Steak 'n Shake across from Texas Roadhouse
    Sam R.

Saturday, 8/20/2022 - Got to Indiana and decided to go have a Steak 'n Shake burger. We stopped at this location since it was on our way to the area we were staying at. I saw a Texas Roadhouse right across the street. There were plenty of parking. Staff here were very nice. You have to order from a kiosk. The two on the red counter are the kiosk you can use your card. The two kiosk by the window are the ones you can pay with cash. The gentleman behind the counter (he one of the cook), offer to help us with the kiosk should we need help. They do not do the traditional ordering where there's a staff member at the front desk with a cash register taking your order. Upon arrival: Pros: 1) large parking lot. 2) we got in and can pick anywhere to sit. There were no other patrons there. 3) the 2 gentleman behind the counter were nice. Cons: 1) the glass door to enter the restaurant was filthy. It sure needs some cleaning. 2) all the tables, counters, chairs, and floors were dirty. Red counter was caked with... I don't know. It was just dirty and sticky. 3) I had to wipe our own table for us to use. 4) while sitting on my chair, I happen to put both my hands on the bottom of the chair to help pull me forward to the table. Both my hands got super sticky from whatever gunk was on that chair. I felt grossed out. So went to the bathroom to wash my hands again. 5) the ordering kiosks were all dirty. You can't miss seeing all those finger prints on the screens. It was sticky. I grabbed one of their wet towelettes and wiped one of the kiosk screen down, dried it with their paper napkins before using the kiosk. 6) bathroom wasn't too clean. But wasn't bad. 7) the burgers and fries here aren't as good as other Steak 'n Shake I've been to. Fries were over cooked. Lots of fries that were hard and hallow inside.

I was just here went thru drive up. Had window rolled up and the lady started talking right away I couldn't hear her. I rolled window down and said what? She said I just shut the system down you'll have to come inside. I park my car and look up and there's 3 other cars in drive thru none of which seem to be turned away like I was. I go in. There are no cash registers anymore you just supposed to enter the order on a screen like at McDonald's. There are two kiosks to order instead of cash registers now. You can still see the fry line and the fry cook like always. I said why didn't those other cars get turned away? And the cook who is wearing matrix sunglasses trying to be Morpheus yanks out his earbud and says , oh she said that because we got a bunch of orders at the same time you pulled up. I reply, so the other people in drive thru are being helped right now and because of her I'm at the back of the line behind them now? To which I'm ignored and left to die. Honestly the tech grift / eco friendly grift to cut costs and screw consumers has come too far. Unacceptable. Probably mods will remove this review like they did for my Flatwater review for some incorrect rationale that equates to 'no more free speech for women' and I'll just take it to the chamber of commerce. Clowns: reap what you sow ;)

    20 mins later.... soooooo slow!
    Staci L.

If I ever get my food i might be able to give a different review. I've been in the drive through for over 20 mins. Sooo slow! Update: somehow my two for $8.99 became 13.00. My salad dressing cup was only half full.. and the fries were cold. I would pass on eating here ever again.

Ordered before the midnight closing time posted on the door and the 10:00 closing time the manager mentioned.

I will begin this review by saying that I completely understand everyone is short staffed right now. The only thing I ask is that people just do their job. This location shows that it's open here on Yelp, on the Steak N Shake website and it shows they close at midnight on the front door. We ordered food for our family of five on the app and it said that it would be ready in 13-18 minutes. We arrived and parked in the numbered spot as instructed. We called the number and nobody answered. We saw a few employees inside so I walked up to the door. A manager with glasses and a face piercing opened the door and told me that they were closed. Me: I placed an online order. Her: We're closed and it should not have let you place the order. Me: I think it let me because you're open until midnight, here's the online receipt. Her: You'll need to go wherever you ordered it and cancel it. Me: I ordered it from your app... Her: You can cancel it there. I went on the app and there's no place to cancel the order. Our card was already charged as well. Here's a screenshot showing the time that the order was placed (before the 10:00 closing time she had mentioned).

You have to order everything at a kiosk, only 1 of them works. Every single table was disgusting, this was after I wiped down the table. When another customer brought up the fact that all the kiosks were down except 1 they responded with "yeah we don't know why" and nobody tried to help the 4 other people in line

$2.54 single burger with free fries. Hot, thin, salted fries. Good
    Felicia C.

It's super affordable, and they had free fries with a purchase of a burger. So I got a single burger for $2.54 and got fries with it. Taste was not bad, it could get stale if I eat more of it, but fries were crispy, thin and salted well. Can't complain for a $2 meal.

