Another great night at Steel Hands Brewing! This was our second visit to this location, and both times have been excellent. We first found Steel Hands when we brought our daughter to the University of South Carolina, and we're really glad we did. It's a great spot with lots of room, a relaxed atmosphere, and it's dog-friendly, which is always a big plus. Tonight was Nashville Night, and the live country music was fantastic. The singer had a sound that reminded me a lot of Chris Stapleton, and it was the perfect soundtrack for the evening. For food, we had the Pimento Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich, wings, and Chicken Caesar Salad Wrap. The chicken sandwich was a standout -- very well breaded with a huge piece of chicken. You could literally see the chicken sticking out of both ends of the sandwich! The wings were meaty, flavorful, and cooked really well. We've had a great experience here both times. I love going to new places, trying different foods, and enjoying the atmosphere. I also like sharing my experience with others with food allergies to help them know if it's a good option. For someone who cannot eat wheat, there were not many safe options. Even the BBQ sauce contained wheat. I was still able to have a few things, but overall, the options were limited. The band was very loud at first, but they did turn it down slightly, which helped a lot. We originally went expecting an afterparty connected to an event I participated in earlier that morning. I've been to afterparties before, and they are usually in a clearly designated, blocked-off area for participants and sometimes families. When we arrived, there were actually three different events happening, which is great--but it made things confusing. Parking was also difficult, and there were no accessible parking spots available at the time since all three were taken. The venue itself has a main restaurant, outdoor seating, a food ordering area, and a separate bar. There was a sign pointing toward another building connected to the restaurant that mentioned the morning event I attended, so we followed it. However, something didn't feel right. When I asked staff for clarification, they weren't sure whether the area was for runners/participants or only for company staff. About 20 minutes later, we learned it was actually only for staff. The signage was very misleading, and I wasn't the only one confused. Even the front staff seemed unsure of what was going on, which made things more frustrating. The event coordinator wasn't available, so it felt like communication was lacking across the board. In the end, we still got our food and drinks and had a good time, but it was a confusing experience overall. I do feel for the staff who were put in a difficult position without clear information. Clearer signage would have helped a lot--for example, specifying the company name and clearly stating whether the area was for employees only or open to participants from the event that morning. Better communication in the event emails would also have made expectations much clearer about what was open to the public versus staff only from the start. Overall, it is still a nice place to hang out and enjoy food and live music, but the event setup and communication definitely need more clarity. read more

Interesting configuration, not a bad thing. The beers were very well crafted. The food was well done. Fresh made, great flavors good selection for a microbrewery. Interesting that the food is ordered from the bar and you have to pick it up at the "food truck" in the beer garden. Just be aware. The beer garden is well organized and a great space. Plenty of tables and space to enjoy your evening. More activities and spaces to enjoy here. Definitely a place that will succeed. The staff was very professional, welcoming and warm. We needed a lunch stop between Charlotte and Hilton Head, and this was perfect. Just a little off the highway with a decent sized gravel parking lot, plenty of seating (indoor and out), great for dogs and kids, this was an easy stop. We loved the west coast IPA, and tried a few others. Everyone enjoyed their food - the fried avocado tacos are worth a try! Finally made it to Steel Hands for a lazy afternoon enjoying lunch and live music. Small but fun menu -- including vegetarian friendly fried avocado tacos. I had a delicious burger. Steel Hands makes great beer, and was surprised to see the range of Bourbon on hand too -- will have to come back for that. For those not imbibing, there are a few mocktails to choose from. Outside space is HUGE with plenty of seating ... including lots of umbrella shaded options. Sound system seems to reach everywhere, so sit accordingly to adjust your volume experience. This is the second time in two days we've been here! I'm working in Columbia and decided to try this place out. The food last night was great and so was the beer. There is a good selection of craft beers, something for every taste. Service is counter ordering but they bring the food to your table and come around and clean up while you're there. There is ample indoor and outdoor seating. Live music, games, and cornhole boards. There are umbrellas on the outside tables so some can sit in the shade while others are in the sun. Great brewery with a very large Tasting Room. We went on a Saturday afternoon while on a day trip to Columbia. We searched for breweries in the area and saw that Steel Hands has good reviews so we decided to give it a try. We realized that we had probably done well when we pulled up and it was hard to find a parking spot in a very large parking lot. My two buddies and I are in a Homebrew Club and are all quite familiar with the beer making process. We were all quite impressed with their beers and the atmosphere was very lively. What a fantastic brewery!! This was one of 4 Yelp choices and all "Steel Hands" were pointing here!! We arrived around noon on Sunday and sat at a picnic table near the