Came by for a foot massage the other day and it was a world class experience. Step In Reflexology takes walk-ins only, prefers cash, and also takes credit cards. Pricing is the same for foot or body massages. Like my previous visit, the therapists chat amongst each other and with the owner, making it slightly harder to relax. Foot massage started off in the communal room on the street level in an IKEA-like lounge chair. My therapist wore a pair of loose vinyl glove for each leg that ripped as soon as he started the strong massage. My therapist was very strong and spent the entire hour massaging my foot, leg, and thighs, all while fully clothed in an open communal room. What a fantastic spot. If you need a quick fix - come here. That said --- this is a casual place so snobs not allowed. I would compare it to getting a pedicure done. You are sitting around with other customers while your feet are getting intense and yet wonderful reflexology by someone very experienced. My masseuse was SUE and she was WONDERFUL. She was very strong and put a lot of energy into her work which says a lot because to massage people all day must be exhausting! It is, as I said, very casual. The photos people have posted are accurate. Seems to be a popular spot, for good reason! When I got to Step In the woman at the door said 30 min wait and let me sit on a chair inside to wait. About 10-15 mins later they were ready for me which was a pleasant surprise! I did half reflexology and half body massage. For the body massage she took me downstairs to a small room with 3 massage tables. There are dividers between each table and everyone has their clothes on. I cannot speak more highly about my experience at Step In Reflexology. I even told my hotel concierge about it. (But again - if you like zen garden /music/aromatherapy kind of massages only this isn't for you.) This place is for someone who just wants some good bodywork - asap. After several days of walking ten miles, my travel buddy and I were sore, tired, and worn, and when we found ourselves in Chinatown with some time to kill, we opted for a quick massage to soothe our aching bodies. I steered us towards Step In for its solid reviews, and I was not disappointed. "No frills" would be how I'd sum up the joint. No decor or ambiance to speak of, and the downstairs is bordering on frightening, but everything is clean and professional. Well, kind of. But you're not here to relax, you're here to get the crap kicked out of you by a small Chinese woman while she chatters in Cantonese (I think) to her fellow masseuses. I paid £25 for a 30-minute shoulder and back massage and I definitely got my money's worth. Although at times I wasn't sure whether I was being massaged or assaulted - from the elbow in my mid-back to my calves being pummeled - I walked out feeling noticeably lighter and more limber. And although I was a bit sore the next day, the aches and pains of travel were gone. This is one of the best kept secrets in the Chinatown area. Been on your feet all day on Oxford Street? Your new shoes/boots pinching just a bit too much? Well, can I tell you about Step In Reflexology, which can be found in a small alleyway just off Wardour Street - it's almost opposite C&R Cafe for those of you who know it. It's a lovely shop, which isn't as dodgy-looking as some other reflexology places which have sprung up recently in Soho. They do the most relaxing and soothing reflexology massage on your feet. There are different prices for different lengths of treatment but I usually have half an hour. They sit you in lovely comfy chairs, wrap your feet in warm towels and then a lovely wonderful massage of the feet, mainly on the soles but also a bit around the feet and ankles as well. Being trained in western medicine only, I'm not sure about any scientific proof for reflexology being able to cure diseases in other parts of the body but it's certainly wonderful to get a foot massage after a day's shopping. They also offer hand massage but I've never tried that. Next time you're in the area, having done too much retail therapy, take a load off your feet. By far the worst service i have ever received. 1 minute into my massage i had to walk out because one of their customers and receptionist were assaulting me. I arrived first and waited 20 minutes to get my massage. A different customer walked in after me and they serviced him first claiming there is some kind of policy where the workers take turns. Ummm ok. So thats fine. But why am i not being serviced? Because im only doing half an hour and this guy is doing an hour? Finally i get my massage chair and the entire time im sitting, every worker is speaking in chinese and i hear them say the world "policy" over and over. Finally im like, i know youre talking about me and they go, oh we're explaining to another customer. This other customer happens to also be chinese and goes oh we're not talking about you, that would be rude. Im like... but you obviously are. Then he goes on and on about how im a lady raised in america and how im not ladylike. Oh im sorry that standing up for myself is not ladylike. Did