Dao is located in the ugly (subjective) but functional shopping strip on Merivale. Parking is a crush on weekends, but several lots are joined so as long as you are ok with a brief walk, all good. As you walk in, the contrast from outdoor ugliness to indoor airiness and people happily chatting is surprising. What is Dao doing here?! It's a good surprise. The interior is stunning. Bright and airy, white punctuated with black. Plants break up the space. The seating was full, but turning over, so we got seats by the time we needed them. Service was excellent. Hubs enjoyed his croissant and I loved my Dacquoise, very flavourful.

We've been here a few times and haven't had a pastry we didn't like. We've tried the evil garlic cheese bun, the salmon croissant, the pistachio rose croissant, and the blueberry cream cheese danish. The macaron we tried (sweet corn) and the drinks were just okay. We also really enjoyed the ambiance with the indoor trees aesthetic.

I was in Nepean for my oldest's baseball game and the ball diamond had no restrooms. A full bladder forced me in the car to find the closest spot with a restroom. So grateful it did, otherwise I would have never found this incredible gem. Apple Maps brought up Dao Cafe. I was surprised to see it is open until 2200 and I fully expected it to be empty. Boy was I wrong. The cafe, which has lovely restrooms, was bumping. They offer a wide variety of coffees and teas. Will definitely be back to try a caffeinated beverage the next time I'm in the area before dinner. The pastries and desserts all looked incredible! I ordered the pistachio rose croissant and it was amazing. Such a unique flavour. Definitely recommend!

LOVED the ambiance in here. the seating was set up so well, the place was so comfy, great study or social spot. service was great, really kind. the dessert item was really good! I wish there was more peach or more cake and a little less of the souffle mixture but alas that might just be personal preference

Very aesthetic! The pastries are good too. It's one of the only places I went to in Ottawa that reminded me of stuff in the SF Bay area. Individual reviews: Matcha latte - a little bland according to my bf - perhaps too much milk Rose latte - good coffee flavor, rose wasn't overpowering Tango - it's adorable! The outside looks like colored white chocolate which made it hard to break into and a little too sweet imo. But the mousse was very yummy and I loved the crisp at the bottom! Earl grey mille crepe cake - very good! Strong tea flavor and very light Evil garlic bun - I microwaved this and ate it 2 days after I bought it and it was still pretty yummy. Tasted strongly of garlic cream cheese white peach macaron - I got it bc it was pretty looking but it tasted pretty good too. It was a little too much cream filling but it did balance the amount of peach jam.

Two months ago, we stopped by this bakery to try out some of their cakes. The cafe looked cute and the decor was very modern. Everything looked very appealing. We decided to try out the mango passion cake, taro mille crepe cake, and Japanese white peach shortcake. I also got an iced HK style milk tea. Unfortunately, the cakes were way under par. The mango passion cake was very sour. The white peach shortcake was pretty much all whipped cream and didn't have much cake in it. The taro mille crepe cake was just flat. Did I choose the wrong desserts? On the other hand, the HK style milk tea was pretty good since it did have a strong tea flavor.

Dao Bake & Sip Cafe is a cool newly opened Cafe. They sell some baked goods brought in from Toronto, but they also have goods baked in house. They sell drinks like coffee and tea as well. The inside is beautiful and everything is expensive, lol. Those familiar with pastries from Asian bakeries found in Toronto will recognize the names. They have cheese tarts from Pablo Cheese Tart. They have Cream Buns from Hattendo. They have macarons from Daan Go Cake Labs. Their croissants are baked in-house, but are a collaboration with Chris Kwok, of Chokwoklat fame. They use coffee from Hatch. Being from Toronto, this place makes me feel a bit closer to home, haha. I got a chocolate croissant ($3.85), a White Peach Cream Bun ($4.60) and an Amaou Strawberry Cream Bun ($4.80). The chocolate croissant was very crispy and flaky. It tasted fresh and was delicious. Not too greasy. The cream buns were soft and the filling was fluffy and airy. The peach bun had real pieces of peaches in it. The strawberry bun had real pieces of strawberries in it. The place looked immaculate. Service was courteous. I do like that the prices of most items are the same price as they are in Toronto. The prices of the Daan Go and Pablo Cheese Tart items are the same. There's a slight mark up on the Hattendo items but just between $0.25-$0.75 more. The cafe is located in a strip mall. There's free parking in the shared parking lot.

Came by after skipping the massive lineups on the weekend checked out this new cafe and bakery. They have a lot of items here and some of it seems like they're cross promoting with other bakeries or they have similar names to other bakeries. I only picked up a peach and pistachio tart on this trip and it was excellent. One of my favourite things the tart is that it wasn't super sweet. I'd definitely come back and grab a 6 or 12 pack the next time I'm here. They're still on a soft opening and I did encounter a few hiccups but I have no doubt they'll get through them. I'll be back...but only if I keep exercising or it'll be bad for my waistline

After moving from Toronto to Ottawa, and not having a lot of these cute Asian desserts here, I was so excited that Dao cafe opened in Ottawa. It's such a cute concept since they brought together several separate brands of desserts like Pablo, Hattendo and Daan Go. I had the cheese tarts, which were yummy as usual. The original is always good and the matcha has mochi balls and a bit of red bean in it. It's also a few dollars more than the original. I also tried the Hattendo cream buns finally, but honestly it was very underwhelming. I don't feel like the texture of the bun suited the cream. I got the plain cream one and the peach cream (seasonal) but the flavour of the peach one was very light. I don't think I would get these buns again. I didn't get anything from Daan Go but the macarons and cakes were very cute! Also, there was a huge line because they had just opened. We waited like half an hour but someone came out to offer us iced jasmine tea infused with fruit as samples, and it was delicious!! Those teas are a bit expensive (I believe it was like 7$) but I would probably get it next time!

