Paid nearly $1200 for three people at @ $65/hr to dig one hole and replace a stop and waste valve at my father's house. My father requires attention on a daily basis as many, including his family, neighbors and friends know. Gave Dick the benefit of the doubt and trusted him to do a routine irrigation-related service at a fair price. After some back and forth with Dick about the invoice amount, and asking how is it that three people digging one hole is not stupid, he threatened me with some sort of physical attack over the phone and called me a "nigger lover" before hanging up. I'm writing this review because I have no other option. His invoice was paid. read more

Requested removal of tree roots in grass, and to place lawn fabric, then special rocks. Dick marked the area to be removed, in a swerved contour, then killed the grass. Came back and his team removed the dead grass. We then went to choose rocks to be placed. We chose Pink Sandstone for the one area; close to house and larger blended rainbow 4" rock for an area closer to the gutter by the street. Both turned out beautiful! Dick and Heidi then took us over to purchase a special tree- Cherokee Chief Dogwood -to be planted in the Pink Sandstone; by the house. This tree is already attracting small robin! The job undertaken was a back breaker. The soil, if you can call it that, was about as dead as soil can be and hard as rock. They removed all the soil and laid the sod. The area is now about as beautiful as it an be. Many thanks to Dick and his crew. read more

DO NOT HIRE. There is little I care about more than my garden. We are extremely disappointed with the destructive nature of dicks service. We have been successfully growing a beautiful, lush and full garden for years here at this house. After paying for weeding and a few plants (half of which has still NEVER arrived). Months of working with them holding their hands, showing them each thing to do and where exactly to do it, communicating clearly. We now have a sparse flowerbed out back speckled with damage. They seem to ignore what services we've requested or state that they'll do it "next week". It's been 4 weeks of being told "next week". They are extremely liberal with their application chemical poisons and pesticides, even AFTER we requested that they not use it anymore. There are bees and pollinators dying all over our yard. The first time they visited they killed over 80% of the reseeded flowering plants in our yard. We let it slide, those seedlings were new and small but we informed them. Then the next week they sprayed and killed 100% of the perennials in an entire section. We asked them again to take it easy with spraying poison, and requested they replace the plants they killed. We then spent 3 days replanting areas and handweeding the out of control weeds because the spray has killed everything but the weeds. Another visit, even more sprayed and dying perennials! This time the dianthus and 10 out of 15 established purple pentstemon! Doubt they would be willing to replace everything they killed, though they should to avoid these types of reviews. I've never seen such a willynilly disregard for paying customers requests. Week after week. They still refuse to take the weeds OUT of the flower beds and we can't figure out why. There has been an audible sigh when we requested for them to do the flowerbed, we hate weeding too! But we hired them for some help. It is confusing because they came to our neighborhood seeming like they wanted the job of weeding and mowing our yard and gardens after we walked through and explained to him how particular we are. They visited again yesterday, though an unheard request was made for them to not come at all this week. They showed up, mowed the grass down to its bare roots (continuing with weekly mowing when we asked for biweekly since the grass has been cut so short for weeks it's suffering) and SPRAYED things again! Waking up this morning to see even more carnage in our garden and yard was the last straw. What they killed yesterday were flowers that were gifts from our best friends at wedding! Can't replace those ever! We communicated thoroughly, got affirmative reactions from them stating they understood we didn't want anymore flowers killed, just the weeds out. But the plants are dead from being poisoned. We have been extremely patient, reasonable and communicated our needs thoroughly with the guy. But when they decide they don't want to take out weeds, and doesn't really care what kind of damage caused then parobably it's time to part ways. If you need plants and flowers weedwhacked (who weedwacks daffodils you ask? These guys did) and poisoned. They work really quick. The initial labor put into installing edging was phenomenal, the guys worked really hard. Is it perfect? No, but they did a good enough job for how hard the work was. The stakes keeping the edging in are rusting sooner than we expected. But that's just material quality. Bottom line is can't deny we asked them to stop spraying/killing our perennials, we showed them exactly what we were talking about, they continued to spray things out of either ignorance or spite. They have not replaced what they said they would replace. The laborers do not seem happy, that could have something else to do with it too. I would be more than happy to update this review positively if they tried to make things right. But judging from the other reviews I will not hold out hope. So disappointed read more

I am very disappointed with this company. I hired them to mow my lawn and there was zero communication about when they were coming, and honestly no evidence that they came as often as they say they did. I never got a bill, and it didn't look like my lawn had been mowed. Then I got a phone call from the office saying my bill was overdue, which I tried to discuss with them, but then they sent the bill to collections. This company is very unprofessional, and possibly fraudulent, so I would go elsewhere. read more

Richard and his team did excellent work on our front and back yards. From first contact to final payment, everything was awesome. Richard's estimate was detailed and the pricing was very fair. Our shrub/flower beds were seriously neglected -- they needed weeding, clearing, installation of landscape fabric, transplanting plants, removing rocks etc. Richard and his team were prompt, professional, very skilled and fast! They made improvements that i didn't even know i needed -- like shrub trimming/pruning -- but were very much appreciated! i would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone! read more

Had an appointment for a consultation some weeks out. Made the appointment with their scheduler who called promptly after we expressed interest. We waited some weeks for the appointment. The day came. We had the backyard all clean and organized. My husband stayed back from work. NO CALL NO SHOW! Called to see what happened. NO RESPONSE. read more

These guys did a great job trimming our out of control trees away from our roof. They did an efficient job and really listened to what we wanted done. My wife loves our trees and was afraid they would look overly trimmed. The trees are now cleaned up, but still have a great shape. We will hire them again. read more

Had a large Pine tree removed with some other easier trees. And of course needed to do something with the hole in the ground. Richard listened to my ideas and wants and steered us to a nice sculptured landscape with raised ground cover, bushes, trees and some great accent boulders. I had a wonderful experience with Step-A-Head Landscaping. I called around 10 different landscaping companies and they either weren't good about answering their calls, didn't provide all the services that I needed, or were charging outrageous prices. Step-A-Head landscaping was very responsive. The owner came to look at our lawn right away and gave me an estimate that was WAY less than many other companies that we had called. They also were able to everything that our yard needed. Our front yard had a lot of issues and our back yard was basically a field of weeds. They were able to schedule a time to come in and they did the work in TWO DAYS! I was so impressed with how hard the workers were working. We have worked with other landscapers in the past, and Step-A-Head Landscaping was by far the best. They cleaned our patio and took out some of the junk we had left in the back. They even sprayed down and cleaned our BBQ. Really they went above and beyond. I would recommend them to anyone. read more

They are absolutely deserving of 5 stars. Dick was responsive, honest and forthright. And he and he crew exhibited a great work ethic.
