I probably won't be coming back with that increase in price. I saw good reviews, so I decided to take my 10 year old for his first big boy haircut...or one that isn't done at home by my husband. The shop is clean and stylish. Kris, the owner, was amazing with my autistic son. She was fun and polite, and very patient. She gave him the exact cut he wanted. When I returned to my native Lehigh Valley a little over a year ago one of my first priorities was to replace the barber I had been with for 32 years in Illinois. After some frustrating and disappointing attempts with other shops in the area I decided to give Steel City Beards & Shears a try. My cutter that day was Kris, who is the co-proprietor and owner of Steel City. She was excellent! Kris was friendly, personable, professional and highly skilled. My hair that day was still in bad shape from the previous cut done elsewhere, but Kris did an exceptional job of getting it as close to my customary look as could be done with some of the errors of the previous cut not yet fully grown in. I was very impressed to say the least. I returned a few weeks later with the too-short areas now filled-in, and once again Kris absolutely nailed it! However, the woman that cut his hair manage to give him a clean-cut and fast. She engaged with him and made him feel comfortable. After we left, he couldn't stop looking at himself and called his haircut "amazing". As for me, the same thing. After going to some of the chains like Workday Hair, Not-So Great Clips and Hair Butchery, I finally found a place that I like and that I can call "my" go to place to get a haircut and to trim the beard a bit. A modern twist on the classic barbershop. The prices are more than reasonable and the ladies that work there definitely know their stuff. The hours are very accommodating and I've had nothing less than an awesome experience everytime I've patronized them. I hope they stay around for awhile. The only negative (which doesn't affect my rating)is that when it does get busy, they rely on first come-first served basis, but on the honor system, so sometimes it could be easy to forget where your place in line is if you get sidetracked easily. Maybe some kind of notepad to write your name down would help alleviate that minor issue. read more

I had an amazing hair cutting experience today. It has been a long time since I have gotten my hair done being a mom of 1.5 year old quadruplets and a 4 year old. I needed a new, fresh look, and I was not disappointed going to Steel City Beards and Shears. I was in and out in a short amount of time, but that did not detract from the time put into crearing my my new do'. I am not high-maintenance and do not care for spending an inordinate amount of time getting pampered, so to be able to walk in and get my hair done on short notice without fuss is highly appreciated.
