IF YOU ARE SPECUFICALLY DEALING WITH MENTAL HEALTH, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU!…read more There is no outlet or group support available for those struggling with mental health here. So much so, that someone committed suicide last week. Second Chance mainly caters to NA/AA clients and money. Claims of Faith Based is an exaggeration too. If looking for a Faith Base program, try GRACE, Butterfly Hearts, or Nashville's Rescue Mission Life Program. I understand that Second Chance us a self-sustaining halfway house but cramming 5-6 people in one living space can be overwhelming esp with one bathroom. Each duplex/triplex holding up to 15-28 people. The kicker being average rent us $185+/wkly for a SHARED room (up to $800/mo) and $225+/wkky for an INDIVIDUAL room (up to $1k/mo). Most clients here are working 2+ jobs, dealing with personal issues like court/etc, sobriety; there's no implementation of a savings program for when they need to transition out of the program. I understand Second Chance has to deal with housing insurance, housing maintenance, pest control (if you're at 215A/B - rats are rampant and the dead carcasses aren't discarded which leaves the entire duplex smelling -- their solution is only to use peppermint oil to mask the scent), yard maintenance, possibly appliance upgrades (which many have complained that refrigerators were missing shelves/too small or clients were even told to come out of pocket for their own dorm size mini frig), and bus maintenance/insurance (bus automatically shuts off while being idle, no a/c , and is too small for taking groups to AA meetings - some have had to uber/take the bus). However, if you're receiving. a minimum of $11k-17k/mo per duplex/triplex -- there should be ZERO issues. Brian, owner, simply doesn't care about the clients; only about the money so he can afford his next trip to Columbia or upgrades on his lake house. I gave two stars due to two hard working individuals, Victoria & Nate. Victoria is blunt nor does she coddle - she will work with you to make sure you have what you need. Nate is an outstanding, hardworking individual that does maintenance for Second Chance housing, may not be done when you want it but it will get done! Fair warning: *If you don't already have a job, can't get a job in the alloted time frame (generally 2 weeks), or disabled but not receiving unemployment/SSD -- this is not the place for you either. **Sending out love and positivity to those that are dealing with sobriety; it's hard but in the end it'll be worth it!

The communication from staff was non-existent, residents could come and go as they pleased with no supervision, guests could visit whenever, and there was little to no structure to the program. I have never seen such a poorly run program. The drug use in the facility is rampant and as of today's date, there is an infestation of bed bugs. There are some great 12 step programs out there. Please keep looking!

My son checked himself into this facility after reading good reviews/seeing nice pictures posted of…read morefacility. We were told this is Christian based, don't follow 12 steps, will have mental health nurse visit 1 x wk, no cellphone for 30 days. Within 1 wk he was texting me from his phone. When I asked Dennis (account finance employee) he stated my son didn't have his phone, it was locked up. I reported he indeed was texting me. It was taken and supposed to have been locked up once again. I was told he would have appt at ACT clinic to get detox meds, and meds for depression if needed but they have Suboxone on site they could "give"until he got to clinic. He was taken to clinic for MD to write a personal script for Suboxone and had to self pay because ACT clinic in Murfreesboro wouldn't take private insurance. Stones River reports would make another appt to discuss meds due to lack of sleep and depression we reported (nurse never came on-site). This appt was missed as the residents went on a trip out of town. He was taken back to the clinic and was given a script for additional Suboxone and no meds for depression or lack of sleep. Jerry, owner reports don't support Suboxone further and can't stay if use. My son agreed not to cont use of Suboxone as Jerry requested because he wanted to stay at Stones River, follow rules, and get better. At this point he has not seen "mental health nurse" that was supposed to come on site. I followed up on sleep meds and Dennis reports, "Oh he's doing good and Jerry is giving him over the counter meds for sleep." During next visit with my son he reported Jerry gave him Trazodone for sleep "under the table." It's a good thing he wasn't allergic to this or wasn't given too high of dose. Next, my son reports he was asked to call and sign up for EBT (food stamps). One week later he text me and ask if I can bring food bc he is hungry and there isn't a lot of food. He never received his EBT card the entire time he was there. Isn't this fraudulent?? One of his roommates had a visit from his girlfriend, she brought drugs in, his roommate relapsed, was allowed to leave premises bc they have zero structure and is now deceased. After 30 days my son was able to have his truck on premises and became an intern for facility. He was supposed to drive residents to work. Numerous times he drove home bc they were on "honor system." During a visit he reported bug bites from bed bug infestation at the facility. While he was driving the other residents to work and "store" with no auto insurance he was cited a parking ticket. Apparently no one from the facility bothered to check to see if he had auto insurance while driving their other residents to and from work and didn't know he got a ticket. Just shy of his 60 days he reported his truck was stolen and retuned with a "blow out." His keys were taken by house mate who was ex marine & prisoner. Jerry reports my son gave permission to drive truck and my son was "probably bring drugs in." My son relapsed during his stay there. Each time I asked Jerry if drug test were clear I was told yes. My son reports limited drug testing and the ones he could pass were cheap ones that don't pick up the drugs that were being used. The resident who stole the truck was found with a loaded pistol under his bed. Jerry decided my son could not come back because there wasn't room. My son does not have a criminal record, is under the age of 21, and was devastated there "wasn't room." This was a blessing in disguise. I voiced my concerns to Jerry and the same day he decided to make room. I thanked Jerry for offering but declined further services. I am a member of an Al-Anon group. We follow the twelve step program but I decided to let my son choose his recovery and give this Christian based facility a try bc I am a believer. I cont to pray for the safety of those who enter this facility. I strongly urge you to do your research bc there are wolves in sheep's clothing. It is by God's grace that my son made it out of Stones River alive. May God have mercy on you Stones River Recovery.
