Located within downtown, so it's always busy. The food here was pretty alright imo. No matter what is ordered, it'll turn out quite good. I had the cafe breakfast which comes with: two eggs, ham, bacon or grass-fed beef sausage, hash browns, toast & Stella's jam. But I had the "big boy" version, I think they call it. The difference is it comes with all the meats offered and more eggs, I think. One gripe I have, though, is they don't offer gravy. You know, like poutine gravy on the side. How can this be so? IDK, but sucks because having a whole bunch of taters with no sauce is quite dry. Other than that, the service is really good, but good luck with parking. read more

This location of Stella's is at the corner of Portage and Memorial Blvd., just up the street from the Winnipeg Art Gallery and across the street from the Bay. There's a nice, hip, café-style menu with reasonably priced selections of soups, sandwiches, salads, baked goods and a few main dishes. I came in around 4:00, after touring the blockbuster centennial exhibit at the WAG. I was famished, but scheduled to have dinner in a few hours, so I decided to kill the pangs for a while with the quiche of the day, which comes with a side salad, and coffee. The quiche had a bruschetta style filling of tomatoes, basil and some other veggie ingredients. The custard in the quiche was exactly the right texture and served warm, but the flavor was a bit bland. The dressing on the side Caesar was also a bit bland, for my taste. The plate also came with a couple of buttered slices of the cafés cheddar and jalapeño-spiked sourdough, but again, the seasonings weren't assertive enough for my taste. Granted, I'm a visiting Yank and, at least in the past, Canadian cuisine was never famous for being highly seasoned. Perhaps that aversion to seriously spicy food lingers on, so Stella's has had to tone down some of the seasoning to suit local taste. Everything looked good, and it tasted fine, but this gringo would have welcomed more zip! Service was fine and Manitoba friendly. I'd like to come back again for breakfast and give them another try. The menu has a lot of appetizing sounding omelettes, among other breakfast delights. After a second visit and a sample of different menu items I'll be able to tell more about whether the meal I ordered this afternoon was just unusually bland, or if this is the general trend! There were also a number of appealing looking desserts and baked goods that I bypassed since I was going to be having a full dinner later, but those also could tempt me back. This is my go to restaurant in Winnipeg. It's hard to go wrong at Stella's. I find this location in particular to be very consistent. The staff are friendly and prompt. The food is prepared well. Pancake breakfast is a classic; the arugula salad and daily soup is great for lunch and the dragon bowl is delicious for dinner. If you're looking for a snack try the grilled cinnamon bun. The americano is pretty tasty and my favourite in town (disclosure: I'm not a coffee connoisseur). If you come during the day you may be seated facing the sun and it can get bright. I can't understand how Stella's has become some kind of Winnipeg institution with their bland menu that is consistently poorly prepared. I had the curry last time I was there and it was an insult to Indian food. My tongue kept yawning throughout the entire meal it was so bad. This place is super popular and has great service, but between boring curry, veggie burgers swimming in too much sauce and overpriced sandwiches, the food is just god-awful. I'm usually not a fan of "health food" spots but this place was very good. I was in Winnipeg for business and learned about this place from the hotel consierge. Glad she referred us to this spot. I had a vegetarian yellow pineapple curry and I must say it was pretty tasty for a vegan dish. My friend had a burger that he stated was very good as well. Nothing is deep fried here as they don't have a deep fryer so everything tends to be on the healthier side. All I'm all a good spot, came here twice during my 4 day stay. read more

The presentation of the food was lovely. The menu description didn't give the food justice. It was cooked well and tasted great. There was a bountiful portion. Good selection, plentiful portions, great value, and awesome location. Parking may be a little difficult at peak times, but it is definitely worth it. You can have an awesome, very filling breakfast for under $10 or many of their 'lunch' items for under $15. From what I remember, the majority of their all-day breakfast items are served with a heaping portion of cubed hashbrowns, toast, and their homemade jam. Perfect for mornings after long nights. I just moved from Victoria, and I would say I was very happy with Stella's for a late breakfast/brunch location. I am very hesitant to give five stars, but if they are deserved, what can I say...I went here for breakfast yesterday and couldn't resist returning again this morning. AND...I had the same meal. The coffee and orange juice were both good. I had the pancake breakfast. The pancakes are light, fluffy and delicious. I had ham one day and bacon the other. The bacon was crispy and the ham was a country ham that had a wonderful flavor. I had potatoes yesterday and they were very good as well. There are a lot of reviews that rave over the jam. I thought it was OK, but nothing exceptional. The service, both days, was perfect. This is one of those places that I would visit regularly. read more

I cannot say enough about my first visit to Stella's. Even during a busy afternoon rush (clearly a popular place), the staff was so attentive without being ingratiating from the second I walked through the door. I had an almond milk London Fog (with an impressive foam, for almond milk!) and the Vegan Breakfast, which was so delicious and filling I took home over half. Great selection of Vegan/Vegetarian, and while the only technically GF-prepared items are a flourless chocolate torte and some yummy chocolate cookies at the counter, they have excellent substitutions for dishes that normally come on or with bread. Good, depends on what you order. I have gone many times, and I've only been disappointed a once or twice. Most dishes come with seeds; very bird food like but manageable. Would definitely recommend over the university cafeteria for those students who go to UofW.