Such a cute dessert spot in Ottawa! Definitely some creative flavors and items for a dessert lover. Love how the items aren't too sweet too. I loved everything we tried and I'll have to go back to try the rest! Highly recommend the strawberry cake and strawberry matcha.

I've been here a few times now and have tried most of their desserts. The majority of it is alright, not great. The drinks are fun but also not amazing. Overall the taste does not correlate with the pricing. You're paying for the esthetics more than anything. I wouldn't come back on my own unless I'm entertaing out of town guests.

Popped up in Yelp happening list and I always pass by after MOVATI . Quickly getting to the pros and cons Pros 1. The variety of Asian inspiredcroissants and buns : macha , sriracha , custard , red bean you name it . I was like a kid in a toy shop 2. The quality of ingredients / well you know it when you eat it . It's the best if not premium 3. The ambience : chic urban . Spacious , with a good mix of bar booths and chairs 4. Barista : pretty knowledgeable and made an excellent macha 5. Parking : strip mall convenient Can be improved 1. The ordering was a bit of a chaos . 2 counters manned by baristas and pastry team did result in couple of no shows for beverages I will be back to try more treats and soak in a better experience

Good selection of baked goods and they also sell coffee, lol ;) The Long Version: The Bower Coffee Company opened up about a year ago in the summer of 2024. Usually I like trying out new businesses that open up in my neighbourhood, but admittedly I'm not a coffee connoisseur. I doubt I'd be able to tell the difference between a $50 cup of Kopi Luwak and a cup of Folgers instant coffee, lol. So coffee shops don't really excite me. However, I recently learned that Bower Coffee Company sells baked goods from a business called Adam Bakes. I've been wanting to try treats from Adam Bakes for a while now, but they are only open on Saturdays 8am-12pm and not in my neighbourhood, so their limited hours have prevented me from trying them. I didn't realize that they also sold their baked goods to other businesses for resale, so when I discovered this, I planned a little coffee date for my husband and I at The Bower Coffee Company :) I chose a Cinnamon Swirl Blondie from Adam Bakes ($4.85) and my husband chose a Peanut, Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip cookie from Art-Is-In Bakery ($5.25) and we got a regular 12 oz coffee ($3.25). The coffee tasted like any other coffee to me (unsurprising, lol). My husband is more of a coffee connoisseur than I am and his comment was it was a bit too watery, but otherwise ok. I loved the Blondie. It was rich and I think there's cheesecake swirled into it because it had creamy bits to it. It had a potent cinnamon flavour. I really enjoyed it and so did the hubster. I ended up hauling my butt out to Adam Bakes the following Saturday morning to try their other offerings, which weren't available at Bower Coffee. Adam Bakes will get its own review. I noticed that the prices are cheaper buying directly from Adam Bakes than at Bower Coffee, but I guess that's not surprising. The cookie was unremarkable in my opinion, but the hubby enjoyed it. It had whole peanuts in it as well as peanut butter and chocolate chips. It was soft and chewy, and the whole peanuts gave it the occasional crunch. Service at Bower Coffee was great. The barista asked me for the Blondie if I wanted a centre piece or an edge piece. I know some people like the crispiness of edge pieces, but I prefer the softness of centre pieces, so I was happy to be asked. The decor is clean lines minimalist. It's not a huge space, but has a decent amount of tables. It was bustling on a Sunday morning. Overall, a nice place for a coffee date, albeit a bit pricey in my opinion, but I get it, everything is expensive these days :/ We walked there, but it's street parking only for those coming by car. The wait was over 30 minutes for a K-dog and 20 minutes into the wait they told us they ran out of hotdogs so we had to get an all cheese corn dog or veggie corn dog. Ugh! So the place is ultra hipster, lol. It has an industrial vibe to it. Prices are on the high side. It was $11.99 for a K-dog. My husband also got a Decaf Americano ($3.50). So we ordered a Half n Half "The Works" K-dog, which is a half mozzarella cheese, half hotdog corn dog topped with Okonomi sauce, Kewpie mayo and bonito flakes. I asked them to go light on the Kewpie and they obliged. Service was friendly. Our visit was during the Covid-19 Pandemic and the staff were regularly disinfecting high traffic areas like the door handles, which I appreciated. They also limit the number of people inside, so since our order was to go, they asked us to wait outside, and they would bring the order out. Fine by us. It was technically Spring, but still chilly out. They brought out my husband's Decaf Americano quickly, which he appreciated as it kept him warm. He offered me some, but he drinks his coffee black (which for inscrutable reasons I find an attractive quality in a man, but it's not how I like my own coffee, lol). However, we waited 20 minutes before the staff member who took our order came out and advised us that they ran out of hotdogs and we could either have all cheese or half cheese and half veggie dog. We opted for all cheese. It took another 10 minutes for us to get our food. The cheese was very plentiful and had extraordinary pull, lol, but it was almost too much cheese (can't believe I'm actually typing those words in that order, haha). I would have definitely enjoyed it more if it was a half hotdog and half cheese corn dog. The toppings were good. The Okonomi sauce was slightly sweet and the Kewpie mayo was creamy and I loved the marine taste of the bonito flakes. Those who dislike fish might want to stay away though. The bonito flakes had a definite fish smell and taste to them. The breading was crispy and I'm glad I got to try the K-dog, but I personally found it overpriced for what it was. The inside is cool looking and it would actually be a great place for a date once this Pandemic is over. Note, the address is on Parkdale but the physical location is at the corner of Spencer and Hamilton. We had a hard time finding it until my husband spotted the sign with an arrow pointing towards the cafe as we crossed Parkdale and Spencer for the second time looking for it. Street parking only.
