The Lena Horne Theater is looking great for almost 100 years old! I love that it's the first theater on broadway named for a black woman. I love that the bathrooms are purposefully equipped to welcome all people comfortably. They have a curtained urinal area for "privacy" in the men's room so the stalls can be unisex. There are out in the open urinals as well, but I doubt there are ever enough men in line to necessitate their use. Either way, really helped cut down the long women's line and was really well executed. It's like someone put a lot of thought into solving a problem while taking the needs of everyone involved into account. Wow, crazy thought. Good job, people! It's another smaller feeling theater. Beautiful and old without being run down. Seats were a tiny bit less comfy than some others, but not bad for 90 minutes. More legroom than some theaters but not the most. SIX is a fabulous musical telling of herstory. See it, love it! Pro tip: if the show you want to see is not going to sell out, wait and buy tickets right before the show at the box office. May 17, 2026. Last night in New York City before a Monday departure back to San Francisco. Purchased tickets a week in advance in orchestra row L, seat 111 for $56 through www.tdf.org. Line of women for the 12 toilets in the women's restroom before the play, as SIX is 80 minutes long with no intermission. 1069 seats across two levels. Prime view of the play. Very high energy performance with lots of singing and dancing with a primarily female cast showing six wives of Henry VII I. Somewhat farcical plot lines of why each of the potential wife should next in line. I reviewed this play as had a rare opportunity to record the portion after the final curtain call, with permission from the cast. You can see everyone continuing to stand after the final curtain call. 730pm showing and we got out of there by 9:20pm, enough time to walk 30 minutes back to our timeshare, and pack for our departure the next day. Third time I've seen the play, In London, NYC, and again in NYC, and still enjoyed it tremendously, even though it has been playing since November 2020 in NYC. read more

We came here to see Six. The security line moved very quickly. They do not allow outside food or beverages, so be mindful if you are bringing leftovers from a meal prior to the show. The lobby of the theater is notably small. There's just enough room for a souvenir counter and not much else. Multi-stall bathrooms are on the second floor, but they do have one accessible single stall, gender neutral option on the first floor. The seats were comfortable, but a bit low and very tight, width wise. Not a lot of room to spread arms and elbows. Tall folks may struggle with the knee room as well. We sat in the orchestra and had a good view of the stage. They open the side doors of the theater when the show ends, so you can exit pretty quickly, despite the crowd. read more

We saw Six here. Wonderful show. The seats are a bit tight which is to be expected in these old theatres. There was a staff member controlling the traffic flow in and out of the restroom created a very efficient environment. Great view of the stage from the second row in the mezzanine. read more

I came to see The Six by myself. It's a small theater but that means the view is pretty awesome from all the seats. I sat in the balcony, Row E, seat 2 and could see everything. There's a gift store on the ground floor and second floor, next to concession, where they have special drinks for the show. I love that they give you the drinks in plastic cups with covers so you can bring it into the theater and not worry about spilling. Knocked a star off for the size of the seats- they are so small that my knees were hitting the rail in front of me and i'm only 5'1". My boyfriend who's 6'6" would not be able to fit. read more

It's a fairly small theater, we were on center row B (which was the third row, there is an AA before the A row). Although we looked up just a little (and I mean very little), It was a an excellent view, with no neck strain. My (adult) daughter did say she liked the sits, but wouldn't want to sit that close again. Going back a couple of rows might have been good, but I enjoyed seeing the faces of the actors so well, including eye contact. We saw Six, so that just added to the fun. The only negative for me was the sit cushion was flat and lumpy, and during the show my bottom was sore. read more

It's a decent-sized theater. It doesn't matter where you sit, you will get a good view of the stage. We visited the theatre to watch Six. It was a greta performance. The acoustic was great. This is the review for the current production of Six:the Musical, playing at the Lena Horne theater. This is quite possibly the shortest Broadway show I've seen. In its 1 hr 30 minutes run, the show introduced 6 titular characters: the queen consorts of Tudor England. The musical was made to imitate a popular concert with strobe lights and catchy instrumentals. Student rush is available for $35. This musical features very catchy original songs and even won best original score in the previous years. I had an amazing time in the first row of the mezzanine and had an unobstructed view of the stage. read more

