A nice place with horrible seating. Easy in and out, the theater seems to be almost cozy, comfortable. The seating, however, is horrible, as at the end of the seat cushion in the back there is something very hard, so you can only utilize 3/4 of the depth of the seat to avoid pain. Just bad. We watched &Juliet, and it was mediocre. It was an okay performance, but after you leave, you don't take any emotion with you, no melody, nothing. The Sondheim Theater, originally known as the Queens Theater, opened in 1907. It underwent significant transformation in 2019. There were originally over 1900 seats, now reduced to 989. This is a very comfortable theater to enjoy a show. I sat in the orchestra, next to last row. My seat was great. Ample legroom and a clear view of the stage. The lounge, located a level below, was larger than average and staffed by matrons who maximized efficiency with the deluge of women coming in during intermission. I noticed the Sondheim has an elevator, which many older theaters lack. Yay for the renovation! I once commented that people will see a show regardless of the theater. I actually proved myself wrong. I vacillated over two productions. Looking at available seats, I read Yelp reviews. The seat I would have bought in the other theater was limited view, not posted on any official site. For what it's worth, I saw "& Juliet" recommended by a friend. Great singing -- you'll know all the songs -- dancing, and silly plot. It's a fun show. read more

It's a great space. It has 3 public levels. The entrance is at balcony level and descends to the lower balcony and orchestra levels. There are 2 large multi-person restrooms on the lower balcony with wide doors for those who need assistance. A lounge area is also located on this level. Concessions are on the orchestra level. In January, I was at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre for a show. My cousin made his broadway debut in a supporting role this night. He is in the musical & Juliet, alongside TikTok sensation Charli D'Amelio, California in the house! The staff who work this theatre are pleasant and professional, everyone from the ushers, bartenders to the merch employees and volunteers. Security was a little cranky pre and post show but I guess that is that. I love the size and feel of the theatre. My best friend from the East Coast and I sat front and center (Note: these were not freebies). We loved every moment in these seats, from the gyrating Romeo to the sweat of Shakespeare. We thought my cousin was the funniest in the show and I loved the input of Shakespeare's wife. The lighting, stage sets and the costumes, just WOW! And, being a jukebox musical, the songs from an era, where you can dance! We took home just about every piece of merch we could carry and we stood in line outside to meet and greet the cast. We kept the confetti that dropped on us in out seats, the woman next to me told me it is good luck! Break a leg cuz! I can't wait to see where you go from here! We went to see &Juliet mid December. We sat in the middle seats of row HH of Mezzanine. These seats were excellent and under $100 each (I believe around $79 a seat). We loved this show - the music- the clever story line. It was funny and very entertaining even for my 17 year old son. The theatre is very close to Bryant Park and about 6 blocks from Rockefeller Center. Go see this play! read more

Beautiful theatre with seats that actually provide some leg room! We saw & Juliet here last night, fantastic show. Orchestra seats were great. Note, you actually go down a level for orchestra when entering the theatre. The floor above orchestra has a bar and lots of bathrooms. The women's restroom had a massive line and staff informed us that the men's restroom is actually an all genders restroom so as long as we were comfortable walking past men using urinials we were welcome to use. A bunch of us jumped ship to the restroom, noted a couple very confused and uncomfortable men with us ladies in there. There are substantially less stalls in that bathroom so in the end, it was not faster. The line to get into the theater moved very quickly. Would definitely see another show here. read more

Came to the Stephen Sondheim Theatre to see &Juliet during Broadway week! Nice theatre and not a bad seat in the house. Check in process was quick and staff was friendly and helpful to direct everyone. Restrooms were on the 2nd floor and plenty luckily the lines went quickly so that everyone could get seated quickly before and during the intermission. Definitely a plus but best to go quick. Came to the theater to see &Juliet - loved the show... funny and very entertaining and loved the pop songs of BSB, Britney Spears, and others!! Lucky to watch the show with Joey Fatone (NSync singing BSB) and Charli D'Amelio (Dancing with the Stars and TikTok sensation) for limited time! Go see &Juliet on Broadway! This is the review for the current production of & Juliet in Stephen Sondheim theater. A modern retelling of a popular Shakespeare classic, this show features many notable pop songs in its 2 hr 30 minutes run. The story was insanely camp and featured TikTok sensation Charlie D'Amelio. I was able to stagedoor after this performance and everyone was nice enough to take pictures with me. Choreography, stage design, costume and song choice was 10/10 in this production. The storyline was often nonsensical and could use some work. Nonetheless, I had a fun time watching this show. read more

