    The Oxtail Burger Combo

Got to try this place thanks to a "have you met Newark" food tour! The owner was incredibly kind to all of us, and I got to try their oxtail burger . The burger was delicious!! We truly took the price for me though was the side sauce for the burger and the fries, it seemed like barbecue, but it wasn't as thick, and I had a hint of spice in it. There were around 15 of us on the tour and the restaurant was able to seat all of us with having even a few more tables empty so it is pretty spacious . This is now my go to place for a burger when in Newark . Definitely give them a try!

Amazing first experience at the yard. Came here with some coworkers for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by this hidden gem. Staff were super friendly and helpful when placing our orders. Also, they would always come check on us and made sure our drinks were always filled. Superb service! I ordered the seoul sista fried rice. Beautifully plated with a flower in the bowl. The fried rice was made with kimchi that wasn't overly spicy and a large fried egg on top. The Yaya sauce was creamy and paired well with everything. Overall, loved the dish! My coworkers ordered the oxtail sandwich, the walla chicken and the chopped thigh wrap. Everyone loved their dishes and want to come back to try the other dishes. Lastly, we ordered the grilled coconut cake. This is definately a MUST try! First time having a grilled cake and I can say I've been missing out!

Came here on NYE around 4. Luckily just in time! Due to the holiday and the fact they were slow, they were getting ready to close early. One of the workers immediately greeted us to inform us of the change in hours but offered take out option. We got the oxtail burger and the sweet tots! Both were good! I really liked the large cut pickles in the burger and just the overall flavor was balanced. The tots were crispy! On top of that- it is a black owned business! The vibe was intimate with dimmed lighting, smooth music, and warm energy! Would come back!

I'm glad I was able to come here to try this place while in Newark because it was one of the highlights of my visit. Inside the space, you can sit comfortably even though it looks small from the outside. The server there was super helpful in telling my friend and me about what to order. I got the Zanzi fries with jerk chicken. Imagine if you got poutine but with jerk chicken...so good! The fries alone are enough for two meals! And it was only $15 before tip. All the elements of the dish were flavorful, and the gravy wasn't super thick, which I loved. If you like cheese, get this. My friend got the fried breast sandwich and raved about it. We did see the pound cake and were determined to order it to-go, but once we were ready, they had sold out. So if you see it, get it. I highly recommend this place

If you have never been here before, it can be easy to miss. It's located within Military Park which is great ..nice balance of nature and city vibes. The restaurant itself provides an intimate, cozy setting with extremely personable and attentive staff. I ordered the oxtail burger with sweet potato tater tots. It was delicious, very flavorful. I dipped the tots in one of their special dipping sauces. I can't remember the name of it, but it paired very well. Having oxtails in burger form was a new experience for me, or tater tots made from sweet potatoes, for that matter. I trusted the process and thankfully it worked out. Served on brioche bread, the oxtail burger was tender, properly seasoned, topped with gruyère cheese, tomato, dill pickles, shallots, and Masala sauce. That is for sure a signature dish, and I understand why. We all ordered the Black Cherry soda which was nice to enjoy on a warm day. I don't know what brand it was, but I was ready to ask for another round for the road. I also had an opportunity to taste one of their desserts. It wasn't my order, but after reviewing the menu, it was possibly their banana flavored Georgia pound cake, served warm off the grill. What?! That was the finisher I wasn't expecting. Thankfully, I left some room for dessert by boxing half of my entree to go. That cake is a (good) problem. Please make sure you ask for it, and let me know when you do. Overall, everyone at my table enjoyed their meals which included a Beyond vegetarian burger, fried chicken sandwich, and wings. Also worth noting - the owner wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty, working right alongside his staff. Great example of leadership and made our experience feel more welcoming. After our meal, we stepped outside and walked around the park for a while. I'll definitely be back.

A close friend recommend we come here because we were in the area shopping for a Palestinian dress. The service was lovely. The women welcomed us, say us quickly, and was as excited us as for this to be our first time. I ordered the bbq chicken wings and my friend got the ox tail burger. Everything was amazing!!! The food came out hot and fast! The best part was the music was popping and we enjoyed ourselves so much. We will totally be back.