This theater is absolutely beautiful. Seating is clean and easy to read. All have good views of the stage. Restrooms are a well oiled machine with staff member helping guests move through the line. I absolutely loved the strategy of this. It was a little confusing with the drink line running along the restroom line, but they made it work. Really cool architecture of the theater. We arrived a few minutes before the show after being advised don't show up early just to wait in line. Exiting was tight but staff kept the line moving. An usher when above and beyond by offering to retrieve a booster for a shorter member of our group. read more

The Lena Horne Theater is an absolutely beautiful theater. My friends and I saw Six there at a Sunday 2pm showing. We got there and the ushers were very nice and moved people to their seats quickly. The line to the bathroom was LONG, but that's to be expected from every Broadway theater and their small, 4 stall restrooms. (I actually didn't use the bathroom so I don't know how many stalls they have, so don't quote me on that). As stated in other reviews, the seats are TINY. It's an old theater and space is limited. But with that said, there are great sight lines everywhere. We had seats up in the balcony, two rows back and the view was amazing. Though, my one friend on the aisle had to have one leg in the aisle because there was no room to put her entire body in her seat properly. It was like half a seat that spilled into the aisle. It was a little odd. The sound quality is fantastic, and of course the cast and their voices blew us all away. The show was phenomenal and SO much fun. The songs are so catchy and I've been listening to the soundtrack every since seeing the show. Highly recommend! read more

The Lena Horne Theatre is in the heart of Broadway at 256 West 47th Street. The seating is tight snd close together. If you have long legs, you may want to sit on an aisle. It's a beautiful theatre with lovely architecture inside. This used to be called the Mansfield Theatre and after that, the Brooks Atkinson. All seats have a nice view of the stage. I came to see Six. The Six wives of Henry the Eighth are probably the most talented actors on Broadway right now. The pipes and voices on these women are beyond fabulous. I go to a lot of theater and could have passed on this and not missed a thing. Besides the singing... there is nothing to this show. I bought my tickets at TKTS and even st 50 off I felt like I spent way too much for the short 90 minute production with no intermission. Was it entertaining...yes (I've seen worse), was it short... yes, would I recommend it... not really. If you see a lot of theater... it's fine. If it's your first time in NY and want a real Broadway experience... spend your money elsewhere. read more

A historic and beautiful theater, this is definitely a throwback to yesteryear and one of the venues you just have to see. Given that my husband has very long legs, I always try to get a seat on the aisle for him and if possible, a row that will offer a little space in front. One thing we noticed about this theater has given its age, there is just simply not a lot of room to sit with your legs in front of you, it is simply side to side or manspread style! Rows are very close together. Audio is great and we had a wonderful view from the balcony. Side boxes are not sold due to obstructions from lighting and video equipment needed for the production. I surprised my daughter with tickets to see SIX while we were in New York for her Spring Break. The line to get in was wrapped around the corner but it moved quickly. They had merch on both floors which was very convenient, and surprisingly prices were better than at past shows! People were in our seats when we got there but the usher had them move pronto. The show is 90 minutes with no intermission and we enjoyed it. Great voices and a charming story. Our seats offered a great view of the stage even though we were snuggled with our neighbors. Had the opportunity to see Six during Broadway week, which offered a great deal ! Six is also one of two Broadway shows performing on a Monday evening. We had to wait in a very long line to enter , but once it started moving it moved rather quickly on cold, winter evening. Our seats were on the main floor and all of the ushers were very helpful. The lines for the bathroom before the show was very long , but the attendants kept it moving and organized and anyone who tried to cut the line , was scolded. The show was excellent. I did not know much about it before seeing it , and was pleasantly surprised. It was 90 minutes with no intermission. The only downside was the theater was cold and cold air was blowing on us throughout the show. The theater is small and visibility was very good. Seats were comfortable , and leg room was minimal, but this is not unusual. Sound was excellent. read more

