These guys are not honest and I would recommend going elsewhere instead of getting ripped off. It sucks that I didn't search the cost for this part before blindly agreeing to the outrageous cost. Best auto repair store !! My car has had some problems for a long while. I didn't get it repaired because another 2 stores both told me I need to spend over 1000 dollars on it. I would rather to buy a new car if it's true. But this time, my car died on the road. The tow guy suggested me this store. And I got all my problems fixed within 300 dollars here! Honest mechanic. My car broke down in Peoria while away from home on work. Rob was the mechanic I spoke to. I towed my car to his shop and he tried to find out what the issue was. Initially, the problem was misdiagnosed... something else was also wrong with the car, he assumed that was the primary problem, unfortunately it was a red herring; that's ok, I understand how it goes. In the end Rob found out the what the true issue was. It happened to be a very expensive fix. Rob didn't pressure me; to my surprise he was totally cool when I told him I'd rather tow the car 200mi back to my own mechanic in Chicago to complete the job. He told me not to pay him for the initial fix since the initial diagnosis had been incorrect. I felt it was only right to pay Rob for the part he had installed, but honestly he would have let me out of there not giving him a dime. That's not something you see every day with a mechanic. Me; an out of town business traveler with a broken vehicle; he or any other mechanic could've taken me to the cleaners and I probably would have gone along for the ride since I was stranded 200mi from home. If you are looking for a good, reliable, fast, professional auto mechanic, I highly recommend Rob at Stecher's Auto Service! My wife and I were on our way to pick up our daughter from Bradley University for summer break when my battery light came on and a warning showed "battery not charging." I called my local mechanic and he said most likely my alternator was gone. As I was 2 hours from home and didn't know anyone local, I had to find an auto mechanic on-line that could fix our Suburban quickly or we would have to find a hotel and spend the night! We immediately searched on-line and found Stecher's. When I called and spoke with Rob, he was honest and said he could diagnose the problem but since it was already 3:45pm he didn't know if he would be able to fix it same day. When I arrived, he quickly confirmed the alternator was bad and after I told him my situation he said he would fix our truck so we could get our daughter and get home same day. Amazingly, within 90 mins, he ordered the part, had it delivered and fixed the alternator and we were on our way. During our conversation I mentioned that I was military so when I looked at the bill I noticed he given me a military discount too...now that is a business that cares about their customers and supports the troops!!
