This team was dedicated my return to pain free mobility. After a (slowly diagnosed) torn meniscus, they tried various strength exercises and supported my decision to try other interventions like PRP. This year I got a TKR. Andrew, Tim, and Victoria cheered me on in the tough weeks after surgery, tried various approaches, and coordinated with my surgeon. They kept me positive and put a lot of thought into the best way to help me heal. I am now pain free and back on the bike and trails, BUT I do my stretches twice a day too. They aren't magical and you have to do your work. The front office cheerfully found me appointments that fit my limited availability and office manager Brandee was always many steps ahead planning to meet my insurer's requirements. Highly recommend. A year ago it was hard to envision not being in daily pain. I could not have gotten here with Steamboat PT. read more

If someone told me Heidi walks on water I would believe them. In two years I have worked with her on separate and unrelated issues. She is amazing. Both times I experienced immediate relief. In addition, I was provided clear follow up exercises as well as establishing some realistic goals and making sure all my questions were answered. In every interaction I find her approachable, knowledgeable, professional, kind, interested in my well being as well as a large number of additional, positive attributes. She was able to tell me my "self" diagnosis was wrong, in a gentle way and then discussed with me what she thought it might be. Of course, no question, she facilitated a great result. Relief! The office is efficient, clean, pleasant and the staff have been nice, competent and offer generous smiles whenever anyone shows up. I've been to Steamboat for two injuries in the decade I've lived in Olympia, and I had fantastic experiences both times. The first was for a persistent knee injury from a motorcycle crash, where I worked with Harrison Williams, and the second was a lower back injury where I worked with Andrew Byers. In both cases I left Steamboat feeling 100%, and in much better shape than I was in even before the injury. Harrison and Andrew were careful listeners and long-term thinkers, focusing not just on a recovery to square one but on prevention of future injuries and lasting improvements to strength, flexibility, and body mechanics. They encouraged me to set goals beyond 'no pain' that guided a faster pace of recovery than I've had in the past. My wildland firefighting work is a recipe for injuries (seasonal, with lots of sitting interspersed with periods of intense exercise) and I spent a season keeping myself on the sidelines with the lower back injury. Working with Andrew was a real confidence-booster in my own abilities; if you're considering physical therapy I encourage you to take the plunge here, it is indeed as good as the reviews indicate. First, a little background; I live in Bellingham but work in Olympia. In January I tore the tendon from my left bicep to my elbow - surgery ensued in Bellingham. After two weeks recuperation at home I was ready to go back to work. My Ortho. Doc prescribed PT (and lots of it) but was not familiar enough with the PT places in Olympia to give me a recommendation. I was on my own. I talked to three people I knew in Olympia who had recently undergone Physical Therapy; a friend, a co-worker and another doctor. The doctor recommended Steamboat Physical Therapy. (Plot twist: the Dr. is a Psychiatrist who made the recommendation based on his experience as a patient, that sealed the deal for me.) I've been going to Steamboat PT now for three months. My therapist is Heidi Oksendahl-Byers (co-owner with her husband, Andrew.) Heidi and the entire staff have been very pleasant, helpful, understanding and caring. I get a complete explanation of everything that Heidi is doing, why she is doing it and the results she, my Ortho Doc. and I should be seeing. My Ortho Doc. in Bellingham says I'm making exceptionally good progress - I can only attribute that to Heidi and everyone at Steamboat Physical Therapy. I've been going to Steamboat Physical Therapy for a couple of years now, first for chronic pain issues, and more recently for a frozen left shoulder. Andrew Byers has been the best physical therapist I've encountered. He truly listens and then tailors the therapy to the specific unique situation of that person, which is very important to me in that my body tends to react in funky ways. Whereas most medical professionals largely pay lip service to customizing things for that individual patient, Andrew actually does so, knows his stuff, and is super nice. I could write a novel about the amazing care both me and my 14-year daughter have received at SPT. Ann Wade is my therapist and she is a miracle worker. Tracee (need to look up her last name) is my daughter's physical therapist. My daughter was with Tracee for about three minutes before she diagnosed her problem (systemic hypermobility), a syndrome that previous therapists had failed to identify. Remarkable! Extremely caring staff. The BEST TMJ "specialists" (what I consider specialists) in the area as well as in other areas I'm sure. What is so caring about them is if they aren't quite sure about something they will take the time to learn about your condition by researching it thouroughly and/or taking classes to build their skills.
