I've been to a lot of different golf courses around town and this place is hands-down one of the best! Everyone is friendly. Everyone is helpful. The greens are beautiful driving range is awesome. I can't say enough good things about this place!

    Beautiful wildflowers..

A very pleasant place to golf nice ocean breezes and a wide-open Fairways with beautiful flowers and Landscaping.

Since Olivas Links is near the beach side, the temperature is much cooler and fresher than other golf courses in LA. Courses are wide-open with 6,818-yard and par 72. The scenery view is good and the greens are well-maintained. However, the only restroom in the middle of the fairways requires a passcode. It is better to get the passcode at the pro shop. The main restroom at the pro shop was also small. The beverage cart was convenient for some drinks and snacks.

Great course for being open to the public. Olivas Links was maintained terrifically from the perfect fairways, manicured bunkers, level tee boxes and true rolling greens. I teed off at 10:30 am on a Saturday and the pace of play was good. The weather was a perfect 70 degrees and no breeze. Finished the round in about 4 hours which is good for weekend play. The only con at Olivas Links is that they still don't have a clubhouse, only a temporary structure. Hopefully they'll resolve this eventually.

There were cute little bunnies hopping all over the course :)

Only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars: the clubhouse is non-existent and the bathrooms stink to high hell. I'm hoping they'll build a real clubhouse soon instead of using the ghetto portables. Maintenance: better than a lot of other courses in socal. For example, I played Rancho San Marco in Santa Barbara for a $69 twilight tee time, and the fairways were just dirt. No grass. Here at Olivas, the tee boxes, fairways, rough, bunkers, and greens were beautifully kept. I also like that you can practice chipping on the practice putting green. Random: a guy that hit toward us from another hole had two shih tzus and said that dogs are allowed on this course. Not sure how legit that is, but if it's true, then cool!

What a fun challenging course to play. Mostly straight forward layout, but with great landscaping/tree and bunker placement/elevation changes to make it interesting. Links style, but a healthy dose of Serengeti views We were in for the weekend, and the course was in fantastic shape. Yeah, the "clubhouse" is a couple of trailers, but I'm told that's because they were in the process of building a new clubhouse when the California municipal economy went in the tank. Didn't matter to me. I go to a golf course to play golf, not hang in the clubhouse Rounds online were $57 a piece, but were basically free with the Stay And Play package we booked at the Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach. Nice deal I highly recommend it, and will be happy to play it again the next time I'm in town

    First tee box.

Therefore, eager to begin my golf journey I obtained golf instruction from Vanilla Gorilla Golf, as it seemed the most economical at the time. However, like the old cliché goes you get what you pay for. Understanding you can't learn golf in one lesson I signed up for a six-lesson package. Two out of those six lessons were spent working on the full swing. The four others included a putting, chipping, sand play, and on course lesson. Lessons are accompanied with a video review that includes voice commentary. Although I found it odd that I had to wait until after the lesson for an evaluation. It seems that perhaps an advanced teacher would be able to tell you how to improve during the lesson and make proper adjustments to do so. The on course lesson was rushed as we skipped from hole to hole awkwardly cutting in front of other golfers on the course in order for my instructor to get his video shot quickly. The one positive was the putting lesson. However, overall the true measure of an instructor is the progress of their students. For me, my minimal at best progress was accompanied with statements like "well looks like we need to sign you up for another package". Statements that help you see the true motivations of a businessman rather than a teacher. The techniques presented by Vanilla Gorilla Golf are non-existent in my current golf game, everything from the set up, grip, back swing, downswing and follow through. Currently I am not a PGA professional and will never be. Nevertheless, I am able to maneuver around a golf course with considerably less stress than when working with the Vanilla Gorilla "one plane swing". After cutting my losses and endeavoring on alternative instructional techniques that have allowed for success I would say skip the claims of becoming a better golfer in just one lesson. One last cliché; if it sounds to good to be true it probably is.

