I would absolutely recommend Steve and Stella Roofing Services. I have to say after the job they did today, I am not surprised seeing so many 5 star reviews about his work ethic and most importantly, his communication. When I decided it was time to replace my 40+ year-old roof after consulting with Steve, he told me truthfully that he would do everything he can as a local owner and a friendly neighbor (literally one street over) to help me in any way he could to take care of my need for a new roof under my financial limits. He made sure to address any potential issues, he assessed the inside attic space and made sure he didn't see any serious concerns before making any knee jerk assumptions like some do from a visual standpoint. Whether it be from the delivery of the shingles (which he communicated with me immediately to take care of a shipment error on the warehouse side before the job started) so that the job didn't start with the wrong shingle we selected !! His price was fair compared to a couple other companies who he competes against, because he truly wanted the business so he can continue to grow to compete against the other big name companies that upsell from a commissions perspective. Everything happened as he had scheduled. His team arrived in the early morning and finished in 7 hours. Shane assisted with taking care of boarding up the existing Gable vents and cleaning up everything inside the house as well as assisting the rest of the team so that there was no trail of a mess left behind. In echoing another reviewer, after the job finished, "his entire team cleaned up so you wouldn't even know they were there." I honestly don't understand how anyone could give more than one star, I would have given zero if that were an option. I've completed previously several projects on my property with half a dozen different contractors, and I've never had an experience as poor as the one I had with Stella. 1. Subcontracted Work: Stella subcontracted 100% of the work to third-party contractors except for trash removal, which I'll address later. They likely hired cheap subcontractors and added a 20-30% markup for their own profit. 2. Lack of Communication: Communication was minimal. I was rarely informed about the next steps or timelines. Initially, I thought this was just one person's oversight, but after interacting with other employees, I realized it's systemic. The company seems to operate with a policy of minimal customer engagement unless absolutely necessary. 3. Unannounced Workers: Subcontractors (painters, electricians, carpenters, etc.) frequently showed up without notice and began working without even a greeting. On multiple occasions, I nearly called the police, thinking someone was trespassing. Most didn't wear uniforms, spoke little or no English, and simply said "talk to boss," making it impossible to understand what they were doing. Stella never communicated these details, and one of their employees even scolded me for asking the workers what they were doing. Ironically, Stella charged a "management fee" despite me having to coordinate with the subcontractors myself. These workers came sporadically one or two days at a time, then disappeared for weeks. This dragged the project out for several months. 4. No Shoe Covers: None of the subcontractors wore shoe covers, so I had to clean up after them daily. 5. Billing Issues: Stella issued invoices for partially completed work and expected immediate payment. If not paid right away, they charged interest even though the work wasn't finished. 6. Trash Removal: The only physical work done by a Stella employee was trash removal. My property was surrounded by piles of debris for months. They sent one person every 2-3 weeks, only when the trash had accumulated substantially. I had to constantly watch for loose nails and other hazards. 7. Final Advice: Save yourself 20-30% of the cost and a lot of headaches, hire a reliable local contractor instead. read more

All the laborers and project management was executed professionally and remained on schedule. This is a long overdue review, but reading these reviews were incredibly helpful for me when I chose to use Stella Construction. Erik and his team had to remove all the stucco from my house, and then replaced it with vinyl siding. He also created three decks around the house. He even helped with minor projects for my parents who live on the second floor. It is important for me to note that I should have always went with my gut and chose Stella from the very beginning. When I first reached out to Erik, he responded quickly. I ended up going with a person I knew from a friend. It was such a bad experience, and I reached out to Erik for advice on what to do in dealing with that. In the end, I chose Stella for all the needed work. I've had a very good experience using Stella for two remodel projects at my home in Medford. The first was a first floor update including the addition of a new bathroom and converting to an open floor plan and the second was for a ~500 sqft first floor addition including a remodel to an old outdated kitchen. I had a very positive experience with Erik and the rest of the team at Stella across both projects, to the point that I only bid the second project out to Stella. Erik and his team are very professional, responsive and clearly communicate when there are unanticipated hiccups/problems/overruns. I worked with Erik at Stella Construction on a bathroom addition in my basement. Erik is knowledgeable, easy going and a pleasure to work with. He came by my house to look at the space and worked with me on getting a bathroom design that worked and gave some very sound advises on how to proceed with the project while staying within the budget my wife and I had. After about two weeks of going over different ideas, we had a contract signed. My wife and I were expecting a child at the time and asked if he could help moving up the timeline, he agreed to help and got the permit process going the day after the contract was signed. Construction started a few days later. The project took a little under two months. Erik and his team did solid work and cleaned up every evening before leaving the basement. He was super responsive, replies within minutes to email, text, or calls, and addresses any concerns or changes that my wife and I had promptly. BEWARE - UNRESPONSIVE & DISCOURTEOUS Although there are numerous small details for me to recount about my very negative experience with Erik, I'm going to intentionally keep this review shorter and less detailed for the sake of clarity. First of all, I never got a chance to engage Erik's company for a repeating Snow Removal project at my residence because Erik displayed a complete lack of professionalism and courtesy while I was attempting to engage his service. A couple of days ago, to his credit, Erik returned the phone message I had to leave him. When he and I spoke then at 1pm that day, I described my scope of work, and Erik promised to visit my residence only 3-4 hours later, sometime between 4pm and 5pm that same day. Naturally, Erik never came, and never called to explain or reschedule. Worse yet, when I called him later that same night, he answered but hung up on me. Please understand that I did or said nothing that would warrant such rude behavior from him. Well, another full work day has now passed, and I've still had no contact whatsoever from this rude man. Indeed, Erik disappeared quickly like a fart in the wind. I'm guessing that Erik became disinterested in performing this job because I did not have a long driveway for him to plow easily and quickly. Regardless, his completely unprofessional behavior is both wrong and undeserved. My having read other positive reviews posted on other competing websites about Erik, I could suggest that he might be just fine when it comes to completing larger jobs. However, any Contractor who treats ANYONE in such a foul manner can treat YOU in the very same discourteous, unprofessional way even when your project has already started. And so, I advise you to steer clear of this man and his service. read more

Erik and his team are amazing. They did our addition and kitchen renovation in May-Oct 2020. They are super responsive and always happy to talk through any idea or concern. They used the BuilderTrend software and took pictures most days of any progress, which really helped put my mind at ease since we weren't living in the home at the time. Erik was really great about trying to move everything forward and scheduling the subs to keep everything on time and get us in on our move date. I appreciate all of the time and thought he and the team put into the project and into their communication with me. For instance, we had an issue with the size and placement of structural beams that were needed in the beginning of our project, and Erik got several carpenters out to the house with him to problem solve, and then looped us in and we all figured out the best solution. The final product was incredible and we couldn't be happier with all of the updates. I trust him and will definitely go to him for future projects. read more

We needed to patch our roof, there was a water leak around our bathroom sky light. Stella fixed the roof and replaced the wrong colored shingles. The owner claimed "We do our very best to match the shingle as close as possible" Yeah right, i did a quick search at Lowes and Home Depot and I found the exact color match. I hired Stella to replace my front porch, which was sagging after years of neglect by the previous owner. The project included demolishing the old structure before building the new porch and roof, along with pouring new footings and repairing some of the stucco. The crew that worked on this showed up every day were professional and courteous, and worked hard from the time they arrived until they finished for the day. While there was a few days in between the completion of the porch and the stucco to finish the project, unlike other contractors that i have hired, Stella showed up every day and didn't leave the project half finished to go work on something else.
