BBQ brisket sandwich. It's flavorful, soft, and filled with meat. You can't go wrong. The beans are also really good! Didn't order it myself but someone at my table did and I got to nibble. Everyone loved the beans. While in my opinion it's not Horns BBQ, Stay Gold can hold its own. There's tons of beer selection and I've heard that there are events hosted here. Neighborhood is not the best so just be weary of your car and your surroundings! read more

I am always looking for a new barbecue place to try and was happy to run across Stay Gold here on Yelp. Located on a corner, the inside is roommate with both tables and some bar seating. The patio outback has plenty of picnic tables to spread out and enjoy the fresh air. There is an extensive menu, making it difficult decision what to choose first. I figured starting with the basics was a good way to go and order the beef brisket sandwich with a side of beans. The food arrived promptly and I must say, the sandwich was enormous with plenty of meat and a good mix of coleslaw and pickles. The pimento cheese was a nice addition. The bread roll held up very well, keeping everything together until the last bite. The beans had a good flavor, with just a slight bit of spice. I wish there were more beans in the mix, but overall it delivered on flavor. Working that day was Darren, showing positive vibes, enthusiastic service, and some good looks. Stay Gold also has a good selection of beers on tap, as well as bottles and cans; certainly enough options for most to enjoy a cold drink with their meal. My first visit at Stay Gold Deli was surprisingly delicious! The pork ribs were so tender the meat was literally sliding off the bone. I found their ribs to be heavily seasoned, yet tender and flavorful at the same time. I used the slices of bread to absorb some of the excess seasoning, anyways. The ribs were so righteous it didn't need the mild BBQ or tangy, mustard sauce. The Brisket slices was served just the way I like it: fatty, yet moist and juicy. It may be "fatty" for typical customers, so I'd recommend requesting for a "lean" option (if possible). The Mac n' Cheese wasn't made up of a complex blend of ingredients. It seemed basic but the tender, medium shells were tossed in the right amount of creamy cheddar goodness. The Texas Beans hosted a thin, tomato-base with a blend of kidney beans and some chopped brisket. It lacked a creamy or thick-ketchup texture and I was surprised that this side dish looked like a bowl of watered-down BBQ soup! However, the dry-quality of the kidney beans helped to cleanse the palate from the excess oil. This side dish also packed some mild heat! It was an interesting take on beans and I still enjoyed this dish. I spent about $25 for this 2-way combo and I thought I got my money's worth. I'd definitely go back! read more

Could barely find anywhere to park. In a very dilapidated part of West Oakland. Walked in and was greeted by a dumpster in the outdoor seating area and flies when I walked. I saw on their menu on yelp and saw $11.99 for an Italian Sandwich although it was an old picture. I should've done more digging since I found out it was $16.99 upon ordering. I wanted it for takeout, and it was nicely wrapped for me. I thought to myself I should try it before I left. The picture is below is proof enough, but this sandwich was 70% peppers/lettuce and about 20% meat. I've had better Italian sandwiches for a lot lower of a price with more meat. The bread could barely hold the sandwich together as it fell apart. In other pictures I've seen they give ALOT of meat so I was confused. If you're looking for tender fall apart meat, Stay Gold is the place to be. For ambiance & cleanliness you won't see a Green Pass sign from the Public Health Dept. We had a variety of dishes & ordered a 4 piece BBQ plate & 2 sandwiches ( Riblet sandwich & Roast Beef w.Cheese). The 4 piece BBQ plate consisted of double portion of ribs, 1 order of pull pork & 1 order of brisket. All the meats were consistently tender, but as far as the Smokey flavor, I really didn't detect any. Out of the 3 meats, I favored the brisket which had a crispy edging to it. The ribs had cracked pepper & for that BBQ flavor you need to dip it BBQ sauce. For the last meat, pull pork, it nicely shredded & had a mild flavor to it. As far as sandwiches go, I really enjoyed the riblet. The coleslaw gave this sandwich a nice crunch & there was definitely no shortage of meat. Same goes for the roast beef & cheese sandwich. The tender & bountiful slices of beef really satisfies, I only wished they had melted the cheese. I really enjoyed my jalapeño sandwich! Spicy, a lot of meat on there. It feels like a at-home bbq garage setting. Their Mac and cheese is really shells and cheese but still good just don't expect the traditional baked crispy Mac. Yeah, the ribs were a little fatty, but they were juicy and tender. No dry, chewy meat.....or jerky on a stick. The beans were red kidney beans with pieces of meat, and a spicy sauce.
