I've been coming here for years. They are the best Butcher Shop in our area. Their stuffed pork chops are terrific but they are known mostly because of their homemade Sausages. I especially like their hot Italian and my wife loves their chicken and mild Italian Sausage. Everything is reasonably priced and delicious! The counter people are always courteous and knowledgeable. Trolls and those who have nothing better to do ask, "Who has the BEST Italian Sausage?" I guess that makes me a troll or very boring, because as you can see, I just snuck that question into my review. Growing up as an Italian kid, my mom always went to Johnny's to get mild Italian sausage with cheese. When I got my driver's license, it became my weekly assignment to drive to Johnny's to score sausage. They were the first ones to add cheese and parsley to their sausage, although others do so now, as well. I've been eating Johnny's sausage and other delicious food since the 1960's. Maybe even longer. The Italian sausage recipe they use today is the same as when I was a kid. It's absolutely wonderful. Parking is tight, so I recommend you take the either the #11 or #23 bus, both of which stop right in front of the store. Wheelchair access is not too bad. The door is heavy and you'll probably need so help with that, but there's no steps to contend with and the aisles are roomy. read more

I can't say enough great things about this butcher. The family who owns it is knowledgeable, helpful, and beyond inviting. Not only do they have high quality products at very reasonable prices, they are always happy to offer recommendations or order things that they don't regularly stock. In addition to the regular butcher store meats, they always carry fresh bread, delicious deli products, and an array of other specialty items. Try the rare roast beef! Let me first say that this was my first visit to the store. It was the Saturday before Christmas and it was busy. We had a last minute change to our holiday menu and I was in need of a briscole. I checked everywhere and could not find anyone who could help me. I accidentally found Johnny's. I thought I'd take a chance and drive over. I asked the very pleasant lady behind the counter and she said that they had one left. I grabbed it and left. This was one of the best briscoles I have ever tasted. Went to Johnny's to get food. Inside not one person had a mask or gloves on. Even when there is not a virus going around gloves should be used when handling raw meat. They are not taking this pandemic seriously. When asked if why they don't wear masks or gloves the reply was "eh, sometimes ". Time to social distance from Johnny's meat market. read more

The Best butcher shop around, and it's a family owned business. I've tried all the chicken sausage in Buffalo and by far I feel Johnny's is the best. Spinach feta, and no fennel!. Bottom line is...if I'm having a cookout during the summer I always on some Johnny's hot Italian or mild as well as chicken sausage. I sometimes pick up a nice chuck roast as well. Such a convenient spot on Hertel for your meat needs! Lunch meat/cheeses to prepared pasta salads to fresh bacon (meaty and so tasty! Also cant beat the price at $3.89lb!), chicken, ground beef, to housemade sausage and sahlens hotdogs and eggs...they have quite the variety. I was even pleased to find Rootie's blue cheese!! Thank you! The workers were super friendly and everyone that came in the store they knew by first name. A fellow patron recommended to try the shrimp salad...never had such a thing but he insisted it was one of his staples. Let. Me. Tell. You. That shrimp salad was sooo good! I have no clue what exactly is in it but I will be returning for more! Also there is a whole homemade freezer section where you can find a variety of soups, homemade sauce and meatballs, and a variety of prepared full meals ready for your oven! They have an assortment of grocery items that would be super convenient to grab instead of going to a large grocery store for "just one thing." They sell gondola pasta items and Luigi's rolls and other local items as well. I will def be returning...so many things left to try! read more

Going to Johnnys is like stepping back in time to 1900. An old time meat market before Upton Sinclair exposed places like this. 1. No one wears meat handling gloves. 2. I went here for the first time this past Saturday, for some steaks for a backyard dinner party I was having. First off, great service -- the lady who helped me out was pleasant and nice. I got a few Delmonico's and some stuffed banana peppers for an appetizer. The steaks grilled up perfectly and minga those peppers? Forget about it. (Name that movie.) Scott and the crew at Johnny's continues to provide outstanding customer service with their special orders. As always, I'm searching for stew lamb. stopped by last week to see if there was any in the freezer, no luck. Scott did promise me fresh stew lamb the following Thursday (yesterday) from a leg 'o lamb due to arrive Tuesday. Hand cut, uniform cubes (thank you, Jay!), packaged in 2# bags as I had requested. No upcharge from a regular leg! (N.B.; Federal charges SIX dollars a pound more for stew lamb, and does not know the source of the product) Johnny's lamb is sourced from a farm in Colorado. The funny ways of the world, I know exactly where that farm is, and have met the farmer/rancher (from my Denver days). We really are all connected, aren't we? What is offered within this lovely small store exceeds my expectations. Luigi's breads - sliced!!!! Italian pasta made with semolina and cut on a brass die. Seriously whoo hoo for me! Tub butter, slap me again! Better yet, Circle U hard salami. I have recently cut all ties with another local meatmarket/butcher shop. No need to rehash old nonsense. Ah, the love I feel for a bona-fide butcher's market! Having it in my neighborhood makes it that much better! Asked about meat packages, and was told about their specials in the weekly Buffalo Rocket...a new stop on my weekly grocery runs! Only disadvantage: no all-beef bologna at the deli counter. I have been to Jonny's regularly for years now. My wife gets all of her sausage making supplies, including casing. We also find all kinds of hard to find items like huge bags of yeast and multiple kinds of capers. They also have all sorts of frozen italian pasta and soups too. This place is so much more than a butcher shop. Great staff too. read more

When I walked in I was greeted with a warm hello and friendly conversation before I made my selection. I picked out 2 steaks and a lb of bacon. The steaks cooked perfectly and was one of the best cuts I've ever had. I enjoyed going here and will definitely be back soon. read more

I've been coming here for years. Prices are fair and the service is excellent. It's a real Hertel institution. In addition to meat/deli it err ms they sell many small grocery items including homemade frozen meals like eggplant parm, stuffed shells, etc. Definitely try the house made sausage! My first trip to this butcher. AMAZING!! There were 2 gentlemen and 1 woman behind the counter. Kind. Professional. They were very busy and yet even an old woman who was as cocky and irritating as the day is long, did not rattle their cages. this is my second meat large meat package. the first while affordable was just thrown together and the cuts did not look great at all. you would think on a 150$ order they would care a little more. I called and asked them to take care on my next order, on the second order they forgot 2 8oz strip steaks and gave me all of the pin muscle? which is rather tough and not strip??? again another 100$ package. i thought after talking with the manger the first time they would have figured i know what is what, or maybe they just dont care or want my money. I do not like the fact the slipped the pin muscle in on me the 2nd time. will see how they fix it read more
