I had Steffans on a Sunday afternoon. The place was very busy but we got to sit after about 20 minutes. I had the Belgium waffle and I wished it was a little fluffier and not so hard. Other than that I think the food quality was great and everyone seemed to really enjoy their meal and experience. The food was fresh and not frozen and you can definitely tell the difference in this local restaurant's food quality compared to some others in the area. This place is a joke, I went here after I first moved to Kingsland thinking it was supposed to be the local spot. Turns out this place is just a joke the food was absolutely disgusting and unsanitary. Pancakes that we ordered had a fishy taste as if they had cooked fish and then decided to not clean the pan and just pour the pancake batter on top. Our first time at Steffens. Just found it by accident. It is great. Will definitely go back. I had the Philly Cheesesteak and collard greens. Outstanding. For dessert I had the banana pudding. Driving on 95 near the FL/GA border? This place is worth the stop to sit down for a meal. A real southern gem not too far off 95. This place has a lot of character and plenty of food options. My son had the chicken and waffles and he said they were "excellent". I had the fried chicken plate with mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. The chicken was crispy, juicy, and cooked to perfection. I took the advice from other yelp reviews and ordered the fried chicken as soon as I sat down while my family made up their minds because their fried chicken takes longer than other dishes to cook. The menu even lists the time to allow for that plate. The only reason I docked 1 star is the mac and cheese was much drier than I would have preferred. Decided to eat here as it appeared to be a locals hangout. Food is homemade with various specials changing daily. I had the chicken and dumplings which were real dumplings with chicken actually pulled from a roasted chicken. The biscuits were homemade as well as the mashed potatoes. The seasoned green beans were good but they were obviously canned....hard to get everything fresh I imagine. Normally I would give this type of diner (yep, real diner...bar and all) a three star rating for flavor as everything was mildly tasty but the good feeling of mom's own cooking was wafting over me as I observed all the other plates leaving the kitchen. It appears that anything fried is good. I almost wanted to order the fried chicken after I saw it. If your in the area for work and just want americana meat and potatoes fare, give it a try. Finally went there after asking my husband to go with me several times. Waitress was friendly. Husband's hamburger steak looked wonderful. I got the whole catfish and knew it wasn't done but my husband said it was fine. However the meat wouldn't come off the bone. The second one was worse and red in the center. You couldn't even get the meat off with your fingers. Then the waitress comes up and pointedly says I look full. They would have gotten less points if my husband's food wasn't up to par. No one ever checked on how our food was only rushed by grabbing our tea glass and bringing it back without stopping. I will try it one more time in the future and update the rating then. Update: Ate there again on 10/31/14 and raised the stars from 3 to 4 This time I made sure to sit in another section and my waitress was Donna and she's a very good waitress by the way. I quickly got the feeling that I was being watched by all the staff and I'm guessing because of my first review but the whispering while looking at me and pointed fingers kind of gave it away. However this time I DIDN'T order any fish. I got the hamburger steak, mashed potatoes and fried tomatoes. Everything tasted wonderful but the potatoes were a little dried out but that's just from the cook not stirring them. My husband got the same thing with the exception of the green tomatoes, he in turn got the fried squash. Donna was wonderful and kept our tea glasses filled and my husband stocked up on biscuits. Great local joint where everything is made from scratch. I am so glad we live right down the road because I want more (when I'm no longer stuffed). We had fried pickles, yum, to start off with. For soups I had chicken and rice, which I would have gotten a picture of but I ate it before I knew what I was doing. My wife had the chili which was pretty good as well. For our the main course, I had Fried l fried chicken with mash and mac & cheese. My wife had the shrimp po' boy with applesauce and coleslaw. Everything was fantastic. I could write about it for days, but I'll spare you. Between the two of us the shrimp po' boy was the best. Not sure what sauce they used, but it was amazing. All together, this place was awesome. I took my mother and girlfriend here because my mother ate here around 40 years ago as a kid. The food was absolutely amazing, and came out very quickly. Our waitress was amazing and made sure we had everything we needed. We only brought 100$ cash with us. Before my mother got dessert she and the waitress added up the total to make sure we had enough. The total came out to 77.22 after everything and tax was added. I went to the register to pay and got told the total was 103.45 A huge difference. She had already put our receipt into a basket and we had to sit there for 15 minutes for her to find the receipt and then she added it and it came to 77.22 and then tried to say she would give us a discount price of 92 which made no sense. She walked away and we never seen her again. Another person went to the register and we explained the situation and when they put it into the register it again came out to 77.22 and she said she had no idea how the lady was getting the price over 100. She apologized for our inconvenience and we tipped the waitress the rest of our cash. I don't know how many people that cashier may have took money from that paid cash. I loved this restaurant and the food but that cashier ruined our 5 star experience. read more

If you're picky about breakfast, Prefer healthier options and/or alternatives such as almond milk for coffee or turkey bacon then go some place like Ihop. They have good food, it's not spectacular to me but it's cheap. read more

Traveling and stopped by for breakfast. A few miles off of 95. Passed ihop an cracker barrel and figured one of them would be a backup if we didn't like the looks of this place. Arrived and the place was packed. Didn't look like much from the outside and the inside was a little worn. But I like mom and pops anyway and like to support the local economy when we can. We got a table right away and the service was good. Ordered catfish, collards, eggs, toast, sausage, and home fries and a biscuit. Oh my gosh, everything was homemade or local and absolutely delicious! Biscuits made,from scratch. Well worth the extra few minutes of drive and food that the "chain" restaurants can't hold a candle to! Had to knock down just a star as the place could use a deep cleaning. Recommend and go again? Stopped by for lunch after seeing all the great reviews. It was well worth the drive from Jacksonville! The restaurant itself looks a little run down but don't let the appearance steer you away. It was pretty packed but our food came out quick and the service was quick. I had an omelet and my husband had chicken fried steak. We will be back to order something else from the menu. Great meal and staff. You can't go wrong with the fried chicken. It is cooked fresh but the wait is worth it! It was hard to choose from the many meals, sides, and desserts. My wife had the country fried steak and that was excellent too. The only downside to Steffens is that we don't live close enough to visit more often. For those reading this while traveling I95. Don't waste your time at the chain stores at the exit. Drive two miles west and have an outstanding meal. read more
