I stopped in for a coffee and ended up really liking the space. It feels open and comfortable, with plenty of tables that make it easy to settle in and get things done. The barista was friendly and helped me pick out a drink, which I appreciated. My coffee tasted smooth and was made just the way I like it. It was also nice to have a quieter environment where I could focus without feeling crowded. Parking was simple and the whole visit felt relaxed and easy. The only thing that would make it even better is having a few more drink options, but I still had a great experience and would definitely come back. read more

I always liked Steep & Brew when they had a location on State Street awhile back, and had not realized there was another location out on the west side. We stopped here when looking for a place near the mall for coffee, and had a very pleasant experience. The staff at the register made good suggestions and they were very friendly. It's not a huge space, but there were enough tables for everyone who was gathering in the coffee shop and our drinks were very good. Since we were staying there to drink and converse, our coffees and teas came in very cool ceramic mugs that were just fun to drink out of. It's nice that this place is near stuff, far enough away from the mall chaos, and still has a nice sized parking lot. read more

I am a mocha snob. I check coffee shops for how good they're smoking is after going here for a mocha Starbucks taste like water. There's a good mix of people that work there. I buy all my beans there for a coffee shop. It's a lot brighter than the ones you find out it's actually one you can take your mother to and she won't feel a lot of place. read more

I wish I could've enjoyed this place because I live nearby and go to coffee shops often, but there are just constant mistakes with my order. I never get the coffee I order and I consistently get charged different amounts despite ordering the same things every time Ive gone. I would suggest going to Moka or Yola before Steep and Brew. It seems like they have too much going on and cant handle more than one customer at a time. read more

This seems to be the last of the Madison Steep and Brew stores, and it is independently operated, offering both Steep-n-Brew and Cafe Faire Coffee. It is a great small cafe with both tables and a number of "comfy chair" seating areas. They make great coffee drinks, and their pastries are very good. The almond cake is just amazing. read more

Our friend found this place in the West side and it was quite cozy. Thr young lady was very helpful in answering our questions about various type of teas. We ended up getting the pot tea of Hawaiian Colada. It was black tea with subtle pineapple flavor. It was very quiet when we first entered but then a huge group of high school students came in where it became quite loud. They got wifi and we will be back to try other items. read more

I visit this nice little coffee shop regularly. It's a cozy place to meet up with a friend or two or have a small meeting or just spend some quiet time reading or on a laptop. The coffee is great, and if you're not a coffee drinker, they have other options (I recommend the Italian sodas!). And who can resist pastries from Madison Sourdough? The staff is very friendly and helpful, and if you get to know him you'll find out the owner is very involved in the community and loves to serve people and contribute to events and causes. It's also a nice touch that after only visiting the shop a few times, the baristas already had my regular order memorized! read more

A cute little spot tucked away in the Market Square shopping center - enter near the movie theater sign and you'll see it on your left. You're greeted by the counter first thing when you walk in, with a large seating area to the right and a bright retail space to your left. The barista was quick to take our order and patient while we decided what we wanted. My guest and I ordered two hot chocolates - one regular and one with almond milk. My almond milk hot chocolate was a good temperature and decently chocolatey. There was a nice bit of foam on top (not always the case with almond milk) and it actually tasted even better on the chillier side (I took mine with me to finish on some errands after visiting the shop). When you order a hot drink to enjoy at the shop, it's served in a nice, heavy stoneware mug that keeps the drinks warm while you work or chat. The internet was reliable while we worked and the shop was very quiet a couple hours before closing on a Monday. I'll definitely keep them in mind for future westside meet-ups! read more

Very accommodating owner. Great list of coffee options, I had a cold brew (no coconut milk ) but they had almond, soy or oat milk options. She let me poor the milk myself. My husband wanted a cortado, which wasn't on the menu, but he made it for him. They had a light selection of bakery items and tea options but I didn't look hard. Overall, kind of a strange-feeling café. I've been to other Steep & Brew locations in Madison before they closed on State Street, but this one had a strange set up. Located as part of a strip mall on Odana Road, the interior is surprisingly large although the use of space seemed inefficient. The tables are relatively small and located along the exterior of the room next to the windows. There is a small selection of pastries, a large area for coffee, and the ice cream parlor takes up half of the interior as well. The coffee here is definitely good though and reasonably priced. In addition, they come in these nice ceramic mugs that are made in Wisconsin and make drinking the coffee quite enjoyable. The owner is also really nice and friendly. Internet is open, but lags. There are outlets located along the walls, but some are located outside of eye-level so definitely scan the wall. Like someone else mentioned before, it's also pretty cold inside so make sure you bring an extra layer! I personally wasn't able to concentrate very well in this space - it felt cramped to me and the Internet speed really bummed me out. I'm not sure if I would come here for a coffee date either because it's relatively quiet, but if you are looking for a place to stop by to get some work done, this could be the place to go. read more

Nice big space for coffee and ice cream. Was a little surprised there wasn't more retail-packaged Steep and Brew coffee available. But, they have a ton of Steep and Brew coffee beans by the pound behind the counter. Typical coffee house drink menu at really decent prices. Tried a frozen Mocha Frap....and was NOT disappointed. In fact, it may be the BEST in town! Staff is consistently friendly and competent, which is so appreciated. The boss man is often present. I recognize him from when he ran the former TCBY. He's a nice fellow. This coffee shop is worth a special stop. read more