Happily enjoyed watching & Juliet on Broadway at the Steven Sondheim theater inNYC. I saw the 7:30 PM EST show on a Wednesday evening. I sat in row hh; seat 17 in the mezzanine section and I totally enjoyed each and every second of the play. From here, one can have a significantly pleasant view of the stage. Loved how they turned William Shakespeare's traditional play into a pop Broadway musical. Overall the vibes and twisted story plot was very modernized and super sensational. Holly K and I were able to get some last minute tix to see & Juliet and not only were the seats fabulous, but the entire experience was fabulous! The show was on a Tuesday night and we had no line to get in, a very short line at the bar to get a drink, and no problem finding our seats. Employees were friendly and the theatre was clean... There was even a bathroom attendant at intermission keeping the line moving... It's worth mentioning that the aforementioned bathroom did have a long line and the drinks at the bar were pretty expensive, but that's understandable both at NYC and at a Broadway show! The show itself was so well done and fun... I highly recommend it if you find yourself in the city with an opportunity to go... do it! read more

The theatre itself is fine. It's a typical theatre with the worn out flip seats and usual layout. At the (outside) entrance they try to rush people in as to not cause congestion, however they keep tell ppl to move along and go through when the person in the worker auditorium entrance is trying to help patriots with their (digital) ticket and that causes a congestion. Stop(!!) telling me to keep moving when the person in front isn't able to move forward. That was annoying. Once you're inside, if you use the restroom it's actually ran like a well-oiled machine. There's a worker inside letting you know if a rr stall is available, as well as direct you to the nearest working sink. It's very effective and efficient. Now, for the show. We watched "& Juliet". I will admit I didn't know anything abt the show previously. The family (older members) decided to watch this act. The show is good. The way they insert songs into the act is done well. There were some things I didn't expect- the use of profanity language (S & F word), along sexuality/gender. Which is fine but I just didn't expect it. Not sure if it's fit for young children but each to their own to decide. The teens seem to like it, as well as the adults. Very impressed with prop design. Overall- Good read more

Wow "&Juliet" was such a fun show to watch! I haven't watched a musical since before covid and I was reminded of how much I had enjoyed them! I got my ticket during a sale so it was a great price. I loved how all the pop songs were incorporated into the plot so seamlessly. I heard a lot of songs from my younger days and it almost felt like a nostalgic visit to the past. Maya Boyd absolutely killed it as Juliet, during her first solo song, I literally had tears in my eyes by the time she finished singing it. She did all the songs so much justice as she always sang with such clarity and power depending on the scene. The surprise appearance by De Bois band was one of my favorite parts of the show as their performance had everyone waving their hands like it was an impromptu concert. I was seated in orchestra on the left side row N closer to the center and honestly it was a great view. Each row was one step lower than the one in front so unless someone has a super tall torso, the stage wasn't blocked at all. The restrooms were on the lounge level so it gets quite crowded during intermission and after the show. Best to go right before the show starts. read more

Came here to watch & Juliet, which was AMAZING. It was my first time seeing a show in the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, and I had a great time here! The seats and stairs are a little steep, and it's kind of small compared to some of the other Broadway theaters, so definitely be careful when navigating the seats and stairs. I sat in Mezzanine GG 110. Great seat smack-dab in the center of the mezzanine area, with a great bird's eye view of the stage! At the end of the show, streamers and confetti showered the seats. read more

