Absolutely loved this coffee shop! It's very cute & modern but still has a nice small town feel. Tried the white chocolate macadamia iced latte (I think?) upon the barista's recommendation and really enjoyed it (sweet but still coffee)! The inside is very spacious and there are plenty of outlets & tables (w/outdoor seating as well), so it's a great place to get some work done or grab coffee with a friend. My friend and I came across Crossroads while passing through town. We stopped in after lunch to get coffee. The menu featured lots of specialty beverages and the staff was very helpful and friendly. We both ordered turtle lattes and the baristas happily agreed to top them with designs. They made my friend's first, and she got the heart-topped drink in my photo. Then they attempted a design on mine, but something went awry. No big deal -- the latte still tasted great. Visited on a Tuesday morning. Location is very cute on inside, and dog friendly. I ordered a London Fog, employee had to ask another employee how they make it. Definitely not even close to being one of the better ones I've had. Would not order. Daughter got iced vanilla latte. Very bitter with no vanilla flavor. Updated review - much improved experience from my last experience a few years back. Very friendly staff and my 4-Shot Breve was pretty good. A tad bitter - perhaps... but this could be anything from the pull or the bean roast. Friend had a latte and was genuinely enjoyed. Only complaint was the milk was Uber steamed and really very hot - hard to hold the cup hot. We had an assortment of baked goods sourced from a bakery in Madison - but really good. Crossroads Coffee house was a good stop along the way. The staff was very friendly and helpful in selecting a drink. The coffee was made up quick and had good flavors. We just got iced coffee with vanilla and cream but I had no complaints. Due to Covid there was no inside seating but the inside was a relaxing atmosphere and seemed it would be a nice place to stop and get some work done or catch up with friends. read more

Nice little, family owned shop. We prefer to shop local when possible and Crossroads is worth the visit. They have a friendly staff and great selection of hot and cold beverages. There is seating inside, and better yet outdoor seating that is dog friendly!! We ordered a specialty hot tea (there are different flavors), an iced coffee and hot coffee. Definitely worth a stop if you're leaving Madison/Middleton via University Ave! We've always driven by this coffee shop but last week, we decided to stop in for a quick caffeine pick-me-up. I originally wanted a Cold Brew, but after placing my order, the barista told me that they were out of their cold brew for the day (they only had limited quantities as each batch takes over two days to make). I ordered a turtle latte instead, and the barista upgraded it to a large for me, free of charge! My boyfriend had the Sipping Chocolate, which is essentially a super rich, almost melted chocolate-like drink with a shot of espresso. After placing our orders (and bringing our dog inside cause they're pet friendly inside too!!), the baked goods were calling our name, so we ordered a scone, lemon pound cake and a slice of banana bread. The baked goods were either homemade in-house, or sourced from local bakeries. There was a huge blackboard on the wall that also showed the local businesses that this coffeeshop sources its ingredients from! Overall, this is a great place to stop by and relax, since it's slightly outside of Madison, it doesn't seem to get too crowded. Very good local coffee shop that keeps things local! read more

I stopped by for a late brunch/early lunch last weekend after pumpkin picking with the fam. We waited in a long line, only to be told they were out of the two food items we'd wanted to get. That was a little disappointing, but we revised our order and ordered coffee drinks. Then we got a table and waited. And waited. And chatted with some other tables while we waited. And walked around the hallway while we waited. And went outside to play games while we waited. And chatted with new friends while we waited. And... waited some more. There was a long line and only two guys working, and it wasn't clear when or how either of them was going to cook anything given the line never let up. I figured it was possible we'd just never get food. But then, somehow, our drinks arrived! And then our food! The drinks were amazing (had never heard of a "Cuban Macchiato" before, but will absolutely be ordering it again next time we're there. The young man who made it was a wizard! Yum!) I'd felt like a sucker for ordering "toast," but it was actually really delicious (thick-cut seeded bread with yummy jam). And the salad we got was elegantly presented and delicious; though the salad notably was missing one or two of the ingredients listed on the menu. I'm docking one star for two reasons. #1, it was odd so many of the listed menu items were unavailable *and* that the things we could order weren't served as listed. But they *were* good. #2, I wish they'd been staffed with at least one more person; waiting for food with babies/toddlers is hard, and something like toast probably shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to prepare. (Though, again, it was unusually good toast!) I'd probably try to go at a quieter time next time. read more

