I LIVE 5 MILES AWAY. I made a Gruhub order for a triple with ONLY onion, mayo, and pickle. INSTEAD I received a triple with pickle, ketchup, tomato, and lettuce. I hate ketchup. I also ordered a frisco melt for my wife. It was cold, toasted too dark, and very soggy. I also ordered a medium fries: they were cold and limp. I also ordered onion rings which, though too soft, tasted OK. I tried to call the restaurant SIX times, allowing 3-4 minutes of ringing, BUT NO ANSWER. I want a total refund for the nearly tasteless order, or credit, or a corrected order. We have eaten at Steak N Shake hundreds of times over the past 30 years. SO this was my first time ever eating with this chain and honestly, it was neither good nor bland. Nothing memorable about the food itself. I can't even tell you which burger I had, because I had tried my wifes completely different burger and it tasted exactly the same. Aside from the burgers, where this spot falls short is on french fries. Shoestring style fries can be delicious done by the right people, but unfortunately it wasn't done quite right here. Somehow though, this place has a miracle recipe for milkshakes because that milkshake was like what dreams are made out of. We haven't been to this location since pre-pandemic. In some ways it hasn't changed but it has in so many others. There's no longer wait staff involved. When you walk in you place your order for takeout or dine in at kiosk that they have available. Ordering is a very easy task. We were dining in and place their order and then went and sat at the table. There was one couple in the place and no one else. The wait for our food was considerably longer than I felt it should have been since there was no one else in the restaurant. Nearest I could tell there were only a couple of people working and back in the kitchen area and no one else. The food itself was pretty much what I remember it always being. The burger was good and the fries were excellent. I also enjoyed some onion rings even though they were a little greasier than I remember. My biggest problem was I ordered a combo and along with it I asked for a fountain drink because I realized they have Coke zero. Drinks are self-serve to limit how much contact there is. I waited till our food was ready and walked up to get it. I went to get my drink and had to inform the gentleman that there was no syrup in the Coke zero. He apologized and told me they were completely out. I don't see why they couldn't at least label the machine but again they are short staffed. The kiosk gives you no idea of whether they're out of something or not which is not helpful at all. Since I can't have any of the regular soda I just opted to get a bottle of water. Like all of their locations these days there is nothing really exciting about them and the food is the same as ever. If they don't make some changes they're never going to make it. It's a shame as they're not that bad. It's more that the brand is become a bit tired I think and just need some new blood. Even when most places were getting back on track, these people decided to do drive thru only. No biggie. My wife and I waited. THEN, I got a birthday email offering me a free burger and fries. WHOO HOOO. Let's go! We went inside around noon or so. There was 1 other table with 1 single customer eating. We were told to use some kiosk thing. I told the person at the door that I had a free burger and fries for my birthday. My wife proceeded to start her order on the kiosk. I showed the person at the door the email I got which had some code on it. She took the number down and went to the back. She came out a minute or so later and said that I needed some QR code. I didn't have a QR code. I had what they sent me in the email which was a number code. I had never had problems in the past years redeeming the coupon. She showed no interest in helping me any further. My wife and I left and I vow never to go back to Steak n Shake again. Some good did come out of it though. We arrived at 5:30 on a Friday evening and dinner was served by 6:05. Food: The burgers were good, french fries were just ok. They lose a star right off the bat by offering only kiosk ordering. To further complicate things, they have a stupid system where you have to scan your receipt every time you want a drink. I havent been to a Steak n Shake in years due to a previous experience, but Mom recieved a coupon for her Birthday and she was determined to go, even if she had to walk to her there. So we opted for the drive thru. We greeted immediately by a super friendly voice and we asked for a minute. While Mom was verbally deciding, the voice on the other side of the box asked if we needed any suggestions, which was sweet. Mom finally decided on the Reeses Peanut butter and chocolate shake and an order of tiny diminutive fries. Her favorite. When we pulled around we were greeted by a friendly young man who cashed us out and then u spied the face of the friendly voice. It was one of the managers who was happily making Moms shake. When she saw we had a Birthday coupon for the shake she asked whis Birthday ot was, in which proudly proclaimed it was hers! The manager and the other young man wished her a happy birthday and we were given our order. Mom's shake was so yummy, since I was given a taste of two and we were surprised to see our fries were seasoned, which was a tasty twist on a familiar favorite. The cooks and chef then make your food. What impressed me the most was the service was amazing. We have visited multiple Steak 'n Shake locations in cities throughout Florida over the years during repeated road trips between northern and southern Florida. It was so understaffed 8 tables remained uncleared for at least 75 minutes, the duration of our stay. Busing trays were shoved on bench seats, plates and cups piled high on tables, and when we were served they had no clean cutlery to offer. I don't want to think about the state of the kitchen. Kitchen was also very slow. We asked them to be honest about turn around times and they underestimated by half (said 20, took 40). Orders were repeatedly incorrect. I watched several customers get up and chase a waitress down for a correction and attention. My friend's burger also had no cheese. Overall, a dining disaster. Very sad for the brand. read more

It's rare that I take the time to review service at restuarant that has disappointed me. However having to sit through such a dreadful experience prompted me to do so. In an attempt avoid wasting anyone's time I will summarize the top 5 most horrific things I experienced during this visit. When first walking into the restaurant around 9:45 or so I received a very kind greeting, not from the staff mind you, but the inch of grease caked on the floor causing most employees and customers to slip and slide around. Through the entirety of my visit there were almost 6 slips that I had witnessed. The staff claimed that they had "accadently used the kitchen mop" to "clean" the dining room. Which assures me that their kitchen is no friends of mine. The second thing was the lack of service and functionality. The servers seemed to be in a frantic panic. Running around not acknowledging the people asking for their attention. Not to mention that it took 15 minutes to be seated by a host who had reluctantly stared and gave us the one minute sign over and over again. Third, Once finnaly being seated as to be expected there was nobody to take our orders and when someone finnaly did show up they quickly stated for us "hold on one second" and never came back. At least the fruit flies were anxious to take our orders. Fourth, once we finnaly got a server (a new one) the food took well over an hour. I wouldnt call that fast food. Let alone quick service. Did I mention we were not able to escape until after midnight? And lastly I would feel bad to not mention that out of everything the second server who we had gotten was actually very nice and helpful. Unfortunately he was so busy trying to attend to everything else we barely got to see him. By the time we finished our food we had to wait an unnecessary amount of time for our bill. I probably could have gotten in my car and paid at the drive through faster than the register at the counter. Realistically I could have even driven 2 hours to get home and been served food at the Steak and Shake near my hometown exit all the way in Vero Beach before I got my food at this location. Overall I am unable to leave a 0 or 0.5 star review. So Steak and Shake. It's your lucky day. You get one star for your horrible service. At least the food was not terrible. Needed a good late night snack so I decided to visit this Steak 'n Shake with 3 friends. First off, we were at the door for almost 5 minutes before we were even acknowledged. Should've known that was a sign to get away but we stayed. After waiting in line, and then waiting on the employee to service a few dine in tables we finally placed our orders at the counter to go, they were simple items from the 2 for $3 deal menu. A couple plain burgers, fries, 2 shakes & a sundae. It took all of 25 mins just to receive the first shake and I honestly couldn't tell you how long it was until we received the food. This location needs a lot of work. It is totally unorganized and it could definitely use some TLC. I feel bad for the employees.