This is one of my favorite coffee shops to go to. Coffee is great and the employees are great - they seem to know everyone! I have never had an issue getting an outlet for my computer or a nice place to sit. It's never very busy. When I need to focus and get work done, this is the coffee shop I go to. It's a bit out of my way, but it's a quiet place to focus on your work. It's a bit awkward to go to have coffee with someone because it is so quiet, so I prefer other coffee shops over this if I am hanging out with people. They run out of bakery items fairly quickly and don't stock a lot. They also do not serve food other than their bakery items, which is a big downside for me. I like to get a light lunch when I'm out working at a cafe, but that's not possible here. My only other issue I've had is with the temperature. I went here on a cold December day and sat away from the windows and I was still freezing. My toes were nearly numb and my nose was frozen the whole time. I even kept my jacket on! I'm hoping it was just a one-time thing, but is has definitely left an imprint in my mind. read more

It's a pretty decent coffee shop. There are plenty of outlets to do work, so that was a definite plus for the days when I didn't yet have internet at my new apartment. My best guess is that this is a renovated TCBY. Or, they just have TCBY labeled baby chairs. The walls are reminiscent of an ice cream shop though. Also, they have ice cream, so maybe that's why. I got a regular coffee. They do a deal if you're working there for a while, there's an option to get unlimited coffee refills, IIRC. The coffee was good. It's definitely better than Starbucks, so that's always a plus. read more

I just found out about this little gem recently when the line at Starbucks on gammon was a mile long. They have a really nice lady working there that explained that it is locally owed and the last of the "chains". They also recently remodeled and there is plenty of sitting room. The ice cream is wak. It is icy and cold. The watery base freezes which most likely causes the unpleasantly icy ice cream.

Nice coffee shop and the last Steep and Brew where I can get my orange cappuccino. We stopped in on Labor Day for an afternoon beverage. Barista was very friendly and efficient, drinks were great. The layout of this coffee shop is a little weird with the combined ice cream shop. The seating in the coffee shop portion was unavailable as they had to clean the floors prepping for an early closing on Labor Day. No big deal, as there was an open table for the four of us in the ice cream portion. I probably wouldn't choose to work here, but it's a nice stop to get my favorite beverage. read more

This place is really nice. The barista behind the counter was friendly and actually knew about the teas they served. We had a chai latte and a loose leaf tea. The latte was a little sweet but the other tea was steeped perfectly and I loved it. Overall this is a great local coffee shop that is a nice place to relax, have tea, and even grab some ice cream if you are in the mood. I work very nearby this particular Steep & Brew, and it is consistently hit-or-miss, as contradictory as that sounds. However, my most urgent complaint is that the majority of the baristas have no urgency whatsoever. I often try to build an extra 10 minutes into my morning commute to grab a cup of coffee and a pastry, and I'm forced to wait for a full 7 minutes while the one barista available slowlyyyyy makes pour-over coffee and precisely steamed lattes. I know it's a small shop, but the priorities and sense of urgency here are non-existent. Why don't they have carafes of coffee to the side, so those who are there to just get a cup can fill up, pay at the counter and get out? I wouldn't be complaining about this if it weren't a frequent and extremely irritating occurrence. Whenever I go there, I'm there at least 10 minutes before I need to be at work less than a block away and end up at work late, ALWAYS, due to a cup of coffee taking at least 7 minutes to obtain. Ridiculous. That said, the cherry danishes ARE delicious. read more

Unenthusiastic barista but the other patrons were on a first name basis with him so maybe it was b/c I'm a newbie :) Also the manager of the TCBY next door came over and they were all laughing up a storm....I can handle chit chat (I've worked retail before so I'm not too harsh) but when there is a customer right there in front of you sometimes it's better to postpone the conversation a few minutes until they walk away. Anyways; I got a hazelnut coffee and the beans were ground up right there and brewed on the spot. I don't know if this is normal (I have never had a cup of coffee brewed especially for me before) but I felt special and made up for what was experienced in the above paragraph :) The coffee was a bit weak. That in combo with the lack luster barista I had to knock off a star. They also had a long list of italian sodas that they offer and I will have to come back and try one of those out as well! read more

The baristas at Steep & Brew West were really friendly and helpful. The store itself has a great interior environment - bright, nicely decorated. The shop definitely has more personality than a Starbucks and prices are about the same. I got an orange cappuccino and it was okay - probably a mistake to get the orange cappuccino instead of the regular, but the espresso was clearly pulled correctly. Other then the usual service of most coffee shops, they have items that you wouldn't think a coffee shop has. Yes, the coffee is decent, but the service has been repetitively so abominable, that I now forgo the joe in the morning at the Odana shop, even if I'm dying for a good cup, I just can't deal with the service. One easy example, a guy who works there once was on the phone when I gave my order, a personal call. He took my order, rang it up incorrectly since he wasn't paying attention, twice. The order was for a hot chocolate and a decaf - which has to brew independently. After! the call ended and he rang me up, he THEN! started the hot chocolate. Then, after the hot chocolate was finished! he started the decaf. This was about 7 minutes into the beginning of my order. Then, with hot chocolate in hand, I waited over 5 for the decaf to brew. The whole time too he was chatting with someone about politics and I"m not sure exactly how long the decaf really took. This is how it should have gone: No phone call, DUH, the second he heard "decaf" he should have set it up to brew, then returned to ring me up. Then finish with the hot chocolate, so it would still be hot while the decaf finished, hand me two drinks in a reasonable 4 minutes, not 12. Horrible. read more

Came to the coffee shop with a group of high school students to study and got kicked out because we "didn't order enough drinks." Good thing they made room for the non existent customers at 10 on a Friday morning? Also who builds a coffee shop near a school and gets angry when students want to use it for group study sessions? We were only taking up two tables. Edit to respond to owner comment: our group was 12 people and I know for a fact that not all of them went into the coffee shop, so I'm not sure where you're getting that number. I believe that we spent $15-20 on drinks between all of us... Unless the expectation was that we each had to order to deserve a seat? The only noise complaint came from the barista... None of the other customers seemed to have a problem and I don't recall being very loud. Very frustrated with this experience. read more
