Plato Dale Farm is a small family farm that specializes in grassfed beef, pasture raised chickens…read moreand also sells high quality vegetables and fruits. You can often find them at various farmer's markets. During the wintertime, you can find them at Horsefeathers Winter Market, North Tonawanda and a few other locations (listed on their web site). They also offer a variety of CSA's and if you're looking to buy 200lb worth of cow to last you the whole winter, summer, year or whatever; they would be some of the best local purveyors to get it from. Prices are higher than your typical supermarket ground beef, but you get what you pay for with very succulent ground beef. I find grassfed beef has a bit of a different taste and prefer it, so whenever convenient I buy my burgers from these guys. The farm also supplies a good amount of beef for Lloyd Taco Trucks as well as tomatillos, cilantro and other veggies. The people who run the farm and their staff are superbly friendly. Next time you see these guys at a farmers market, I highly recommend trying some of their products! I'd love to read some more reviews from people who have tried their CSAs as well.

Kent Miller is what every farmer should be: passionate about his craft, passionate about his food,…read moreand passionate about helping his "customers" - i.e. his neighbors, friends, and fellow WNYers, find healthy, delicious, sustainable food. Kent and the gang, aka Plato Dale and the Sunshine Kids, can be seen regularly at Horsefeathers and Farmers and Artisans in the winter, and all over town during the growing season. The farm offers shares of vegetables and meat (including grass fed jersey cows and other breeds on occasion) and pick up points from North Tonawanda to West Seneca and downtown Buffalo to Arcade. We've purchased a half cow from the farm, as well as loads of produce. They even have farm friends in Florida and supply organic citrus around the holidays (Hint: your oranges should not be perfectly orange and round. They should be a little uglier.) If you aren't convinced by my own enthusiasm, you might be convinced by the fact that several great Buffalo restaurateurs including Peter & Chris of Lloyd's and Steve Gedra of Black Sheep (and formerly of Bistro Europa) regularly supply from Plato Dale. These are heavy hitters and a great testament to the quality and deliciousness of Kent's food. My one complaint, to be fair and unbiased in my review, is the pricey eggs the farm produces. But they're offset by the price-to-quality ratio of everything else they grow and sell, so, water under the bridge!! If you're looking for a local supplier of farm fresh food, Plato Dale should be your first stop.

Rogue Carrot is by far my favorite stop in Alfred. It's over towards Alfred State campus, and just…read moredown the street (literally) from Alfred University. I can always count on Rogue Carrot for fresh groceries, delicious local produce and eggs, and they're a great stop if you really don't feel like driving to Hornell or Wellsville. Probably my favorite thing about this organic shop is that you can have an "account" with them, and put money under your name for future purchases. I've always got around $10 saved up with them, so if I forget my wallet, it's no problem. Mondays and Fridays, they get in fresh local challah for maybe only $4, and they restock on Thursdays for general groceries, and source from Rochester items such as quality cheeses (their ricotta is to die for). The owner is happy to do special orders for customers, and their prices are beyond reasonable. Please support local businesses like the Rogue Carrot, and keep money locally. The Carrot supports area farmers, and buys good quality produce year round. They even buy and sell for local artists, and it's a great place to pick up little gifts, like earrings, or mugs.

Fresh produce, great tea selection, lots of options for making dinner, or quick grab options for lunch or dinner if you don't feel like cooking. The owner buys from and supports local farmers! Highly recommend the local honey, honey comb and maple syrup. The fresh baked ginger cookies are addictive.

If you are a tourist and are a little overwhelmed by all the different farms, vineyards, and…read morerestaurants in the area and are unsure where to start, Check this place out!!! They sell groceries, cheeses, meats, snacks, bread, coffee, and awesome swag, all from local farms, and restaurants, and businesses in the area. Plus the owners are at cash register with their little baby, happy to help guide you to their favorites. They grew up in Burdett and can give some great advice on where the cool hangout spots are. This is also the spot if you want to have an evening in or pack a picnic to take to the lake stuffed with amazing goodness from the local farms I am a "Part-time" local and today was my first day popping in. I wanted to stay in tonight but still have a delicious local meal. I bought a bag of Polenta from Farmer Ground. (Trumansburg) Chèvre garlic and pepper from Lively run goat dairy. (Interlaken) Chilled Mediterranean quinoa salad (Stonecat Cafe in Hector NY) and frozen Garlic bratwurst (packed by Timberland Meats (Dundee) farm fresh asparagus, and chocolate milk from (Sunset view creamery) They have great shaded parking, and I was able to pull in on a nice windy day and leave my dog in the car with the windows down. I ran into a couple of other locals that I knew and struck up a pleasant conversation. They have picnic table out front, so you can buy your farmdelicious foods and eat them out side and enjoy the day. Locals and tourists alike, we're hanging out at the picnic tables, having fun. Their decor is so cute. Perfect country store vibe, with a granola and wine twist. It's nice to see a small family business connecting locals farms and community through the food they carry. Today was an extra bonus day, because Nickels BBQ food truck was parked in lot, their BB sauce is also sold inside Burdett exchange, if you want your own bottled sauce. After I cashed out with ny groceries. I popped over to them for a brisket sandwich, coleslaw, and fries. If you're lucky enough to see them there when you pop over, highly recommend giving them a try, delicious and I will review them separately. This place is downtown burdett 3 simple streets from Route 414 and is a must try, and grab some gifts for your friends while you're there. Now my biggest decision today is what wine to pair with my dinner in tonight. Lol
