Do not hire Step-by-Step moving. They moved my neighbor in over a year ago, they got their large moving truck stuck in my driveway and it bottomed out causing damage to my driveway, hedge, berm. They promised several times to take care of the damage but failed to follow up.despite many attempts to seek remedy. My contact was John he had other people call me to arrange meetings only to have them not show up, or even tell me that they apwerent the right people to do the job. I have moved numerous times in my adult life and this company is the worst I have ever had. Heavy snow was predicted for the day of my move. They assured me that would not be a problem. On the day of the move, after we got up early and waited several hours, they canceled, and we had to reschedule for the next day. It would have saved a lot of time and aggravation had they decided to cancel when it was clear a blizzard was coming. The company has a printed list of things to do to prepare for the move. One is NOT to pack items in drawers and cabinets. They prefer to move the furniture with the items. When the movers arrived on the day of the move they realized the furniture was too heavy and they threw my clothes, papers, etc. into boxes. That later made my unpacking so much more difficult and time consuming. They lost the legs to my sofa, they ripped the paper shade of a lamp, they destroyed a Container Store wardrobe. I still cannot find the mate to a shoe. This is a very unprofessional company. Their work is terrible. read more

However, the day of our move - I got a call from Step by Step about 15 minutes passed the expected arrival time saying they had an issue with their original vehicle and are en route. The truck that arrived was... entirely too large for the permits I got from the city. I wish this contingency was planned for, I'd have paid for another permit. But it was too late - so we improvised. The truck ended up having to block the street for a short time. Some local drivers gave me an angry glare - but most saw the truck and drove around understandingly. Luckily, the arriving location had plenty of room for this massive vehicle. All that to say - the movers were super quick, treated our stuff with great care, and did a remarkable job. They were kind, good folks! And the cost for service was competitive- to our advantage. We hired Step by Step to move us from Boston to NH in late June, and we couldn't have been happier with the service we got. The three-men crew showed up on time with a large moving truck and quickly got to work moving the boxes we had out of our tiny cramped apartment. They even gave us tips on how to re-pack things so that they wouldn't break, and I was grateful for the advice as everything made it in one piece (besides our old floor fan that was half-broken to start with). Even though it was the hottest day of the summer (100 degrees!) in our apartment with no A/C, and everyone was drenched in sweat, they were amazingly efficient and never once complained. When we got to our new home, they moved everything out and into the rooms we wanted faster than I could even run out and grab lunch. We were astounded. Every step of the way, they were friendly and professional, and we were really impressed by their strength, stamina, and expertise. Best of all, the actual price ended up coming in under the quote we got online. We understood that this was because our new home was very easy to move into. They moved my fragile plasma TV and my very heavy real wood piano without any issues. 3. Truly an incredible experience! Booked it 2 weeks in advance. The cost was incredibly reasonable! They came exactly at 8 am ET, moved everything in 1 hour (thought it would take at least 2 hours). Everything was packed incredibly well, incredibly carefully, and with all needed coverings to keep them safe. Put everything in the new place, built everything very efficiently, and even offered to get missing screws if we needed from local Home Depot. What can I say, incredible experience! Quoted price was much lower then charged price. For example storage was quoted at $300 then charged $500. Charges 3 hours for moving in and 3 hours for moving out of storage unit where it only took 2 hours to unload and unpack the truck into the house. Most disappointing part was driver of truck decided to run into one of my trees with the truck doing serious damage to a very old tree. Pay a little more and go with a quality company. Absolute nightmare move, worst I have ever experienced in the Boston area. I hired step by step for a one bedroom move. 1. I paid for 3 movers, when the 3 movers showed up they refused to work because some of my items could not fit in the elevator. After they sat in their truck in front of my building for 90 minutes, 2 of the movers came up to perform the job. 2. My items were dragged across the floor and street rather than being lifted. No hand trucks, furniture protection, or any standard moving equipment of any kind was used. My bed frame was destroyed, my leather recliner lost a foot, my leather couch was completely frayed, my chest of drawers became unusable, boxes were smashed. In addition the move took over 5 hours (6.5 when you add in the time before the work began) and I was charged for 6. 3. The next morning I received a settlement offer that was both inadequate and possibly fraudulent, where I had selected replacement value insurance and the quote was based on the cheaper insurance option. I am still working on getting this settled. 4. The "moving consultant" was unable to get his employees to work and scheduled them to perform multiple moves so they were exhausted. No additional or replacement movers from the company were available so I was stuck with the 2 guys that showed up. To top it off this moving consultant Gleb deactivated his phone so now I have no way of reaching him. Again, a total nightmare, do not use Step by Step. read more

