I've yet to purchase a baby grand piano and when I do, it will be from Steinway. My sales guy, Justin, is just amazing and extremely helpful and I highly recommend going through him. I visited the San Francisco gallery recently and it was like checking out a museum. The exterior of the building is already a nice piece of architecture and when you walk inside, you'll be delighted how spacious and beautiful it is inside with rows of high-quality pianos. Our journey finding the right piano for our family started years ago when we first learned that what we would like was completely out of our price range, especially a learning piano meant for children that we weren't sure would continue to enjoy piano lessons. Fast forward a few years, we decided to take the plunge starting in the pre-owned piano market. It was a long process which involved reaching out to many dealers, and weeding through doubtful Craigslist postings. Danielle, the Manager at Steinway, kept in touch with us for months, letting us know about their inventory whenever we inquired. We were trying to find a unicorn--a quality piano, at a reasonable price, that would be young enough to grow with our family for years to come. At our first showroom visit during a clearance sale, we found our unicorn--which was the first piano Danielle had in mind for us. Though Steinway boasts a gorgeous showroom of the most beautiful grands and baby grands, it does have a basement stocked with pre-owned gems. Always upbeat, patient, understanding and knowledgeable over the phone and email, Danielle was the same in-person. Lacking musical talent myself, it was a treat to hear her piano skills while trying to decide between options. Days later, we have ourselves a beautiful, like-new Yamaha piano with a silent system that will be enjoyed for years to come. Thank you so much Danielle and Steinway for making our experience seamless! I would recommend Steinway for any piano purchase, big or small. (Also, I hope this footnote becomes a relic one day, but the staff took Covid precautions -cleaning, sanitizing, masking- seriously during my visit and I really appreciated that since it was during a winter surge.) read more

I came here to try out Steinways for the first time. Alissa was really nice and gave me a little tour of all the pianos. I got to try all of them, from grands to uprights to mini-grands including their sub brands Boston and Essex. Of course, I got to try the Steinway concert grand piano as well--definitely an experience. I also got to sign up for an email list regarding free concerts, events, and more. Initially, I was hesitant to come due to the reviews below regarding sales people being rude if you're not planning to buy a piano. Thankfully, management has changed, and I didn't experience any of that. Definitely recommend y'all to drop by if you want to try the best pianos in the world! read more

We stumbled upon this gallery while walking to dinner. My 9-yr old son loves to play and dreams of someday owing a grand piano. We were the only customers in the store at the time and the attendant was very friendly. She of course inquired about our budget and I explained we weren't looking to buy. I love the Steinway Piano Gallery in San Francisco. I've been a piano teacher and piano technician for over 35 years and have lived in other major cities (Atlanta, CA, Louisville, KY, etc) and have never experienced a better place to purchase a piano than from here. After a year of my last review I finally bought my Steinway. Yes it cost nearly some people's yearly salary but it was worth it! They offer free tuning and will do whatever they can within reason to help you maintain your instrument. Lastly, ensure that you insure your piano! read more

I would give zero star if given a choice! An Asian sales lady was all smiling and nice to us when we first walked into the showroom. She proceeded to gather a whole bunch of our personal information but then quickly usher us out the door after she learned that we did not plan to make a purchase on the spot! Before we leave the store, she promised to mail us a templet so we can measure up the piano sizes in our living room. NEVER RECEIVED IT! Feel very much demeaned and betrayed! Hope they don't sell our personal information for a profit! I am a piano teacher and appreciate good quality instruments and sounds. I heard from many friends that Steinway showroom sales are often snobbish. Now I can tell you so first hand. I'll continue with my search of a Steinway but definitely not in this store! read more

People are right, these sales people are snobby! I quietly walk in so that the sales people won't bother me. I see a hall of beautiful grands lined up against a brick wall. I sit down and precede to play Chopin's Etude Op. 24 No.11 when a sales person comes up to me with folded hands and a phony smile. "HI HOW MAY I HELP YOU TODAY." Sis, I don't need help! I've been playing and gathering credentials/qualifications my entire life, I honestly don't need anymore input, especially from a pretentious salesman interrupting my playing time. He then gives me a 45 minute lecture on the history of Steinway. I'm crying internally inside; I just want to be left! a! lone! He FINALLY shuts up to take a breather and I run outta there before he starts talking about the history of paint or some shit. I never got the chance the play a proper piece on one of these gorgeous grands. I am NEVER coming back to this RAT HOLE. The sales people are SNAKES. They will try to usher you out if you don't look like a potential customer. Idk why these salespeople act so high and mighty, they get 3.5 visitors a week lmao. They should be thankful that people even come in at all. Word of advice to management: JUST LET PEOPLE PLAY AND LEAVE THEM ALONE. Yeah I get you have to ask people how they are but STOP PESTERING IT'S SO ANNOYING WHEN PEOPLE JUST WANT. TO. PLAY. Stop judging people's ability and income based on their ethnicity and choice of fashion. read more

I was helped by Audrey who was very professional and knowledgeable about pianos. I walked in with the intention to rent a piano and she explained to me their rent to own program. I'm still new to piano playing so I was hesitant about purchasing a piano in case it ends up being a short phase for me (I've only been taking lessons for 2 months now). She explained to me that the rent-to-own program is really for people intending to buy a nicer piano, but Steinway has a lot of used pianos in stock which would be a cheaper option in the long run. She let me test whichever pianos I wanted and she also played them for me and explained the difference in tones, and the difference between the taller upright and the smaller (spinet) version. She even told me about how the "action" was different when pressing the keys. I admit I don't know much about pianos, but I trusted her and I felt no pressure to buy. I ended up walking out with a nice, inexpensive Kohler & Campbell piano for myself including a free tuning. Delivery costs are added to the list price. read more