entrance! The tables on the patio and court yard were spaced out perfectly and there were small trees amongst them! To our surprise, we were treated to some novice but GREAT young talented musicians! We listened to Nirvana, Led Zeppelin and Foo Fighters and so much more! What a fun collection! Ok, drinks and food! We ordered the blood orange lemonade with vodka. The atmosphere was great and the band we saw was phenomenal-their band name was Highway Home. The drinks were tasty (especially the Vodka watermelon mixed drink) but that's where the positive comments end. The food and kitchen were absolutely HORRIBLE! We walked up to the food counter and ordered pulled pork nachos, a chicken sandwich, and a pulled pork sandwich. After 1 1/2 hours, we only had the nachos delivered (no plates or utensils were given to us) and the server quickly plopped the nachos down, grabbed our number, and left. When we went up to ask where the sandwiches were, we were reprimanded for letting the food deliverer take our number before all the food was dropped off. Really??? We never got our sandwiches and asked for a refund. The nachos were the worst nachos we have ever had-they actually used Nacho Cheese flavored Doritos chips-What??? The pulled pork was okay on the nachos but the rest was awful. Someone needs to organize this kitchen-what a train wreck it is! Steel Hands was a great time! I can't say enough good things about the way that they've ingratiated themselves into the local community! I went on a special Gamecock night, and there were tons (I'd guess hundreds) of people decked out in Gamecock gear, and they had local journalists there to provide insights into the upcoming college football season. It was really a sight to see. In addition to that, they had a great live music band, who played a lot of great country music hits. Finally, their craft beer is great, and I loved their IPAs. Overall, five (5) stars for Steel Hands, for a variety of reasons! I hope they'll be in Columbia for years to come! read more

Great for just hanging out! We visited Steel Hands Brewing on a Friday evening and while it was busy, it wasn't packed. The space was huge, with plenty of seating both inside and on the (dog friendly) patio. The vibe was casual and kind of industrial, especially the indoor portion. We went up to order food at the counter and drinks at the bar. I chose the Fried Pickles, and a mocktail (the menu featured 3 of these). The mocktail was called something like "sun sipper", but I can't find the name of it now. It was citrusy and pretty tasty, but not super memorable. The Fried Pickles were fried in beer batter and came with house-made ranch - great for a snack! I ended up getting a cocktail later in the night, made with vodka and lemonade (again, can't find the name). This one was stronger than expected, but pretty refreshing. The ambiance on the patio was great and we had no problem snagging a picnic table for our large group. They had live music, and the performers were so talented! I ended up staying way longer than I'd planned to, just to listen to them more. That Sunday, we returned for Yoga & Brunch, hosted by Good Company Yoga. The paved portion of the patio ended up being perfect for outdoor yoga, and we had a great experience. Afterwards, we stayed for brunch, and I ordered the Pimento Cheese Hot Honey Chicken Biscuit. While this dish was tasty, I can't say it was worth the price. The piece of chicken was tiny, and I mostly filled up on the side (I chose sweet potato fries). My friend got the Southern Chicken and Waffles, which were also just alright. Overall though, I do enjoy this brewery - would return! read more

We've been in the area since 2020, and on the recommendation of the "Beer Man", we visited our first area brewery--Steel Hands! It was good experiences. Our friends had dark beer, a favorite of mine, but on this day, I took the recommendation of one of the staff and tried a sour beer. Truth is I like all beer, except those funky, so called IPAs. The sour was okay, and since our visit fell within Oktoberfest, we sampled some good German themed food. Staff is very friendly and helpful. A good fish Sammie is hard to find and this was great. Not dried out, the seasoned sauce was perfect, and bun was soft. Sweet potato fries were hot and on point. Awesome staff with great hospitality and the food was tasty for a brewery experience. My favorite was the coffee lager and then the pecan. Steelhands is by far one of the best breweries in a Columbia. They have a solid fast casual style layout which allows you be freely roaming the spot. What a great place to hang out. The patio and stage is awesome and they boast some really good local talent. Inside is airy and friendly. The staff is friendly and eager to talk to you about beer. I tried a couple: Coffee Lager-smooth and light great coffee flavor on top of a tasty lager. Tangerine Sour-lots of tangerine flavor and only slight sourness. Fantastic spot. Stopped by before a later football game in Columbia because we have lucked into case sales local in Chas. What a perfect tasting room. Huge outdoor set up w live music stage, multiple fire pits (amazing on this blustery Fall day), so many seats and really fun staff. Lots of fresh beer choices, seasonal brews, cocktails and more. Love the Juicy IPA that we have had before and their barrel ages oatmeal stout was a killer (be aware..this one is almost 10%abv) We got the the inside scoop that they are preparing to release some "dessert" style coffee lager for the Holidays. Our ROMEO review for the week; Giving a rating of 4.0 based on the 8 reviews from the club. There were 8 of us ROMEO's that went to lunch at the Steel Hands Brewery last Tuesday. All but one of us had never been there before, and the one who had been before had all good things to say about his experiences there, while others had heard reports of good beers, good food, and good atmosphere. As we were the first ones to arrive for lunch, seating