Personally, Stella Luna is a bit overrated for me. The hype just isn't matching the price point, and I expected a lot more considering their reputation. I tried the chocolate cake and the icing just didn't hit the way it should've for a shop that's so well-known, it looked great but the flavour wasn't what I was hoping for. I also tried their cannoli. It wasn't bad at all, but there's definitely room for improvement. The filling was decent, but I found myself wanting a bit more richness and that classic creamy punch you usually get from a great cannoli. The shell had a nice crunch, but overall it just didn't wow me the way I expected. The place itself is cute and the display looks amazing, but for the price, I thought the desserts would stand out more. I'd maybe give it another chance, but it wasn't the mind-blowing experience everyone talks about. read more

Went with my children to the Stella Luna Gelato Cafe on 142 Bridge Street in Carleton Place and will definitely be back anytime we are in Carleton Place. The cafe is connected to the Queens Crafters and Antique Market, but is semi-private. The actual cafe area has quaint seating and is very aesthetically pleasing. Finally...the gelato is incredible. I had the fudgy roman turtle in a waffle cone and it was unlike any gelato I have ever had before. There were lots of nuts and the flavor was extraordinary. My boyfriend made me discover this new ice cream shop. When we arrive the location had at least 10 people waiting in line so we had to wait outside. We decided to go with a medium size bowl. They gave us the option to select from three options. I made up my mind on pistachio, coconut, And turtle. They didn't seem to have a lot of gelato option available, I want to say six-eight. Since I am gluten intolerant, I was also more limited and my choice. they had a lot of sorbet option available but it's less my cup of tea. I personally didn't like the pistachio gelato. However I did really like the turtle Caramel flavour with pecans. I like coconut as well so it was nice to mix them together and get even more flavours combinations. They have a really cute patio outside with a little plant garden. It was really nice to sit down and enjoy this little treat. They don't have the most extensive flavor selection but they do switch up their flavours regularly. I wasn't thrilled by the 3 flavours I ended up choosing (I'm very indecisive and there was a time pressure)-- Tiramisu, raspberry white chocolate, and cookies n' cream, but I did consume the whole thing down to the tip of the waffle cone. Finally made it over to this popular Gelato place on Sunday night, to see the OFC Jazz Band. (Enjoyed the band!). The restaurant is bigger inside than it looks from outside. Rustic colours with clean lines make the decor attractive. On open concept "kitchen" lets you get a view into the Gelato making process. Steady stream of customers, even on a cold winter Sunday night tells you it's popular. Now onto the food: Surprisingly (to me at least) they serve quite a bit more than Gelato (Sandwiches, soups, specialty coffees) - however - they are known for their authentic gelato. Hubby had the Chocolate Gelato - it was less sweet than mine with a full chocoate flavor. Both were great - but I think next time I go, I'll order the chocolate. The staff was very kind. They are able to fit up to 3 flavors per cup and 2 per cone...and let me tell you it's 3 generous servings of flavors per cup! I had a mix of hazelnut, vanilla and some type of chocolate-chili gelato and was knocked out by the chocolate-chili flavor. The other two were very well done but I was just amazed by the chocolate-chili. The chili gave a little kick to let you know it was the star but didn't leave you in tears. I was only sad to see no pistachio gelato! The espresso was decent. They have the option of an affogato (gelato covered in espresso) which is always fun! Super tasty gelato! I came on a Wednesday night at 9pm and the line was out the door. There was only 2 people scooping gelato but the line went by pretty fast. Kudos to the staff! You pay with the cashier first & then get your gelato. My family of 3 adults and 2 kids were struggling to finish our 2 large cups - incredibly filling for a dessert. We got a cup of mango, passionfruit, and lychee. Lychee was all of our favorites! We also got a cup of more coffee/chocolate items. We got a hazelnut, Irish coffee, and an almond cup which all the flavors kinda mashed together but still great. This is my preferred gelato place in Ottawa! All of the flavours here are pretty good, and their waffle cones are great. I usually get the Ferrero Rocher flavour (my staple) and a random one to try. Seats can be hard to find due to its popularity, and the cashier area is kind of confusing/ disorganized. You have to line up first to pay, and then wait in line again to choose your flavours. It doesn't feel as efficient as getting the cone and then paying method, which is usually what is employed (maybe because I have to wait twice and I'm not the most patient person...). Protip for those of you who sleep later: Come on Sundays after 9PM to get 40% off! Great mix of flavours from sweet to naturally tart and clean environment. The crepes were amazing and the coffee was the perfect pairing to even out the sweetness. Our little one love looking into the case and the lady didn't make a fuss about the inevitable fingerprints and even let her try a few samples of her choosing before she mowed down on mine. This place was amazing! I've tried gelato maybe once or twice in my life before coming here, and this time I went overboard. WOW! It's really good! Apparently there's an easy way to make gelato - with water and flavour packets, and then there's the way they make it here - with the real juices of the flavours they're intended to be. Did you know they've been making gelato since the late 1800s? Who knew? I did not. WOW! The staff here was very friendly and knowledgeable, not to mention totally helpful, and allowed us to try many many maybe too many samples before we finally sat down to try 2 of what ended up being in my top 3 favourites: chocolate orange, and to my surprise, pistachio! But NOW I see what I missed: pralines and cream gelato??!?!? I adore that flavour of ice cream; how come I didn't get any of that in gelato?! Maybe it's because they change it up every once in a while, just to keep the menu fresh. As other reviewers say, SLGC also makes good coffee, and they do offer other foods and snacks. I've been here twice, both times were met with long line ups - one was so long it was out the door and down a couple shops! Even with the long lines, the staff at Stella Luna still manage to pump out orders with big smiles. My favourite so far is the ferrero rocher which seems to be a staple. Kudos for the staff - I can't imagine how busy they must be day in and day out, hour after hour. Part coffee, part café, and mostly gelato Stella Luna is shockingly large on the inside and with friendly employees and plenty of seating I took my time making my decisions and after asking for a few tastes (including a particularly boozy "Rum Raison") I settled on a trio of Biscotto, Piemonte Hazelnut, and Ferrero Roche - each shining examples of their hallmark flavors with notes of anise and almond in the biscotto, smoky aromatics abound in the hazelnut, and the Ferrero Roche the best of all - a flavor identical to the signature truffles. Chose this particular gelato over others purely based off its award and online following. I had absolutely no clue of the price (found it relatively pricey), so was quite surprised upon arrival. We lined up for a few minutes, and thank God we came earlier, for any later and we would have lined up out the door. The four of us ordered two large gelatos to share; one had the flavours rich chocolate, hazelnut, and tiramisu, while the other was madagascar vanilla, rich chocolate, and grapefruit guava. The chocolate gelato was indeed rich, bitter in flavour at first and then progressively sweeter. My absolute favourite was the hazelnut - it was absolutely delicious and addictive! I kind of regret not ordering more of the nut flavours (which I knew was good and popular) such as Ferrero Rocher, Pistachio, Almond, etc. My sister ordered the tiramisu, but also found it overly sweet. She also decided on the grapefruit guava, which was very interesting... it was both bitter (due to the grapefruit) and tangy. Though none of us were great fans of it, we found it a good palette cleanser (like ginger for smoothie) to use when switching between flavours, or when you find something too sweet! Finally, the vanilla kind of fell flat. As this was our first time eating gelato, we had no clue that it's such a filling substance. Consequently, we couldn't even finish the two large sizes (leaving some the chocolate, guava, and tiramisu behind). When we walked passed the store at about 9:00p.m. later that day, to watch the fireworks on the bridge, we were astonished to find that the line had now extended to be almost a block along the street!