First timer at The Yard. The Good: love that it's Black owned in Newark, seating is easy, and gratuity is up to me. Food presentation is nice. The Bad: we're told what's not available right off the bat, servers are hard to spot in their casual attire, and the building signage? Yeah, it needs some work.

First of all the service was amazing and attentive. You can tell the owner takes pride in making sure everyone is doing well and getting their needs met. I came for the amazing oxtail sandwich and sweet potatoes tater tots. OMG, the brioche bread and juiciness of the meat are to die for. The owner offered us three dipping sauces and all of them were delicious. Go check them out ASAP!

What a great find! We were staying across the St. at the Robert Treat Hotel and could see The Yard from our window. We had just checked in and were a little hungry. It is a perfect little joint with amazing food! So welcoming as soon as we walked in! I had the BEST hot dog with sautéed onions and mustard. Jeff Daniels had the Chicken sausage sandwich with fresh cut fries and all the toppings! Everything was fresh and delicious! We were given an assortment of sauces to try. I am not an adventurous eater but I tried them all. The Masala sauce was phenomenal. We are going back tomorrow to try the Shrimp burger and the wings! The customer service is beyond compare. Every person made sure we were happy and satisfied! Truly a magnificent experience!

Came in before a show at the PAC for dinner. Small place so I can see it getting busy quickly. The staff is super nice. We both had the fried chicken sandwhich. The coating was good. Chicken was cooked perfectly. They gave interesting sauces to put on it. I had the sweet potato tots and bf had the fries. Preferred the tots. He also had a bottled strawberry lemonade which was really good. Overall great place to stop in and grab a meal before a show

Best sauces ever to go with a perfect chicken sandwich.
    Christina L.

Absolutely delicious! Very friendly too! We came in for a bite on the way to the airport. My husband wasn't really hungry so I ordered a FABULOUS chicken sandwich. My guy basically took it and ate it ALL. Kai(the owner, I think!) Gave us several sauces for our fries, and my husband nearly fell over about how good they all were. "Best in his life". *He's the sauce connoisseur, I inhale my food* If we are ever back in Newark, we are gonna return for a saucy encore from Kai! Nice place, good vibes, kind people, and mind blowing food.

Long before the likes of Subs Galore (a few blocks away) tried to rock the boat, Stash's was the only game in town (for a whole lotta years). I grew up two blocks away and I'm positive I put the original owner's kids through college with all the money I dropped here. After hearing new owners decided to keep the lights on I had to make an effort to get over here to show my support. Walking into the new Stash's... the place received a 'glow-up' (I'm entirely too old to be trying to use hip slang!) and loved that they decided to keep the framed Scott Baio picture (one of these days I'll share the 'deets' on that!). Surprised to see a few new menu additions (coffee?! Taylor ham?! Manhattan Special Espresso Soda?!) as well as being open more days and longer hours. For the sake of history I had to try their 'Belly Buster' and the kid handed me the sub in a box. ("Huh?! This is a weird gimmick.") But when I got home to open the box I understood 'why' - no wax paper and standard paper bag would've been able to hold this beast together. Just a ridiculous amount of (Thumann's) cold cuts and toppings that the (decent) bread tried in vain to keep together. "Bang for your buck" - you won't find a better deal. But for me it was TOO much and there's definitely an 'art' and a 'balance' to the ratio of meat to toppings to bread and Stash's is a bit TOO generous for my liking. One odd tidbit that brought me back to my youth and the old Stash's... that "stinky sub smell" that you just can't get off of your hands (and body) - no matter how many times you wash your hands, brush your teeth, take a shower, you name it. (Sadly it's Pavlovian for me to want/need a Clinton's iced tea when devouring a Stash's sub but that's no longer an option.) I hope they have another fifty years of prosperity down there in West Hudson!

I immediately stopped on the Vietnamese restaurant with almost a perfect rating at 4.9 stars and 500+ reviews. I'm equally excited, and skeptical. NY/NJ residents aren't the easiest to win over. I walked maybe 6 min to the restaurant. It was a nice sized store front with a well lit dining room, and self and full service kiosk. I was immediately greeted by the staff, I chose to do self serve. Even with that, I still felt very welcomed and engaged once I placed my order. All the items were displayed, and looked fresh. The staff carefully put together a teriyaki salad bowl, and pho for me in about 10 minutes. Once I got the food to my hotel room, I was genuinely impressed. The Pho was so rich in flavor, without being too salty. The noodles were the perfect texture. 10/10. A few hours later after the gym I cracked open the salad bowl. This was referred to me by the staff vs the lemon grass chicken. I am glad I listened, the amount of tender juicy chicken is impressive. The crispy lettuce, and robust tomatoes were a great combination of healthy, and hearty. Bahn & Bo deserves the accolades it's earned, and the one I made up at the beginning. Pro tip: The prices are so good, and so are the portion sizes. If you are looking for fresher, lighter, healthier, skip the Chipotle and Qdobas around the corner, and come here.