was easy amongst the many tables where we seated ourselves and looked over the menu. We then found we need to go to the bar to open our lunch tab, get our beverages, and then go to the lunch window to order food and pick up napkins, plastic forks, etc. This system may work well for the establishment, but does seem it could be more difficult for some instead of being served at the table by waiters/waitresses, particularly when it would be crowded. This detail in fact took a hit when factored into individual assessments. As our Fearless Leader was MIA this day due to home mechanical repair scheduling issues, and my following insights into individual lunch choices and ratings not being up to normal standards, my observations and conversation yielded this: that the burger with a runny egg on it was deemed excellent..the pulled pork sandwiches seemed deemed pretty good, with one observation that a mustard sauce would make it better..the smash burgers were deemed from real good to meh, and the fries deemed by a couple guys as wanting to be more crispy. The bang bang shrimp were said to be really good, and I'd say that the beers were all considered to be very good. The lunch menu is fairly extensive, and has some very interesting sounding choices, and I think consensus is that a return visit would be welcome. Out of a possible 5, with ROMEO scoring between a 3 and 5, our aggregate score is probably between a 4, and a 4.5, with 5's for the brews. A suggestion was also brought up that as there is a shuttle running from USC to Steel Hands, could we get a shuttle out to Sandhills as we do believe that would increase both our business and our safety. read more

I love the burgers here with a nice hazy ipa . Can't beat it! Dog friendly as heck, indoor and out door seating. It feels like there's always something going on there, whether music or other events. If you don't order the Mac and cheese bites you're absolutely mad. They are awesome and you will regret it, they come with a little ranch aioli. I came here the night before and it was the busiest I've ever seen it! This place was so busy, they had shuttle buses and people parked all the way down to the end of the street, where you turn at the stop sign, to get to the brewery. It was insane how many people were there because they were hosting a big event, "The Gamecock Central kick-off party." As soon as we arrived, I felt a little nervous because of covid, but we were able to find a table that was far enough away from people to where I felt more comfortable. Now, fast forward to the next day and I arrived here again right as they were opening to begin an all day photoshoot with Good Company Yoga. GCY offers beer yoga classes here and as a proud GCY member & also, their photographer, I was excited to get started. We ate before we started shooting photos & I ordered the Shrimp Bahn Mi. I was so excited to try it because the last time I ate Bahn Mi was in NYC about 10 years ago & it was such a delicious sandwich! I took a bite into the sandwich as soon as it was brought out & was somewhat disappointed. The shrimp was ok, but it was tossed in a very sweet sauce and the veggies in it were jot pickled like I was expecting. It was all very dry & just lacked good flavor. The fresh jalepeños were the only exciting thing on my tastebuds because they were all I could really taste. A true Vietnamese Bahn Mi starts with a toasted French baguette, then follows mayo, chicken pate, pickled daikon and carrots, fresh cucumber, cilantro and a couple slices of jalepeño. This Bahn Mi was barely that. On the bright side, I was very impressed with their staff! For them to have had such wild party the night before and be able to clean the place up before morning in such great detail was impresssive. The beer and food was awesome. Highly recommend the hazy citrus beer with the fried shrimp! Chicken strips were good but the shrimp was cooked perfectly and paired well with beer and honey mustard. The humus and pita points were very tasty. The seats were comfortable and tables large and great for gathering. This was a hosted private event for the Biamp roadshow. It does feel a little confusing when you visit for the first time, so here's a pro tip. Order everything at the counters. Beer from the bar, food from the food window. This has to be the top brewery in the Columbia area. It sits in Cayce and is only about 10 min from downtown The beer list provides a good variety of beers brewed right on site and each one packs great flavor. The space is also very open and inviting. Lots of tables and a good feel for just hanging out. As good as the beers are, some of the food may be even better. The pimento cheese hot honey chicken sandwich was awesome. The chicken was tender and the cheese create a nice contrast against the heat of the sauce providing a perfect balance. One of the best chicken sandwiches I've had. Fun brewery! Both times I have been were on weekends; one was for an Oktoberfest event and one was just a random weekend day, but wow it gets crazy busy here!!! They have outdoor things, and often have bands on the stage. Plus, they have food, which is always a major plus in my book! I liked the chicken Bahn mi sandwich. Better than average bar food, I'd say. Our crew enjoyed sharing nachos and wings (I thought the wings were just okay, a little small/dry). I don't care for many of their beers, but they brew seasonally and it's based on what the people want. Apparently the people want IPAs and fruity ciders (sadly for me - though it's the same at most breweries - there were no dark summer beers!) We came on a rainy afternoon and still had ample space for our group. We also tried the food which was tasty! I got a fried chicken sandwich with duck fat fries and my friend got a quesadilla and a side of the loaded fries. Everything came out quickly, piping hot and accurate. The beer: not many options on our particular visit, but what was available was tasty and a decent variety.
