I feel without hesitation that this is the place in Northern Illinois for German and Central European style comfort food. Nothing particularly fancy, just very solid, satisfying and tasty dishes (please see photos). I visited Steitz's recently with a group of friends- everyone on the staff that I came in contact with was very helpful, welcoming and more than eager to assure that everyone in our group was pleased. It was this warm and friendly atmosphere that elevated my rating from 4-star to 5-star. Trust me that it makes a big difference to enjoyment of a meal if it is served with a smile and a welcoming attitude. I felt that for the money, we all got very good meals- with a decent amount of choices for both entrees and side dishes. Extras such as a trip to the salad bar with your meal were ala carte and also inexpensive. The Thursday special is stuffed roast pork roll served with red cabbage and mashed potatoes and gravy; add a dinner roll and a bowl of cabbage soup and you have quite a meal for $9.95! I should also mention that Thursday is $3 bottle imported German Beer special night. They offer a very frosty mug with your beverage which is quite nice. I thought it was very cool that the chef came out and asked us how we were enjoying our meals. That was fun and added a personal touch. I was also impressed that his uniform was very clean- I am sure that the kitchen is similarly spotless. I'd like to go back some time and try the Friday fish fry which looks to be one of the better bargains in the area.

So glad they are Back having great food! The bluegill dinner is to die for brings back memories of years ago when we caught our own and had a fish fry can't beat it and their potato pancakes are amazing. Also had zwibelfleisch a German dish with sliced sirloin sautéed onions and cheese in a sweet-and-sour gravy with spetzels !!!!! Service is very good the staff wears masks and I can't wait to come back again which might be next week thanks guys

They have some of the best German food around at this unassuming lakeside spot. The Weinerschnitzel was to die for.

Good food Place has amazing German food. Although the salad bar is lame the liver dumpling soup makes up for it.

They just have to be at the top of their game. If you're out at fishing resort, and you go to the local rustic bar, that's the limbo stick you measure with. Jack and Lidia's is at the top of their game. I've been there twice, both on a Thursday night. That's the night they have a live traditional jazz band play. It's great fun I've been to establishments a dozen times and even IF they're fortunate enough have the same employees, they don't notice me, don't even care to say hi. Here, Jack was behind the bar both nights. By the second visit, he recognized us, said hello and interacted with every person in there ... and this is what I'm talking about. It's a nice, clean & comfortable place to have some drinks and unwind. Yes, it was a frozen pizza, but Jack cooked it right at the bar and made it fun for us. He kept an eye on everyone and paid attention that they felt welcome. So here it is... If you find yourself near Antioch on a Thursday and you can find this little bar ... I think you'll like it. Go in, order a pizza and some beer and relax. Also tip the band and say hi to Jack for me.

It's a big marketing scam; front desk staff pushes unnecessary add ons like: Paw Passes which come with undisclosed limitations, dinning and breakfast options with "sub par" food to say the least. When you are attempting to use the benefits you paid for, there are stipulations the front desk conveniently doesn't mention. An example is the $100 hold they place on your form of payment in addition to your deposit if you purchase said meal plans. "Common knowledge" they said is that in order for ALL charges to clear, it can take up to a week or more in contrast, they, GWL take their money immediately, but arent as quick to refund yours in the event of any error committed on their part. Lets talk about their filthy rooms... The 1st room we checked into reaked of smoke, there were cigarette debris, and an obvious lingering smell that penetrated your nostrils at first breath. There were lipstick marks on used cups that werent discarded amongst other things. Due to the obvious lack of cleanliness in this room, we were moved to room #2 in the same tower. The 2nd room was disgusting amd even worse. A night supervisor came in to inspect and was left with his mouth open from the decrepit condition it was in. There were pubic hairs found in the wolf den, urine stains, tears on the sheets, and something that resembled bugs underneath the bunks and other debris. I asked to speak with a floor manager immediately as I needed a witness to inspect the atrocities. Susan arrived and made an attempt to downplay the situation however; even she couldn't hide her disgust for said conditions and moved us yet again. Now, all this moving from room to room didn't come free; they didnt disclose that they were charging my card every time they moved us to a different room, they failed to inform us that this move made it look like I had reserved several rooms under one card. This meant that every time a clerk opened my reservation, it appeared to look like I made several reservations under one name! WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK! Due to this frustrating situation that took practically MOST of our time, energy, and patience, the kids didn't get a chance to enjoy what we paid for. They went to bed late, irritable and disappointed. This incredible story doesn't end here; there is more but honestly, I'm too tired and frustrated to keep adding on and the stress of reliving it makes my blood boil. Due to the misery and stress this caused, we checked out early. I am writing this for the moms and the families that seek a nice, worry free vacation at a place that boasts about its amenities and its family friendly environment. Dont go here. Save your time, sanity, and effort for a business that appreciates & takes care of its customers. No place is perfect, I know, but businesses can start by correcting their mistakes and taking corrective measures to ensure their patrons are prioritized. This trip took place 8-6-26 and ended prematurely 8-7-26. I have to wait for the charges to clear and will keep you all posted; yet another headache. I will add pictures at a different time.
