However, once I stated that a previous dentist diagnosed me with an oral condition that's common amongst African-American women (periapical cemento-osseous dysplasia), He referred to me as "the Blacks". I could not believe my ears, and I know the dental hygienist also heard him say it. As the visit ended, he asked me if I had "any questions or dumb looks"? Once again, I could not believe what he said! I did not confront Dr. Cooner about anything he said. Instead, I spoke to two women who worked in the business office. They mentioned that "usually he's pretty good" and I was given a dental whitening kit for my troubles. After pondering the situation, I still felt uncomfortable. Consequently, I decided to take my business elsewhere and requested my dental records. As I was reading my dental document, I saw that the "professional", Dr. Cooner, insulted me again by calling me names. Attached is what he wrote in my dental record. Perhaps he was having a bad day. Nevertheless, due to his gross immorality and disrespectful nature, Dr. Leslie Cooner needs to take a course on cultural competence and social etiquette.

He was great with my dental anxiety and for almost 2 years I was not afraid of the dentist. But I won't be back as much as it pains me. The last time I was in it was rushed and I had an anxiety attack in the chair while the DAs chatted over me, also took almost a month to get over the pain from the shots the DA gave me- I don't do shots and again she was rushing and kinda rude it also didn't even numb the right spot so the actual dentist had to do it again when he came in. They scheduled me for 2 teeth to be done on a short day- did not tell me it was a short day. Thus, everyone was rushing. Then the DAs continued to make passive aggressive comments about my teeth which I always tell them up front they are all bad Dr. DeCoursey knows this I've literally spent so much money over the years for him to fix them. So the commentary needs to stop especially when the person already knows and is self conscious about it. Then ignored that I was even a person but more of an experiment. I paid a huge lump upfront. Then a bill for almost $900 more. They scheduled me for a cleaning and almost 3 hours before that appointment they called to let me know my insurance ran out and it would all be out of pocket so if I was seen that day it would be crazy expensive for a CLEANING and would need to come up with the money in 3 hours. The good thing is they will let you make payments on high bills for work already done as long as you make regular payments. They do not tell you they charge a "finance charge" every month you don't pay it in full. So basically interest. I was making regular payments, but noticed when I would get the bill in the mail it wouldn't go down much. I finally just paid it all off today. But this is a total mess, and communication with patients needs to be better. Also, it would just be better to call your insurance before hand and ask how much they cover and what they cover so you don't get mixed up like this. Again, this is nothing about Dr. DeCoursey or his original team. They were and always have been AMAZING. I hope they continue to do well, but I won't be back. I will not recommend this place, and will look for a new office soon.

Later I received a large bill and was notified after services that my sons coverage only was not active. Had I been provided honest information prior to services i could have contacted the insurance and resolved the issue or considered other options, there was no emergency. They did not take any responsibility for their mis informing. Instead they made false accusations to try and cover their error. Lack of integrity and doing the right thing to resolve this large bill. Instead they sent it to collections. Integrity goes further than money! Choose a dental family that is honest up front and seeks resolution rather than a way to get money and doesn't care about losing patients. Speaks volumes!

First, assistants are clearly not trained on taking X-rays; so they end up taking three times as many. This happened twice, and both times after I had already been told I wouldn't need further xrays because my previous ones were recent enough to be of use. Twice they suddenly canceled my appointments after I was in the chair. Twice Dr Gildon got confused about which tooth we were working on, claiming not to ever have known, though she'd confirmed it at the previous appointment; then after canceling my appointment and when I came back again, she suddenly claimed to know which tooth it was... and then in the end she would not work on it at all. If there was an issue, she could have mentioned it before I took the time to go in twice more, not to mention have all those unnecessary X-rays and going to a dentist during COVID!!! Finally, the one tooth Dr Gildon worked on on my first visit now has decay and discoloration and sensitivity all around, none of which it had before. I would not trust or recommend this place.