we hop into a backwards time machine. He then insists multiple times that if im unhappy i should leave. Im like, im fine if you stop talking to me. He never stopped. He went on and on and on. And mind you the entire store is yapping on and on in chinese. Im chinese and ive never been so ashamed. I have gotten massages in multiple countries and have never been so disrespected. Do not go there to admire the premices! It's quite ugly (but clean)! But go,there to enjoy an efficient massage. I took the full massage, head, shoulders and feet. It was £45 for one hour. I can say I have a "big" body, 1m85 for 115kgs... However, it was a hard massage for me! Sometime painful... Definitely a no-frills kind of place. Compared to my former go-to tui na and reflexology places in NYC this place (and I guess most in London) are definitely pricier. Still, I'm not necessarily looking for spa-quality and mainly just need shoulder/back relief from hunching over computers and weightlifting, and this place fits the bill. Only did 30 min (25 quid) and tipped 5 since it was a strong massage. The guy who worked on me managed to fit in a full body (back, arms, legs, shoulders) in 30 mins which was great and he didn't skimp. Cons would mainly be that there are no doors on the "rooms" so other patrons can see you and you can hear literally everything. but again, not a place for frills.... read more

I was looking for an authentic reflexologist in Chinatown, and decided to visit Step In after reading these reviews. I have been 3 or 4 times for reflexology initially and then the head / shoulder / foot massage. Which is amazing, and probably one of the consistently best places for massage I have ever been to. Very well priced also, £45 for a quality hour can't be beaten. Agree with the commented above - the cubicles are very basic, but I don't mind. This was a surprisingly quiet respite from several days of nonstop walking and standing and standing and walking. The decor is pretty nondescript. You'll walk in off the street into a salon-like setting which is reserved for foot and leg massages. If you opt for the £45 hour long massage, you'll be led downstairs to what I'd like to call "the opium den." Don't be alarmed, the beds are clean and there are signs that specifically say "Please Don't Remove Clothing: It is an OFFENSE!" So you know what kind of place this is. I knocked out hard during my massage. That's how relaxed I was. And even though I stepped out feeling like a little Chinaman had beat the living crap out of me (and yea, that's almost how strong the dude was), within 10 minutes I felt like a new man. This place is legit. All the other reviews are correct...this is a bare bones place, no frill or fanciness anywhere. In fact, I got a back massage downstairs in these little stalls they have; - My masseuse laid down paper towels on the table instead of a nice towel - Its located right by the stairs so people are CLOMPING up and down the stairs the entire time you are trying to relax and get a massage - There were people on either side in stalls that were being super loud (one guy siiighing WAY too loud for any normal massage, and two ladies chattering away in Chinese) - There is a sign telling you to keep your pants on because taking them off is disrepectful. :) Taking all that into consideration, my massage was really good. My shoulders were completely wrecked from a month of travel and carrying a heavy laptop bag on one shoulder. I am still sore, but very happy with the massage. It was....after all...£45. read more

This is not a spa. its a place to go if you have sore muscles and travel fatigue. Ambience is weak, don't expect candles or aromatherapy, this is all about TuiNa ( Chinese medical chiropractor style massage). I don't know about the others, but the old man, Sam who worked on my back and shoulders did an amazing job. After 10 days of flying around Europe, eating mostly bad food in pretentious restaurants and cafeterias prepared by novice chefs, walking and falling on ice, I was looking for a proper legitimate massage place. When I walked out of there, the pain on my shoulders and neck were gone. The last time I felt this good was two weeks ago when i woke up in my own bed in my home, before I got racked up 15000 miles. I really needed that... And it was goooood! Sure, looks shabby and crappy. But damn! My foot-acupressure session was great. He really got rid of my headache and when i told him to focus on my kidney and throat...? I really wanted to like this place.... Sigh - my favourite reflexology place in Vancouver has definitely spoiled me for anywhere else. It was busy on a Sunday, since they don't take reservations we just had to come back in about 30 minutes and hope no one else had joined the queue. I opted for a session that was half body massage and half foot reflexology. Body massage was good - definitely worked the kinks out of my back, but then the foot reflexology session was weak. Same masseuse but where the body massage was firm, the foot session was weak. Prices look to be on par with other places in London but compared to places in Vancouver and California, just not worth the price. read more

