Please note: Our waitress on April 18 was great. This 1-star review relates specifically to our experience with the manager by phone the following day April 19. My mother, sister, and I went to Stella's on Grant on Friday, April 18th and each ordered the house salad with chicken. The service was great, and the food tasted good. Shortly after, all three of us began feeling unwell with similar stomach-related symptoms. None of us had eaten anything else that day. The next morning (April 19th), my mom called the restaurant to express concern that the salads may have caused us to feel unwell. When my mom explained that we had all gotten sick after eating at the restaurant, the first thing the manager said was that Stella's only uses the freshest ingredients. My mom clarified that she wasn't calling to make demands, but simply to report that we had all eaten the same meal at their restaurant and felt ill with similar symptoms shortly afterward. The manager said she would notify the kitchen, hoped we felt better -- and that was it. To add context, my mom and sister have both regularly ordered that same salad from this location in the past without any issues. We understand that illness can happen for many different reasons, and we weren't expecting the restaurant to accept fault without first conducting a proper review. Even so, we had hoped for a response at the outset of the call that reflected care and concern -- one that acknowledged the situation, prioritized guest well-being, and reassured us that it would be taken seriously. While the manager did eventually say she would inform the kitchen, that only came after my mom made it clear she wasn't asking for anything, like a comped meal. Further, while the freshness of Stella's ingredients is relevant given the concerns we raised, for the manager to lead with that -- as her first response to a customer reporting that she and two family members became sick shortly after dining -- came across as defensive rather than empathetic or solution-oriented. I appreciate the manager may not have been in a position to assume responsibility on behalf of Stella's for our illness; however, simply making us feel heard, taken seriously, and treated with care would have gone a long way. Overall, the way our concerns were handled left us disappointed. read more

The best Stella's location in all of Winnipeg. The food is as excellent as it looks in the photos attached. Excellent, quick service and the ambiance is very home-like. Much better than my experience at the University of Winnipeg location (which is not a good location I think). Be prepared to wait though if you come during peak times, especially over weekends and holidays! I will say, the prices here are quite expensive compared to a place like The Original Pancake House, but the higher prices here are 100% worth it for the high quality food you will always get from here. You can never go wrong with this Stella's location. Their house salad is amazing, as is their blueberry buttermilk pancakes. Yum! This location will always be my go-to, and although I do not live in Manitoba anymore, I always make it a priority to come back here when visiting! read more

Everyone who lived in Winnipeg quite long will enjoy this local ownership place. My love to this place started when I used to work there as a line cook but I only worked for a month coz I had a different opportunity. Went for breakfast early on a Saturday. We were seated right away and our server was quick with water and our drink order. He clearly knows that caffeine is important. The cafe mocha and latte were great. The maple French toast with blueberries (extra because they were out of banana) was tasty and filling. The homefries were good too. The oatmeal was a healthy portion with brown sugar and blueberries and almond milk. The rite toast with 'their jam' was really good. A definite must to try. Service was quick, server was great. I always love the ambiance in Stella's. It has that neighbourhood special feeling about it, even when the food is a bit of a miss. Rolled in for a weekday breakfast treat. Normally their cinnamon French toast on brioche is a homerun but today it was a bit normal. Good portion size but seemed to be missing that special flavour. The Chorizo hash was a miss. Basically two eggs on some chopped up sausage. Nothing special. The service was very friendly and the manager was an all-star making small talk and making one feel welcome. Nice. read more

Stella's has always been a great lunch place for me. I love the food, especially their salmon benedict. This is my go-to dish every time I come here. It's a nice change of flavors from an original egg benedict. The rosemary scone is a nice compliment to the salty salmon and sour spinach and lemon sauce. The potatoes are always fantastic at this place. They're perfectly salty and crispy! I will say I'm not the only one who enjoys Stella's. This franchise is popular. And this location is ALWAYS busy. Stella's seems like the place to go for brunch in Winnipeg. Not only is it super popular, it really seems like the only place that does brunch in town. Luckily, there's several of them. Well done, Stella. You seem to have somehow monopolized Winnipeg's brunch scene. It's got a casual vibe and plenty of hustle bustle. You'll find both young professionals and young families. When it comes to the menu, it seems like there's a bit of an attempt to push some boundaries, but keep it rather traditional as not to scare people. Step out of your comfort zone and try some sunny side up eggs, Winnipeg. You can do it! To avoid the Lengthy lineup, they were very accommodating of letting us order our food to go. It was really fantastic to have that option. Thanks for helping us out Stella's, I really appreciate it. I'll be sure to come back the next time I'm in town. I enjoy dining at Stella's - it's nice that they have been expanding all over the city. The Grant location has been around for sometime and it's always packed with a massive group of people waiting to brunch. The scenery is basic restaurant type, not as beautiful as the Stella's at the Plug downtown locatoin but the service is still very nice and laid back. Food pumps out pretty quickly and their food is very consistent compared to all the Stella's in the city. Definitely, come about 30-45 mins ahead of time but that can be said for many of the other locations. I love their Veggie baked eggs ($9.25) - I just get mine with two eggs and spinach and cheddar cheese and omit the mushrooms and tomatoes but that's a personal preference. The eggs are topped with salsa and served with hash browns, toast & jam. Yum. Provolone roast chicken sandwich ($10.45) is another good choice. You really can't go wrong with breakfast here but just have to be a bit patient with the sometimes pushy crowd at the front. Upside is that there's plenty of parking in the stripmall area. read more

