THE DRIVING RANGE is manned by the Gestapo. If you go to a mat where a few balls were left,Richie will curse you out and get into a shouting match, insisting that UNUSED paid for balls belong to the range EVEN IF YOU ARE SHARING A PRE TEE TIME BUCKET WITH A BUDDY. He will also tell you that you are cheap. What a d**k. I have avoided the range for the most part because of the bullying and it ruins what might otherwise be a pleasant day. The rest of the staff, rangers and starter are efficient,friendly and helpful. I don't need to drivee from Manhattan to get insulted I can walk to Broadway and be abused. This is a beautiful golf course. Extremely well maintained. But honestly, kind of boring to play. The staff here isn't the most friendly group of people I've ever met. And they never seem to know how to work their computer system(lost reservations, etc.). However, they do offer free greens fees for active duty military which is super awesome of them. Though sometimes I feel like we get treated a little second rate since we aren't paying (This is a fairly upscale golf course, we don't exactly make the kind of money most of their clientele does). As for the course itself, like I said...beautiful and well maintained, but it just kind of feels like the same hole over and over again. Definitely not one of my favorites. Also, as a note to the beginner, this course is fairly challenging and as previously mentioned, this is a rather upscale place, so be sure to be polite and let people play through, etc, if necessary. read more

I went to the course to utilize the driving range. It was a busy Saturday so understable if you have to wait to use the range. After a few minutes a spot on the second tier opened up. I was then kicked out of the top due to the fact that they do not allow left handed players on the second level. I asked the employee to guide me to the left handed player only section which they do not have one."you can wait to use the bottom section"... Yes this is correct, however with a right only section where is the left only section? This is a form of discrimination and is illegal which subsequently creates an unwelcoming feeling to left handed players. read more

Had to let other golfers know what this place is all about - bad conditions, overpriced, slow pace, pathetic staff. Bucket of balls (at the concrete range with rubber tees and mats) is $15. Round with cart is ~$70. NOT WORTH THE MONEY. There are other, much better, more reasonably priced courses in the area. The crowd is older Stamford residents who are not very good (place is a shooting gallery). Staff is a lot of irascible pensioners who don't care about your experience at the course. Additionally, there are about 5 holes where your chances of being drilled by a range ball flying over its short fences. Overall bad experience at this place. read more

The tee time system is horrible. It's an online system and it's a very shitty one at that. It's damn near impossible to find out what tee times are available and how much it costs. Once I was able to book the tee time I needed to revise it but the system would not allow me to because it was "being accessed by another user" WTF??? This is on top of the convoluted system of residency cards etc that is total bullshit. They make it very difficult to get a tee time and play on this course. Conversely, the driving range is open to the public and very accessible and simple to use. I would recommend going to the driving range here but actually playing somewhere else. read more

Their automated system is frustrating and unaccommodating, not to mention a completely different number you have to dial for reservations. Once you get through the automated message demon, you are then informed promptly that you MUST register as a first time golfer online. I get it, I am in the technology field and it is quite convenient at times, this is not one of those times. Are you joking with this system? I've played here before and it was enjoyable, but based on this experience of trying to find out a simple tee time, while interacting with an actual person, has simply, left me dissatisfied. For a municipal course, you really can't get any better. Great price, great range, good pro shop/restaurant. The grounds keeping crew deserves kudos bc that course is in A+ shape. The course can get a little crowded, so expect 4.5 hours min round - and sometimes 5.5 at peak hours. But it's great they have spotters on several holes that help locate errant tee shots and keep the pace moving. read more

Awesome golf course. It's tough to get a tee time there but I can definitely understand why. The course is always in immaculate condition. The only complaint I have is the scores I post there tend to be a higher than normal but that could be more about my game than Sterling Farms. read more

This relates to the driving range only and is a case of taking advantage of being the only game (driving range) in town. As a result of no competition, it's pricey and they've let the conditions deteriorate: many of the driving mats are torn or ripped, some of the tees won't stay upright, and the balls are terrible. Unfortunately, its the only driving range around and until there's competition, there may be little hope of Sterling properly maintaining the range. read more

The attendant was very friendly when I showed up. There are two levels that you can hit golf balls from and there is seldom a wait. I was able to get in and out very quickly. The golf course looked very nice as well. read more

Being a Stamford resident has it's perks! Especially with golf. Sterling farms is one the best golf facilities in the area. Their driving range is great, tons of chipping and putting areas. The course is extremely maintained. Downside is that you really have to find a perfect time to play because the course can get jammed. Can't say their food is the best, even though I heard Zody's replaced the Players Club but still wasn't impressed with what they brought out. I felt it was the same exact stuff. read more

If you live in Stamford this course makes getting the resident golf permit worth it. The course is well maintained for the amount of play it gets throughout the season. Downside is that you really have to find a perfect time to play because the course can get busy. read more

Course is well maintained for a muni, but the design and layout is terrible. Gimmicky best describes it. They jammed 18 holes into a small piece of land, with greens abutting each other and fairways so close together that you can't relax and enjoy a peaceful round because you fear getting pelted in the melon by the plethora of hackers on the course and the constant roar of "fore!" And top it off with really cranky and rude rangers all over the place. Felt like I just played a round on the freeway. Save your money. read more

I went to DEMO day at Sterling Farms and bought a set of Irons. Was told it would take a week to get my clubs but actually it was more like three weeks and one of the clubs in the set was wrong. Not Sterling's fault but they NEVER called, It's now almost four weeks the club came in yesterday and I had to call them and ask where my "MIA" club was. "Oh, its here" i was told when I had to call for the 5th time. The customer service in the pro shop is NON EXISTANT. read more

Great course but the staff was rude as hell .. Where to start .. When we first got there the guy at the tee time but was already giving attitude and then when I had to get a score card it was like the end of the world ... I totally understand pace of play is important but when you have a group of 4 and a group of 3 behind you well you do the math .. I'm trying to enjoy my day off of work and go as fast as I can but when staff member is yelling at you for being " slow" I have an issue ..first of all I tried to explain we are going as fast as the game lets us and how we respect the rules but apparently lance bass didn't care ..then when one of the members on the goon squad was watching us I felt rushed so I drove off so we get yelled at again .. Great course but the staff was rude as hell ..I didn't appreciate the unprofessionalism and I would avoid playing here unless you are trying out for the PGA or LPA tour ..bush league staff read more