The theatre is renovated so the seats are much roomier and comfier than other Broadway theaters and with plenty of restrooms (don't be scared by the line! It moves fast!). The staff is friendly & helpful and the theatre is very well laid out! The orchestra is down two flights of stairs (but there's an elevator to your left as you enter) and the bathrooms are located one flight down. The show currently in the theatre - & Juliet - is a must see! A musical with music featuring your fave pop hits of 90s/2000s music all exploring what would happen if Shakespeare & his wife re-wrote Romeo & Juliet so that Juliet lives! This is a nice theater for buying some Mezz tickets. You don't feel cheated if you purchase some Mezzanine tickets when you come here, meaning you still get a pretty decent view and don't feel like you're looking at ants performing or that you've wasted your money staring at the back of someone's head or the over hang of the upper level. I went for the sing a long which was hosted by AJ McClean of the BSB and boy did we have a time! Sometimes the monitors were a bit delayed with the lyrics but it was fun all the same. And with certain songs, who needs the lyrics?! LOL So regarding the theatre when you walk in the mezz is on the main level. I went on a Thursday evening and had seat FF 107. The view was actually really good. To get to the orchestra level you have to go downstairs. Also, if you can get there early go to the restroom and get your drinks or memorabilia then because the intermission line is one of the longer ones I've seen. I mean the line literally wraps around and then goes up or down stairs. The seats are super close to each other, so you don't feel uncomfortably squished. read more

We came here to see &Juliet. We sat in Mezzanine HH 101 and Mezzanine HH 102. ***LOCATION*** Sandwiched in between Broadway Ave and 6 Ave, this 43rd st. theatre is in a prime location. Thankfully the street it's on isn't too busy, so you only get the crowds from the show you're seeing. ***EXPERIENCE*** I made sure to get an aisle seat because my partner is tall. He was happy to be able to have some extra room for his legs because the seats don't provide a lot of legroom for taller folks. I'm about 5'2" and was ok, but he's 6"3' and needed that extra space. I liked being higher up because there weren't any heads blocking my view and I had a great view of the stage. I really loved the musical itself. &Juliet is a romcom about if Juliet in Romeo and Juliet doesn't kill herself after she finds Romeo dead. The songs in it are early 2000s and 2010s pop hits. We had A LOT of fun with this one. The theater itself is pretty small. ***PRICE*** They're Broadway tickets, so they're not cheap. The cheapest tickets I could find were $132 each. It was so worth it. Plus I love musical theater. ***BATHROOMS*** The bathrooms are gender neutral. The one with urinals only has four stalls, but the other one has over 30 stalls. Except during intermission, it was easy to use them. They were kept clean and well stoked. ***CONCLUSION*** This was a great theater! The seats were pretty comfortable, the show was amazing, and the staff was beyond kind. I'd highly recommend watching &Juliet if you're looking for a Broadway show! read more

Another major difference is the orchestra level seating is located below the street level so you have to go down stairs to reach, while the mezzanine is on the street level. Overall a comfortable experience. I had tickets to the new show "& Juliet". This was EXCELLENT!!!! Very polished for a new opening. Nice theater with bigger than typical Broadway seats. Line to check in moved fast and so did lines for the bathroom. &Juliet was a great performance, loved the music. Of course the food and drink (half a can of ginger ale and peanut m&ms were $15) are terribly over priced but that's typical for Broadway. Pro tip- bring a reusable water bottle and fill up at the water fountain. I've been doing this for shows bc it will save you $11. Also, it's easy to pack some snacks in your purse zipper (I brought pirate booty, cookies, and chocolate). Just make sure it's not easy to see or put it in a make up bag. There was plenty of leg room and the seats were spacious. There were so many bathrooms and before and after the performance there was no line. The theater was renovated several years ago and definitely thought was put into it . I found out the theater was designed to meet green standards. Wow wow wow what a spectacular Broadway show. I cried (I'm a big baby) lol. The show, the song choices , the theme and moral of the show and lastly seeing my good friend live out her dreams . I was overwhelmed with happiness and gratitude to just be there . Rachel Webb who now stars as Juliet is a good friend of mine since our highschool days. She always loved to perform, and we also attended a theatre scholarship together back in high school. We always stayed connected, and she said I must come see her perform . Rachel blessed me with a few tickets to tonight's show in which I was HONORED. I sang all the songs word for word (millennial) lol and it brought me great joy. The actors and actresses did a wonderful job . I was so proud to see my school mate and friend up there in bright lights, living her dreams . Comfortable and modern, if a little utilitarian. It was renovated this century, so there's decent legroom and pretty comfortable seats by Broadway standards. The public areas actually have enough space to move around without jostling. I typically like to sit in the mezzanine anyway just to get a better view of the flow of a show, and it's particularly advantageous here. The street-level entrance leads right into the back of the mezzanine, so if you are sitting in that section, it's easy to exit. Sitting in the orchestra here would involve going down a level and then back up to get out, so it's the opposite layout of most Broadway theaters. read more