I love Stella's, sad that locations have been closing. AMAZING VEGAN CHOCOLATE CAKE!! They are very accommodating when it comes to replacing certain thing in a dish, seasoning preference, and so much more! They do usually have a wait but it is worth it! I have been going for years and some employees have quite literally seen me grow up! I highly recommend a Caesar salad with shrimp and replacing the bread with a side of rice and beans and salsa. I don't like eating bread so that's how I stumbled upon this amazing side dish! 10/10 recommend!! read more

This is a solid 5-stars on food, 3-stars on service/atmosphere. It seems to me that Stella's has the "not-actually-a-problem" problem of being too good and popular. They seem to have out-grown their staff/kitchen/location. Clearly very popular, there was a line at all times, but no real waiting area for those people, who all ended up being in the way and awkwardly staring and those seated. Additionally, there were constantly several tables that were empty, but not sat by the hostess. I assume this was to not overwhelm the server or kitchen, but it definitely gives a poor impression to the people crowding the doorway, trying to figure out why they can't be sat. We initially walked in and walked out when we saw the wait, but a venture to other nearby options left us unsatisfied, so I check back and the wait seemed shorter. The tables are rather close together and I definitely was violated by the rear end of an older man as it smooshed against my back and neck while he tried to navigate the room. That being said, the food was spectacular. The menu is diner/cafe meets hippie co-op. There were tons of vegetarian options, everything appeared to be scratch made and there was everything from breakfast sandwiches to pasta. I enjoyed my breakfast croissant sandwich and was happy to be so full at the end of it. The side potatoes were a little disappointing - they came through with a strong flavor of rosemary, but no other seasoning. The rosemary was overpowering and they kind of fell flat. Husbands sandwich was stacked high and delicious. They don't have outside salad dressings or condiments - which is great in terms of being an awesome, wholesome, scratch cafe. But then I need you to actually make/provide a house-made ketchup (which isn't hard!) Overall, it was worth the wait, delicious, filling and inexpensive. read more

Best breakfast place in Winterpeg. I lived there for less than year, and this is one of the 3 restaurants I liked in that city. It's a nice little joint with good food and good people. The list can get a bit long on the weekends, but it's worth the wait for a nice big breakfast. I would always just get the Cafe Breakfast, and it was more than satisfying. My husband likes the Chorizo Hash. They also had a green smoothie there (I cannot remember the name of it), but I know it had kale and ginger, and some other stuff in there that didn't sound too appealing, but man was it good! A breakfast institution, as far as I understand, in Winnipeg and it does not disappoint. They have food that's prepared with very fresh ingredients and has a large menu from which you can choose from. I choose the ham and cheese omelette, hash browns, and multi-grain toast. The omelette had nice big bites of ham and lovely melted swiss cheese. Not too salty (which they can be) and the hash browns were nicely browned on the outside and tender on the inside and seasoned with rosemary. The toast was excellent with their homemade berry jam. If you're looking for a great breakfast place, I highly recommend trying any Stella's in the city. read more

Came to this location for the first time the other week for breakfast. The waitress was really awesome and the hostess was also really sweet. It's nice to be greeted by someone with a smile when I'm feeling tired and grumpy. It really starts the dining experience off right! I had the Mexican breakfast (which I've had at edna fedya) the portion size was almost right. I ate everything on my plate but still had a little hunger. The portion size at edna fedya was waaaaay bigger. But the food itself was really tasty and done right. My bf had the grande café which he devoured (good sign). Last night I returned again and had the famous garden burger. The patty alone has nice flavour and taste but the burger is leaning on the dry side but as a vege monkey I understand it's hard to make a fatty juicy vegetable patty (it's like an oxymoron). The chutney and cilantro sauce try to make up for the dryness. The coleslaw that comes with the burger though..... can I haz recipe!? it's absolutely delicious. I think it might have some sriracha in it..... I also had the chocolate torte which is always great for a chocolate craving. Their house dressing made with nutritional yeast...I asked for the recipe!...is absolutely delicious. The patio allows dogs, which is lovely. You can hear Bob Marley, Madeleine Peyroux and the Buena Vista Social Club in one hour. It's perfectly eclectic. We love Stella's and have been to every location in the city. The Grant location is our least favourite. The food isn't prepared as well and the restaurant temperature is always cold even in winter. There seemed to be a lack of attention to details with our order and little errors were made. Still, it's Stella's so even being our least favourite location it's still an okay dining option. With a few tweaks (more attention to the food, more comfortable temperature) it could be great just like the Sherbrook location! read more

Stella's Cafe does not take reservations past 9AM on Saturdays. If you are going to go, make sure you either get there early before the rush or always have a backup plan because it's guaranteed that there's always a wait. The nice thing with Stella's is that there's various types of ethnic food to choose from aside from the typical bacon and eggs for breakfast and sandwiches for lunch and pasta for dinner. The cafe is always quite loud, the food is mediocre and the service is meh because of how busy it is. However, it somehow still is one of the most popular meet-up places for friends to catch up over breakfast/lunch/brunch. While the food is good, and the ambiance is nice, my experience with upper management left a bad taste in my mouth. I'd been a Stella's regular for years. I found out a few months ago that I had been told incorrectly by a server many years ago that the chicken was freerange. I had eaten a lot of chicken there under that impression, and was upset to find out the server was mistaken. I would not have ordered the chicken otherwise. I spoke to Grant Anderson, who apologized for the mishap. When I asked about server training, he indicated that servers are trained, but that he, "can't fix stupid." He also said he would send a gift certificate to account for the oversight, but didn't. When I followed up asking about it, he did not respond to my email. read more