Great experience with Step By Step. We moved from a 3br to another 3br within town (1.5 miles away). I saw that their rates were reasonable and they had stellar reviews on Yelp, so I reached out. Started with a few email interactions with Gleb, who set up some time to come over my house to take inventory of the furniture that we'd be moving. The next day, I got the quote back, which was much better than what another moving company quoted me (by several hundred dollars) so we went with them. Double checked with Gleb a couple days before the move and he confirmed that we'd still be on. On the day of the move, the crew (Igor, Jordan and Arthur) was to arrive between 7-8am; they showed up right in between at 7:30. Took a quick walkthrough of the house before signing the job sheet as starting at 7:50. The best way I can describe their work is "no-nonsense;" they worked very quickly and efficiently. They thoroughly shrink-wrapped or taped moving blankets over every piece and got them down the steps with ease; we lived in the 2nd and 3rd floor of a 2-family unit and they were able to haul down some very heavy (and expensive) Italian-made solid wood pieces like it was nothing, and without a single scratch. They didn't take any suspicious, prolonged "breaks" and ding you for it like some other companies do (according to their Yelp reviews). I was actually pressing bottled waters into their hands because they were pretty much working nonstop and it was HOT that day. All in all, Gleb's quote turned out to be the exact price I paid at the end of the day. I would definitely recommend this company, they are true professionals who respect both your home and your belongings. Hired these movers for my 1BR apartment after "Requesting a Quote" from ~15 businesses about moving for a 1BR. They had the best rate of all the moving companies by far, at $89/hr for two movers, which was totally sufficient. The low (comparative) cost didn't mean a decrease in quality. They expertly and quickly wrapped up and disassembled the furniture that needed it, and unwrapped it and reassembled it in the new apartment. The entire process was entirely painless and made moving a lot less terrible! The one thing is my laptop was in my backpack (with no protection, no case or anything), and glass on the back of the laptop somehow broke. However, Step By Step was willing to fully cover the cost of sending the laptop back to the manufacturer to getting a replacement, and were really helpful in making sure I was totally satisfied with the move, even with this honest mistake. Gleb, Yegor, and the rest of the team at Step by Step were extremely helpful and I had absolutely no problem moving all of my belongings into my new 1-bedroom apartment in the Allston/Brighton area! They arrived right during the 1-hour morning time window that they specified, and were able to not only load and unload all of my boxes, but also disassemble/reassemble and carefully pack a lot of the bigger or more delicate furniture in only a couple hours. I'm sure my back will thank me a million times over, because disassembling and moving all of the heavy furniture out of my old apartment would have taken me at least twice as long, and I would have inevitably broken something. The whole experience was a breeze, and executed so well, that I was surprised it was over so quickly without any stress! The movers also really tried to make sure to accommodate my needs as much as possible with regards to furniture placement in my new place. I sent out messages to local companies and Gleb immediately contacted me to gather additional information in order to provide an accurate quote. Further, he worked to ensure we remained within my budget. The request process was simple and efficient. Fast forward to the day of the move - Alex and Jordan showed up ahead of schedule (they politely called me to advise they finished early and would wait at my apartment until I arrived). As soon as I arrived, they jumped into action and were able to completely load the truck with my one bedroom in less than an hour. I would not recommend this moving company. We initially thought hiring movers would make the move less stressful, but it did not. Similar to other posts, we had a move window and the guys showed up 1.5 hours late (and after going to a wrong address in another part of Boston.) We had to call to find out where they were. It was disappointing that they were not even communicative about this mistake and the extreme delay. When they arrived to move out our 750 square foot apartment (We had a one bedroom with only a few pieces of big furniture), we were quoted that they whole thing would take about 4 hours to load and unload at the new place, which we agreed. There were 3 men and my husband moving things out and it took them 4 hours to move everything out from just one location. I understand the work went longer than expected, but then we hit rush hour traffic. When I arrived one of the three guys was outside sitting on his phone, while our place was still not packed up. They broke a large decorative mirror, but insisted we pay full price for the 4 extra hours and just call the office the next day. When we called the gentleman took days to get back to us about a refund for just the mirror, and this was only after we followed up with him about the refund. I expected much, much more from this experience and I am disappointed with customer service. The guys were perfectly nice, but lacked a sense of urgency and competency. Almost nothing got damaged (the few tiny dings that happened were my fault for not packing things a little better ahead of time); it was definitely the right decision to hire movers rather than try to get my friends/family to help! Leave the heavy lifting to the professionals, that's what money is for! The only hiccup that happened was I originally hired two guys, but then when my circumstances changed and I was moving to a larger apartment and kept all my furniture, I was supposed to have three guys; on moving day, only two came. So there was some mixup on their end, but it wasn't a big deal. Three guys would have done the job faster but it also would have cost more, so I think in the end it was a wash. read more

For a couple of guys that were not body builders, they sure are strong. I am fairly strong for my size, and I cannot do what they do. Just like the name says, they move you through the process step by step. They take all of your information by phone, confirm it with you by email. They call you about 30 minutes before arriving, and they call again as they are arriving. Although I had a small apartment moving job, it was done in under an hour which I thought was great. I am no expert on moving prices, but I thought the 330 dollar range was fair. They were polite and ready to go, professionally wrapped everything and they always went the extra mile. Being from Watertown, they service the greater Boston area, including Wakefield which is a plus for all aspiring moving companies. Because everybody wants to live in Wakefield. Everybody. That is why housing prices are sky high. And all of you people that want to live in Wakefield and around Wakefield will need a quality and professional mover. And these guys are it. From the customer service representatives to the actual movers. I have seen the other reviews for local movers, and they are alright, but none of them compare to this company. They said they would be here by 9 a.m., and they were here before 9 a.m. with a call that they were coming. Our crew consisted of Igor, Ovidio, and Alex, and we thought they were a great and friendly team. Ovidio was extremely personable and friendly, Igor had supernatural strength, and Alex was the source of witty one-liners. I was quoted a 2 hr arrival window during which they were supposed to arrive. 30 mins after that window, I got a text that the first job was taking longer and they would be 2.5hrs late. I get that things happen, but it would have been nice to get a phone call earlier if they anticipated being late. We ended up not being moved in until 9pm and the friends coming to help us unpack had to leave before then. When they arrived they were nice and efficient. The truck had a lot of blue grease on it which got all over our boxes and duffel bags and was smeared throughout our new apartment. They gave us another mover to make up for being late, but the whole experience wasn't great. I actually just ended up moving carloads of items to our new place while we waited for them to arrive. I had also inquired about pricing via their website messager but never got a reply. Turns out you save 5% if you pay cash. That would have been nice to know. Also, there are hidden fees for use of furniture wrapping, tape, supplies, etc that added an extra $50 or so. We usually have friends help us move.