This place is amazing. I've had back problems for ages, and this pretty much fixed all of them. There's an upstairs area where you can get a foot massage, and a downstairs area to get a head/shoulders/full body massage. The masseuse definitely knows tuina/acupressure, and the prices are incredibly low. Easily the best massage I've had in London. It was simply ridiculous. My worst massage experience ever. Waited for 1+ hour, the staffs led me to the massage room, got changed, laid on the massage bed, then the staff came to tell me that they "do not want to give me the massage today". Maybe I should come another day again. If you have no intention to provide any service, why bother to make your customer wait for more than an hour for nothing? The staffs are absolutely unprofessional and disrespectful. It is a massage place that would bring you stress, instead of a relaxed body. Just had a half hour back and shoulder massage for £25 and highly recommend Step In Reflexology. The massage was very thorough concentrating on all my knots and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Nightmare!!! The woman who did massage for me, It was not professional and English skill was so poor. I told her 2 TIMES please do more strong but she didn't change!!! Not for the faint hearted. Good strong acupressure from this no frills place. This is not the tickle your feet to help you relax massage. Dont let the interior comments in these reviews put you off. Step in is run by wonderful staff, jessica runs the reception.. Yes, the staff chatter, and the rooms downstairs are dark, but the staff and premises are very trustworthy and concerned to ensure you get a great massage, the trousers on sign, by the way is a stipulation of the local Westminster licence and should in no way reflect on the establishment. Many local london Chinese use the premises so that is generally a good recommendation. Prices are very reasonable - £20 half hour, £40 full hour and you can mix and match treatments. Just tell Jesica what you want. I generally leave about £5 tip for 30 mins and £10 for hour but that of course is up to you. For a real treat try 30 mins back and neck and an hour on feet. £60 for the best 90 mins ive had in a long time. great place - highly recommended. To begin, I have very tense muscles. Because of my scoliosis (and the intense walking I've done over the past five months as a study abroad student) the muscles in my calves have become unbearable. I cannot walk, sit, or lie down without being in pain. I decided to pop in here because it would only be a half hour out of my day for a foot massage, and it was definitely worth it. I asked the man to not go too deep into the tissue on my calves (it's so tight I was afraid it would recoil later and become worse) and he did fabulously. I walked out without limping and had a very pleasant experience within. The shop is very clean and they offer water afterwards, which I recommend drinking to flush out the toxins released from massage. Decided to boycott due to perpetual rudeness. Used to be a regular but when you become a familiar face, they become rude. Examples: 1) was told off for paying by card and not cash 2) when I asked for discount for being a regular, the reply was "since when you've dropped to such lowly levels as to ask for discounts" 3) was accused of receiving funds from father and boyfriend and thus have an easy life unlike them. they dont even know what I do for a living so they should shut up. This was amazing!!! i went because the reviews seemed to be so good and it was walking distance from my work, but the ratings were true! i had an hours reflexology session. They wrapped a bucket with a fresh plastic bag and filled it with water for me to souk my feet in then threw the plastic bag out right after! very hygienic and most importantly a very good quality massage! they knew what they were doing! thing to keep in mind, its cash only so make sure you come with cash in hand. read more

This place reuses towels on ALL their clients! As in they DON'T wash them after they rub (really hard and rough) on you, the whole "massage" was done with the nasty towels. I basically got exfoliated with dirty towels! Now. You may ask, HOW do I know the towels were dirty? Well, after my really not that good massage, I saw my masseuse nicely fold the towels she used on me and put it back on the cabinet where she took "my towels" out!! Need more confirmation?? There was/is only two towels in that same ONE cabinet. The same cabinet she took the towels out for me, she put back after they were used one me! There was no beds when I got there and I saw an old man came up, then I was sent downstairs). I was/am so disgusted!!! I ran home and took a long, long, long shower. I kid you not, I was itchy the whole time. Honestly I don't even think they wash their towels daily. For the price, I think they can afford a laundry machine/dryer, no? I feel so bad writing this, as the staff is nice. But I am truly disgusted and I wish I knew/read about this. I hope I don't get a skin rash tomorrow. read more
