I used them once before for a small job. They did well, so I called them first for a bigger job. I hired them to trim a large branch that had broken off onto our roof about 30 feet up. It was in a dangerous position so they came right away and got it done with their boom. In the process they noticed a few other branches and took care of them for nothing extra. I got bids from five tree services to trim two trees and these guys were the highest by far. 2.5x higher than the second highest bid. They do a lot of advertising so I guess that's where a lot of it goes. Also there's extra cost of having a person just for giving estimates. Downsides could be details not conveyed to the crew or having to explain it again. On the plus side, they were available fairly quickly. Or is that a bad thing? I guess if you have an emergency and need tree work done right away and money is not a priority, give them a call. But if you have time, always get multiple quotes and check their insurance and licenses, don't just trust their word. read more

We'd called around to get a few quotes and they were in line with others, but a little less if we had them do all the work. They were very responsive and easy to schedule. They showed up on time and did great work. In the process of removing an additional stump that they weren't even charging us to remove, they accidentally hit a sprinkler line. While they take pride in being Veteran owned and operated, this is a business and everything is about money and costs. I was initially quoted from Rent-A-Monkey almost $3k; 4 small aspens - ($750), 1 blue spruce - ($750), Thin 1 deadwood maple($1300) Remove 1 dead shrub ($150). My husband and I are retired and could not afford $3k. After stewing over the costs for a couple months, we opted to do it ourselves. Four exhausting days and 1 injury later we managed to cut everything down, except one limb caught on the power line. So, we called Rent-A-Monkey (again), thinking they would see our efforts/injury and help us a little. We were quoted $650.00 to cut one limb (literally brought me to tears)! Needless to say with the help of a caring neighbor, we got the limb cut and tree down. We had around 10 or so trees growing along the property line we share with a neighbour and needed them gone to build a fence. The crew arrived by 8am and were done with everything, cutting, removing, stump grinding and cleaning up by 3:30pm. I was super impressed with the speed and the clean up they did. I hired rent a monkey to cut down a couple of tree, remove some sort of vine & rose bushes. I was told they would call me the day before they came out bc I had to be home so they could go over everything and make sure i would be satisfied with the work done. The call never came and they just showed up and I did not even know anything until I came home and saw my tree was gone. I thought everything looked good, ok no big deal about not receiving a call, but 6 months later the rose bushes started to come back. I did nothing to these rose bushes to make them come back not even watering them and I think my son drove over them a few times. LOL ;) These rose bushes were big bushes and must have been there for years for them to continue to keep coming back. I called and asked if they could come look at the rose bushes and when the owner came, he seemed a little upset and put out, or just having a bad day. He removed them again, but the rose bushes came back again and I called them to ask about them about being removed again and they told me they would call me back and I waited for two / three weeks and no return phone call. I would not be that customer but they charged me $500 to have these things removed and to have them continue to come back is very frustrating!! I even recommended rent a monkey to my neighbors but now I do not know if I would be so fast at giving them a recommendation. When you pay for job, the customer should be satisfied with the service or the company own up to doing the job correctly. Had to finally remove an 80' spruce that was starting to pose a threat to our home. I called them on Friday, during a windstorm when they were exceptionally busy. The arborist showed up within hours and gave me a great price! The crew showed up the next Monday and had the tree down, stump ground, everything cleaned up and gone in about 45 minutes. During the recent destructive windstorm in Salt Lake City, an enormous Ash tree in our back yard uprooted and fell on our roof. I turned to Home Advisor and Gregg Nelson at Rent-a-Monkey responded quickly and viewed the catastrophe the next day. Because of the position of the tree on the house he felt that removal by crane would be safest and within a few days he and an agent of a company with large equipment met with me and put me on that company's schedule. Within two weeks the tree-except for the very large upended root ball-was removed from the roof to the front curb and then hauled away. Although his company was not finally responsible for the removal, Gregg has been extremely helpful in seeing the project through, and made every effort to keep the removal and restoration as economical as he could. He worked with the crane company, keeping me posted on what it was doing to haul the 10 foot high pile of large logs from the front yard. After the final removal was accormplished, he then arranged for a stump grinder to pulverize the stump, root ball and 5 x 10 ft. piece of turf attached to it, all perpendicular to the ground. He sent one of his workers, Tyrel, to saw off the 4 feet of trunk the crane company had left, so that the stump could be ground, a herculean task for only one worker. Gregg answered my many phone calls without fail in a timely manner. At this time, when tree services are incredibly busy, I am very impressed with Rent-a-Monkey. Based on my experience with Gregg and Tyrel, I consider this company to be an extraordinary business and recommend them highly. read more

My daughter just moved into her first home. So as a house warming gift I had rent a monkey come out and trim the trees to spruce up the yard for my kiddo. THINGS DID NOT GO WELL!!! Greg the owner is the most arrogant contractor I have ever worked with. The way he treated my daughter and I is completely unacceptable. He has a way of talking down to you that makes you fill unbelievable belittled. The way he was treating his helper was horrible. The poor guy was so flustered he couldn't even think straight. Then after making my daughter and I fill completely stupid he throws a curve ball and starts flirting with my married daughter. At that point she felt super uncomfortable and went back in the house. The work they did was so bad I had to call Diamond tree experts out to fix the work that I paid over $800 for.