Reading a putt here isn't a matter of skill; it's a matter of luck, because no amount of green-reading ability accounts for a surface this poorly maintained. The driving range fares no better. The mats are worn through, the turf beneath them is patchy and hard, and hitting off of it feels less like practice and more like penance. The equipment doesn't help matters. The push carts are relics, and the motorized carts aren't much of an improvement sluggish, battered, running on batteries that seem perpetually on the verge of dying mid-round. And when I tried to rent one myself with a valid license in hand I was flatly refused because I'm under 18. Fine. Rules exist. But when I asked, reasonably, whether I could rent one under my parent's name instead, the staff didn't just say no they laughed. Openly. In my face. That kind of contempt for a paying customer isn't an oversight; it's a culture. The grounds themselves are no better maintained than the equipment. There's an active construction zone bordering part of the course, and the surrounding area is littered with trash along the sidelines. The lakes on the property sit empty and stagnant, more of an eyesore than a water feature at this point if the course can't be bothered to keep them filled, it says a lot about where their priorities are. I also came across two dead birds during my round, which says something about the general upkeep of the place. There were also several people loitering around the course grounds, which didn't exactly add to the sense that this is a well-managed, well-supervised facility. And then there's the matter of restrooms or the lack thereof. There are no real facilities on this course, just a scattering of porta potties, while the one or two actual restrooms on-site sit locked and inaccessible for the entire round. Between the diseased-looking greens, the derelict range, the neglected grounds, and a staff that treats basic customer questions with open ridicule, Buenaventura isn't just an underwhelming round of golf it's an insult to anyone who pays to walk through the gate. I won't be back. Genuinely, I hope they get their act together fill the lakes, clean up the grounds, and treat their customers with a shred of respect because right now, I'd be surprised if anyone books a tee time there again.

Today, I purchased a wagon and the young lady who helped me was amazing. She brought the item down, answered my questions, and even offered to carry it for me. She was incredibly kind and deserves recognition for her outstanding customer service. One thing I noticed was that while I was carrying the wagon through the store, the only employees who offered help were female team members. I passed two younger male employees who didn't check in, even though I was clearly struggling a bit. I wasn't expecting anyone to carry it for me, but a simple offer to help would have been appreciated. I also want to recognize the older gentleman outside who checked on me while I was loading my car and made sure I was okay. Overall, this is still a great store. My only suggestion is to encourage all employees to check on customers carrying heavy items. Maybe because I wasn't older or looked like I struggled but it was heavy and seeing me struggle a bit - A small gesture can make a big difference.

I normally don't leave negative reviews, but this experience deserves to be documented, especially…read moreafter the manager told me that writing a review "wouldn't make a difference." I came in to exchange a pair of FootJoy golf shoes I bought here one week ago. I didn't have my receipt on me, so the associate scanned the shoes to look up the "lowest selling price." Their system came back with $19 for shoes I paid $110 for days earlier. When I asked how that number made any sense, no one could explain it. No price history, no verification, no transparency just "that's what the system says." I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable, just a fair exchange based on the actual purchase price. The part that pushed me to write this review was the manager's response. Instead of helping or even acknowledging the issue, he told me that leaving a review "wouldn't make a difference." That's not just dismissive, it's unprofessional. He said he wouldn't even consider making an exception because I had dropped the F-Bomb in reference to their insane store policy and ridiculous lowball valuation. He also demanded that I apologize to the associate for using the F word. For the record, I found my receipt and will be returning the shoes properly. But the principle matters. If their system is generating inaccurate "lowest selling prices," that affects more than just me. I'll be filing formal complaints with the appropriate agencies so this doesn't get brushed aside. I'm sharing this so other customers know what to expect if they try to make an even exchange without a receipt. A $110 purchase shouldn't magically turn into $19 because a system says so and a manager shouldn't act like customer feedback is meaningless.