I've always loved steak and shake for breakfast. But their late night dinner options are always right on time. Everything is always made fresh to order. The staff is always wonderful. There's usually not a 2ait at this particular one. My fave, the restrooms are always clean. I'm so addicted to the Frisco Melt, pancakes, and sausage egg & cheese breakfast tacos!

The drive thru operator might benefit from an in service in customer service and active listening. I didn't see a name badge - but he was wearing a shirt and tie - so that makes me think he may be the manager - which is even more concerning. I know it is fast food - but I have never felt so rushed when attempting to place an order. We were constantly interrupted and cut off. We should have said never mind and left- we won't be back.

Garlic Steakburger 'n Fries had the garlic spread on one that was selected to have that ingredient removed.
    Kayla D.

Will not return to this location. The cheese had a rubber taste and the Garlic Steakburger 'n Fries had the garlic spread on one that was selected to have that ingredient removed. The food left us feeling sick afterwards

Just nasty...why are buns sitting on the floor in the lower left corner of this pic?!?!?!

We started with the Angry Mac & Cheese, which we had never tried before, and wow -- it was phenomenal. The homemade cheese sauce was rich, creamy, and perfectly smooth without separating. The andouille sausage and shrimp were cooked beautifully, and the cream sauce had incredible flavor with just the right subtle hint of spice. Absolutely perfect comfort food with an elevated twist. We sat outside on the patio enjoying the beautiful weather during Indy 500 race week, and the atmosphere could not have been better. Every table around us was full of people laughing, enjoying lunch, and soaking in the energy of the city. It was one of those perfect Indianapolis afternoons. For our mains, we both ordered the Cobb salad -- one with grilled chicken and one with fried chicken -- and both were outstanding. I still can't believe how large the "small" salads are! Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and the homemade ranch dressing was absolutely delicious. The service, as always, was top-notch. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. From start to finish, it was such a fantastic lunch and overall experience. We loved every minute of it and cannot wait to come back!

Our server quickly greeted us and took our beverage orders...they carry only Pepsi soft drink products. She quickly returned beverages on tray, then took our orders. I opted for the Patty Melt along with a side of onion rings. The entrees arrived in the blink of an eye. My Patty melt and onion rings arrived fresh and hot. They even tasted great too! The hamburger patty was thick and juicy and cooked the way I'd prepare it myself. Portions were more than ample. After finishing my "feast" it was time for dessert, a Root Beer float, served in a tall larger glass with an ample portion of ice cream. I would suggest ordering it for two...it's that big. All enjoyed their burgers and we're looking forward to returning next year. * I purposely didn't review the other meals served, as they will be doing their own Yelp reviews.

Mac and Cheese: you can choose your own add on! I had bacon and caramelized onions added to mine. Poppers: very unique, had a chili cheese filling instead of cream cheese. Convenient location. Zero proof drinks. There were some reviews about long wait times, non-toasted buns and the cost but the write up of the place itself gave me nostalgia vibes for a place called Cobra Burger in Richmond, VA so I had to try my luck. I really wanted to love this place, as I've not found anything like Cobra Burger here in Indy. When we arrived, around 6:45p on a Thursday, the patio had a good amount of people, but inside was pretty empty apart from the bar. We sat at a two top in the bar area. The music was at a pretty low volume, especially considering the amount of reviews that said otherwise. Our server was also bartender, so it initially took her a couple of minutes to come over, which is understandable. She took our order for drinks and then after bringing them back for the food. She was nice and provided good service although juggling tables and the bar, plus she was also pregnant. It took a very long time for us to get our food (close to an hour), despite three guys working the line in the kitchen, banging out burger after burger. The food arrived, hot and correct. Both my husband and I were disappointed that the reviews were right and the burger buns were not toasted. Non-toasted burger buns actually make the burgers harder to eat and less enjoyable. My burger was decent for a non-handmade vegan option; for the price my expectation is amor sophisticated/handmade creative one, but I am thankful that they had a vegan option at all. My husband thought his burger was just okay and that he's had better ones around Indy, so we probably won't be dining here again. For the size of the burger, they should bring you ample napkins without having to ask because it is very messy trying to eat them. For two burgers with fries, one small mac & cheese, and three beers (one regular and two nonalcoholic) before tip the bill was over $80. Now, if the food was top-tier fantastic, I would say fine but being that it was more middle of the road it's a bit pricey.

Nothing aesthetically has changed in the decorations, it is still so cute and so pink in there. The food on the other hand was 100% better. After visiting at the end of January and ordered takeout in early February and was still so blown away at the quality and the care that was put in to even a take out order. The fries were phenomenal as well. They are pretty close to being shoelace fries and with the bowl you get two signature sauces of your choosing.