Excellent little place right on Hwy 14 out in Cross Plains. Stopped here on the way to a visit to Taliesan and it was just awesome. Excellent selection of Kickapoo coffee-various beans/roasts as well as offerings of both drip and pour over. In addition they have a HUGE selection of Rishi Tea as well as smoothies-including Matcha Tea offerings. I'm not a big fan but I know there are plenty of you out there who love all things Matcha!! We didn't try any of the food but they had a big selection of pastries which all looked yummy. They also have a decent looking lunch menu. It was packed on a early Saturday morning and it was loud with chatter. Not a quiet place to chill and escape if that's what you are looking for. Service was friendly. The two young gals working the counter were working their tails off. They looked a little stressed but hung in there as the line grew and grew while I waited for my pour over. It did not disappoint and was worth the extra wait. Plenty of parking in the lot out front. Don't miss this place when your travels take you out Hwy 14! read more

By far, the best small town coffee house I have ever been to. Great food, great coffee, and great service. There are a variety of choices on the menu, and having lived here only a short time, I've only tried a few. Even then, the friendly staff was willing to make something special for me (and several regulars who come daily). They have vegetarian and vegan options, including a sandwich with hummus and veggies on pita, which I tried and was delicious. But this place isn't just for hippies like me, they've got breakfast, scones, biscotti, sweet treats and all kinds of other things I'd love to have. Yesterday I had a mint mocha with dark chocolate chips and almond milk, custom made (the barista asked if I would rather have dark chocolate chips or the syrup for flavor, as some regulars prefer he chips). I've been here many. Sadly there are not may coffee choices west of Madison. The owner is smug and slow. Their coffee is good, but it can take 30-60 min to get anything from the espresso machine. It will be high quality and properly served. I'll give credit where it is due. The sandwiches are always stale, bagels are days old. So stay away from food. Don't be fooled by there sign, it my be open to invited guests only. The owner has countless invitation only events. She will leave the open sign and leer at you when you enter until you leave. My 5-star review is primarily because the iced coffee does not taste like berries, as is the case with so very many local coffee shops. It is wonderful iced coffee that simply tastes like coffee. Our family lives in Cross Plains, and we love relaxing at Crossroads. It's wonderful to have such a place in our town for family and friends to get together. I would have liked to give 4.5 stars, and the only reason I did not give 5 is because sometimes the wait for quiche can take a while during a very busy morning rush if only one person is on staff. Crossroads is one of two coffeehouses that I have visited that offer almond milk as a healthy alternative to those who avoid dairy or soy by choice or necessity. I also appreciate that gluten free scones or other bakery are usually available. Green smoothies, vegan protein shakes, a great variety of delicious teas, as well as a variety of hot and cold beverages are available in addition to organic, fair trade coffee. read more

My partner and I went for some coffee but never even got as far as ordering. The owner accosted us when we came in and told us we had interrupted a birthday party, even though the open sign was up and there were many open tables. She made us feel very unwelcome, especially as a queer interracial couple. So we decided not to order and left. The funny thing was that the woman whose child was (presumably) about to have a party seemed very apologetic and told us it was no problem and we were welcome. Local...Independent...Eclectic...Cozy...Artsy...Delicious. That's straight off their unique tri-fold advertising flyer yet it is an apt description of Crossroads Coffeehouse in Cross Plains. Serving Kickapoo Coffee Roasters coffee (Viroqua), Rishi Tea (Milwaukee), and Willie's Biscotti (Prairie du Sac), just to name a few of the locally sourced products that are offered, the menu is limited but diverse. The coffee menu has the standard fare with a few surprises. I had the Cafe Con Miel....which is made with honey, cinnamon, and espresso, for a delightful latte-like drink. Paired with one of Willie's Lemon Blueberry Biscotti, it made for a relaxing afternoon stop on my way back to Madison. A little late in the day for a caffiene jolt? Crossroads also offers bottled beer from Esser's Best, New Glarus Brewery, and Central Waters. Several artists have their work for sale featured on the walls and display cases. The second Tuesday of each month is open mic night and other musical events are occasionally offered. There are several game tables for the chess and checkers enthuiasts as well as numerous board games that appear to have all the pieces! (based on the fact three different tables were playing games during my visit) Of course it wouldn't be a good coffeehouse without free WiFi, you just have to ask for the code. I wouldn't say Crossroads Coffeehouse is a destination establishment but it's well worth the stop if you're traveling on Hwy. 14 and get stricken with a sudden hankering for an espresso and a scone. read more

Just like a mocha used to be back in the day: high quality chocolate and not super sweet, with rich dairy and satisfying coffee flavor to balance.