Given a great majority of the audience were women, they had to take some women to us the men's restroom in order to get the show started on time. Got seats in center mezzanine and the view was great. Note: this was my first Broadway show. The theater was smaller and more intimate than I was expecting. Right when you get in the theater was on your right. The seats were pretty close to one another so it wasn't the easiest to squeeze by to get to our seats. Also go to the bathroom in advance because the line will get really long. I came to watch SIX, which was a musical about Henry VII's six wives. The music was very good and the singers were all super talented. The man working the front desk at Six the Musical was shockingly unprofessional and outright disrespectful. He openly mocked and spoke down to a guest because of her accent and her ability to understand him, which was humiliating to witness. This wasn't a misunderstanding--it was clear, intentional cruelty. Someone representing a Broadway production should never treat people this way. Gayle and I recently thoroughly enjoyed a Sunday Matinee perforance of "Six" at the Lena Horne Theater. There's a separate Yelp listing under "Six", but I'd prefer to talk about the production in conjunction with the venue. Six is a winner both as light and fun entertainment, but with travelling Broadway "Legs". A friend of mine saw it in Des Moines, and we'll see it again in Reno for this upcoming season. It's 80 minutes long (with no intermission), you leave happy, and pretty much forget about it within a couple hours. Contrast that with another production we attended later - Leopoldstadt. That one still haunts me a couple weeks later. Both plays are Tony Award winners. What's the show about? To quote from the program: "From Tudor Queens to Pop Icons, the SIX wives of Henry VIII take the microphone to remix five hundred years of historical heartbreak into a Euphoric Celebration of 21st century girl power! This new original musical is the global sensation that everyone is losing their head over!" The Lena Horne Theater was an easy walk from our Midtown Hilton hotel. Snug theater currently showcasing SIX the musical. This show was absolutely so much fun and the songs were so catchy. I loved the message of the show and the cast have some insane vocals. Honestly they could all qualify to be pop stars. I love that this is a musical that takes a classic topic and puts a modern pop twist on it in various styles. I got orchestra or ground floor seats on the very far left and paid $200 each on a Saturday. Strangely enough the same seats on a Monday would have cost $250. I would have thought weekends would be more expensive. Anyway, seats were comfy but fairly easy to see. Tough luck if you're sitting behind someone tall though. The sound quality is good although in the beginning it felt like it needed to be adjusted for the power of the singers. Small bags are allowed but you will do a bag security check. Be warned there is absolutely no photography or videography and the ushers will definitely reprimand you so don't even think about it. I watched some lady get scolded and watched like a hawk for 10-15 minutes. Don't be that person in the audience, it's rude! We could not visit New York City and not check out a Broadway show. We chose Six the Musical and it was fabulous. Purchased tickets online and we arrived to the theatre about 45 minutes to doors opening, and the line was wrapped around the building. It was a little scary and discouraging, thinking how long the lines were. But slowly but surely the line moved quickly and once we got into the doorways, they made sure no outside food or drinks were brought in. Staff were very friendly and there were a ton of them every few feet, which made it nice because everything ran smoothly. Sat in Orchestra M103-107 which is dead center with the stage. Perfect seats. Great theatre, not too big and honestly every seat in the house is fantastic. Next time we would have loved to sit in the balcony area. Bathrooms are located on the 2nd level and long lines. Not too many stalls, but it moved fairly efficiently and also had a bathroom attendant to make sure people were moving in and out. My bus group attended the Saturday matinee performance of SIX on August 17, 2024. We had a wonderful experience from start to finish. As a person with mobility issues, I asked one of the gentleman monitoring the line outside the theater if they had any handicapped accessible seats available. He recommended speaking to the house manager once we got inside. The line outside the theater was rather long and it was starting to rain. This kind young man Ahmad told us to follow him , and he brought us into the box office area and invited us to sit until it was time to enter the theater. Ahmad stayed with us and chatted until it was time for him to get everyone ready to come in. My group was allowed in first and the staff had already alerted the house manager who promptly found me the perfect seat. The staff made sure we knew where the accessible rest rooms were located and even had the roving souvenir vendor come to my seat for my convenience! Wow! That is service! SIX was outstanding! I loved the costuming, choreography, vocals...the cast was phenomenal! The show was 80 minutes with no intermission and the time flew. I was sad when it was over. Energetic! Innovative! Inclusive! Highly entertaining! Everyone at the Lena Horne Theater is to be commended for their kindness and professionalism. Go see this amazing show! read more
