( I was hoping for fried liver, but was wowed by the great meal I chose!) I had the Holy Trinity, which had amazing Boston butt with baked beans and coleslaw. My side was southern comfort food: collard greens. The Boston butt was aromatic with the smoking that was done to it & tender. It had no need for any additional BBQ sauce as the baked beans added wonderful flavor topped with the crunchiness of a creamy coleslaw! Heaven in your mouth! The collard greens were a perfect addition. What I loved about the greens is they had some smoky (bacon) taste but it wasn't overpowering and salty like I've had at some places. It was just right and the perfect side to the meal. I found the portion just right for the weary traveler I was that day. The waitress was efficient and helpful in making a decision as to what to get. The ambiance was rustic country with families coming in for their dinners. The fountain they use for washing hands was a cute touch. And I even got to enjoy some live music before I left on a weeknight no less! And by the way the music was enjoyable as it wasn't blasting but added to the quaint ambience this place offers its customers. A definite need to go back there!

There were rolls of paper towels at the tables and your food comes in a plastic tray lined with aluminum foil and some plastic silverware. I had the centercut rib meal specifically because it comes with two sides and I wanted baked-beans and collard greens. The collards were but big unlike the chopped stuff I've had in the past and were good. The baked-beans were also good and I ate most of those too. The ribs (two) looked beautiful with the bark seasoning and they tasted good too. The meal came with some bread that did not taste good and I didn't want to eat all of it. The sweet tea was fabulous and you get free refills and already comes in a styrofoam to-go cup for the win. The service was excellent. The two younger waitresses were very nice, attentive, and helpful. No problems there. We learned from them that there is live music many nights during the week in the evening from around 5-6pm to close (I think around 9pm) Although I had a great experience at Captain Stan's, I unfortunately cannot say that the food is life-changing, which is what I am looking for with BBQ. Everything I've had here has been amazingly delicious! The fried okra, Southern-style macaroni and cheese, fried shrimp, grits, fried green tomatoes, chicken... honestly, I haven't tried a single thing I didn't love. And the sweet tea? Absolutely to die for! What makes it even better is that the prices are so reasonable, especially for the quality and portions.