READ FULL REVIEW!!!…read more March 2026: First time at this establishment was just ok. Hosted a very small get-together here (5 guest). Atmosphere was nice. Music was wayy too loud to hear the person you're sitting next to. Food was tasty and fresh. Coffee was good with great creamer selection (at the time). Our server was my least favorite part of this experience. He was over the top with his energy and upscale tactics (pushy with getting us to order extra drinks and appetizers despite declining). I was hosting this event and did not need him selling us after already being told "no, thank you" twice. It was awkward and ultimately changed the vibe. He hardly checked on us after that encounter and we constantly had to remind them about request that were never brought out to the table. Staff needs to be trained better. This was just an ok experience. April 2026 : What ultimately lead me to write this review was my 2nd experience at this diner. The server was a lot better than our first experience, but we did run into a few too many problems. First, we ordered coffee and are informed that per managements request, we can only have half-half or cream with our coffee. Previously they had French vanilla creamers and other flavored creamers but I guess management decided to save on the additional cost. This was a bummer especially realizing that they could easily afford creamers. This restaurant easily pulls at least $150,000 per week in revenue, so I didn't understand cheapening out like that. I still ordered the coffee. When it came to the table I added the cream into the cup only to find something floating in the coffee. I send it back and ask for a new cup, which the server politely provided. We order our meals and all goes well. Eventually two of the three meals come out and we wait for the final plate to come out. It's common courtesy to wait for everyone to have their meal before eating, so we wait. We wait about 6-7 minutes and the final plate comes out only for it to be cold. All of us ordered breakfast, so you can imagine trying to eat cold egg, potato, and sausage. We ask for the waiter, but before he could get to us the manager passes by and we let him know the issue. He takes the plate to the back and about two minutes later he comes back with the same exact plate. Before the manager arrived to take the plate away, I saw the guest split the egg half and add black pepper on everything so we knew it was the same plate and food she started eating off of that was reheated onto the kitchen grill where other food is being prepared for guest. The manager informs us that he had the chef heat the food up on the griddle and that it should be a perfect temperature. We refuse to accept the plate because it was reheated and not remade entirely. We were shocked that this was the solution even being offered. Reheating food on the griddle seemed unsafe (contamination risk, diseases, illness, etc) and offensive. No one pays these prices to have reheated breakfast served to them. I could've just made that at home for a fraction of the price. We politely refuse the reheated plate and he apologized and took the plate to the back. The server comes over to see what the issue is and we explain everything. He says that he will look into it and take that meal off the bill. Now I'm frustrated because one out of the three of us aren't eating anything and the experience was off. At this point, I'm not eating my meal but the 3rd guest is eating. So the guest who sent their plate back and myself are waiting for the 3rd guest to finish their pancakes. He ordered a stack of 4-5 chocolate chip pancakes and was happily eating away at layer by layer. Eventually he gets to the last 2 pancakes and before he adds syrup he notices what appeared to be an eyelash or short piece of hair imbedded in the pancake. Picture of the clearly imbedded hair included with this review. He immediately stopped eating and looks sick. He had already eaten 3-4 pancakes by then and the idea that he ate more of whatever that was felt unnerving, to say the least. We both start looking to see what he's looking at and long behold the hair was there. At this point we are extremely frustrated and completely over this experience. Management did not make this experience right even after addressing all of these issues both separately and together. I felt like my money was not valued and my business certainly wasn't. They did nothing to remedy these issues and I will NOT be going back to this establishment. This restaurant may look visually beautiful but the service is not. Staff needs more training, music needs to be turned down, chefs need to wear hairnets and everyone needs to follow safe food handling skills. You're putting your guest and your business at risk ignoring these issues. I really really wish I had a better experience.
