    Whiting fish
    Ebony M.

Update: The original guys that were apart of this food truck is no longer there. I thought I would give it a try anyway. Bad decision, the fish is great but the young lady with braids, and glasses is rude for no reason. When you walk up to give your order, does not speak, or say Thank you, as if your doing her a favor. When it comes to food, and especially when I drive friends 30 minutes out of my way one way to patronize a small business, customer service matters. I will no longer go to this location. However the food truck on South Orange Ave., will get my continued support. They are very friendly, the fish is great, can't ask for more. This seafood truck across from UMDNJ makes legendary fried whiting, with a signature tartar sauce that has my friends a far as LA, Boston, and the South running to Newark for the fried fish. The fried whiting reminds me of fried fish that you only get in the South. The batter, crispiness of the fish, will have even a picky eater wanting more. The pride that is shown with cooking each order fresh, and caring if a customer is happy with their order is why I love sharing these hidden gems on my social media What made me fall even more in love with this food truck is while I was waiting for my order, a very nice Senior man walked by the truck, and he had no money for food. It was pouring down raining. This precious Senior gentleman was not a panhandler, beggar. This man was dressed respectively, very well mannered. The Owner of the food truck stopped his business conversation, and personally went out of his way to give this man a full meal hot meal, not scraps but a real meal. I was so touched by the Owners kindness, that alone deserves 10 stars.

5 star fried fish FOR SURE! It's lightly coated, seasoned well & fried crispy! All orders come with two slices of fresh bread, hot sauce and tarter sauce. The hot sauce has such good flavor, but it has no spice at all. The tarter sauce was more like a honey mustard but it surprisingly went well with the fish! I tried the potato salad and it lacked everything good potato salad should have. Unfortunately I can't recommend it... There's normally a line here, but it always moves fast. If you're pressed for time, this food truck allows you to call in your order ahead of time! I've always experienced decent customer service here. I mean it's a food truck that's extremely busy, so I always keep that in mind during my visits. Why not at least a 4 star rating? Because the location COUNTS! This truck is located directly across from UMDNJ hospital in Newark. It's not a terrible area, but not the best either. I always notice tons of trash all around which is completely ridiculous to me. I know it's not the responsibility of the food truck, but they are in that same spot ALL THE TIME! It doesn't hurt to step out of that truck and clean the immediate area for your customers! You more than likely will be approached by a panhandler or two, so be prepared for that! Also, parking can be a doozie during lunch time! There's a shopping plaza a few feet away that's pretty much abandoned. Park there at your own risk! Nevertheless the fried fish here is fantastic, so I'll be back again and again! I suggest giving them a try...

The fish is always top notch. When you order you have to ask if everyone put their order in before you just walk and start ordering.

Their sauce is a little yellow because I believe they put honey mustard in it.

They still gave unchopped beef. I posted the video of the sandwich when it arrived to me on snap chat and someone commented "I hope you didn't get that from the east orange location and if it is from there I hope you didn't call it in or they will F it up". That's a shame that the customers know their order will be ruined because you call the order in. I didn't eat the sandwich because the meat was chewy so those expensive sandwiches should really be no more than $10. The salad my friend had wasn't made with care. I immediately stopped on the Vietnamese restaurant with almost a perfect rating at 4.9 stars and 500+ reviews. I'm equally excited, and skeptical. NY/NJ residents aren't the easiest to win over. I walked maybe 6 min to the restaurant. It was a nice sized store front with a well lit dining room, and self and full service kiosk. I was immediately greeted by the staff, I chose to do self serve. Even with that, I still felt very welcomed and engaged once I placed my order. All the items were displayed, and looked fresh. The staff carefully put together a teriyaki salad bowl, and pho for me in about 10 minutes. Once I got the food to my hotel room, I was genuinely impressed. The Pho was so rich in flavor, without being too salty. The noodles were the perfect texture. 10/10. A few hours later after the gym I cracked open the salad bowl. This was referred to me by the staff vs the lemon grass chicken. I am glad I listened, the amount of tender juicy chicken is impressive. The crispy lettuce, and robust tomatoes were a great combination of healthy, and hearty. Bahn & Bo deserves the accolades it's earned, and the one I made up at the beginning. Pro tip: The prices are so good, and so are the portion sizes. If you are looking for fresher, lighter, healthier, skip the Chipotle and Qdobas around the corner, and come here.

Basic seating with nothing fancy. A full jar of fresh pickles is on the table. The pastrami is second to none. Seriously. You get a generous portion of pastrami on rye. Greasy, fatty, just perfect! The onion rings are the best. They are famous for a reason. I go a few times a month so, I'm always greeted by name and promptly seated. The food always arrives shortly after the order is taken.

Luckily I found Hobby's Delicatessen via Find Me Gluten Free and was so glad to find that they do legitimate gluten-free options with a dedicated fryer and prep space to prevent cross contamination. I had the gluten-free pastrami wrap with fries for $23.95 and my husband had the #5 pastrami and corned beef with coleslaw and Russian dressing for $25.95. he also got the drip coffee with free refills for $3.25. Service was amazing. Owner's came out and chatted with us and preemptively made sure that I was aware that my food was safe for me to consume. Our waitress was incredibly personable and sweet. There were free pickles on the table. I'm not even a pickle person but I had three because again, I've been dying for vegetables after being in Europe. Great portions, safe celiac options, personable service, refillable drinks and no charge to use the toilets (although I didn't need to use them during this visit) This is what makes American restaurants great and Hobby's ticks all of those boxes. Before Jersey Mike's. Before Blimpie…read more Before Firehouse Subs. Before Subway. Before Jimmy John's. Before (okay, you get the idea)... there was Big Stash's. A (local) institution. Long before the likes of Subs Galore (a few blocks away) tried to rock the boat, Stash's was the only game in town (for a whole lotta years). I grew up two blocks away and I'm positive I put the original owner's kids through college with all the money I dropped here. After hearing new owners decided to keep the lights on I had to make an effort to get over here to show my support. Walking into the new Stash's... the place received a 'glow-up' (I'm entirely too old to be trying to use hip slang!) and loved that they decided to keep the framed Scott Baio picture (one of these days I'll share the 'deets' on that!). Surprised to see a few new menu additions (coffee?! Taylor ham?! Manhattan Special Espresso Soda?!) as well as being open more days and longer hours. For the sake of history I had to try their 'Belly Buster' and the kid handed me the sub in a box. ("Huh?! This is a weird gimmick.") But when I got home to open the box I understood 'why' - no wax paper and standard paper bag would've been able to hold this beast together. Just a ridiculous amount of (Thumann's) cold cuts and toppings that the (decent) bread tried in vain to keep together. "Bang for your buck" - you won't find a better deal. But for me it was TOO much and there's definitely an 'art' and a 'balance' to the ratio of meat to toppings to bread and Stash's is a bit TOO generous for my liking. One odd tidbit that brought me back to my youth and the old Stash's... that "stinky sub smell" that you just can't get off of your hands (and body) - no matter how many times you wash your hands, brush your teeth, take a shower, you name it. (Sadly it's Pavlovian for me to want/need a Clinton's iced tea when devouring a Stash's sub but that's no longer an option.) I hope they have another fifty years of prosperity down there in West Hudson!
