Before Kathleen, I had hired 17 years' experience (native English) lawyer, and the divorce process and life had been getting messed up. I was not sure if I had extreme stress because of divorce, lawyer, ex-spouse or me. I lost my control after 6-7 months later and decided to change the lawyer to Kathleen Dong who my friend of friends (they are lawyers too in the different subject) recommended. After that, I was able to breath and focus on my job and life. I let Kathleen led me to close the case. Kathleen stopped me what I wanted(desired) based on the current law. however, she was very flexible to decide to get the deal, effectively leverage timing, gave me advice in impacted short words and considered what I needed for my life after the divorce while she processed my divorce cases. She had not hesitated to respond to protect me and prevent any indirect insult from my spouse's lawyer. I felt comfortable to trust her. I am not sure that Kathleen is a good lawyer or right lawyer to others, but she is good to me. And, it is a true that Kathleen and her team help/support me to close the divorce within 3months after she accepted my case. Thanks again.

I tried getting him to respond to my follow up work over several months, and he was virtually nonresponsive. Additionally, while my engagement with Mr. Bisted was based on hourly billing, I never received any sort of accounting of his time nor any final invoice for his services. It seemed to me that he didn't know himself how much time he spent on my case. I believe good and fair lawyers are extremely rare, so I'd consider Mr. Bisted about average. He will probably get the job done, but don't expect responsive, clear communication :)

Nickel and dimes you for all small administrative happenings at the max lawyer hourly rate instead of utilizing support staff at a more fair hourly rate. Seemingly rounds up on time spent on simple email communications among everything else. Therefore sum of said charges was extremely expensive, contrary to promise of being quick and reasonable. My first lawyer said, "Due to the simple nature of the divorce, I may even get some of my initial retainer payment back. Took incredibly long time to dissolve marriage. Quietly discontinued counsel once marriage dissolved, instead of ensuring all financial equalization goes smoothly and all is finalized. Straight ignored any attempted correspondence after dissolution of marriage, related to delayed spousal support and equalization of finances. Im currently handling the still unresolved (3 years!) equalization of finances myself with my Ex spouses legal counsel who did not bounce as her attorney, before all concluded. Extremely pompous and arrogant. Unable to summarize and help me through the hurdles of disclosures, the MSA etc the entire way through. One of the worst experiences of my entire life, and by far the most expensive. Hire a mediation attorney and save your hard earned dough and your peace of mind.

My 3rd attorney issue was straightened out and hired Jess Smith at H & K. I was hesitant because she was such a young attorney; the same age as my daughter. This young woman saved me in so many ways. I will never be able to thank her enough for her emotional support and listening to some of my requests. I'm sure they were not normal but what is in this situation. She was on top of every document, request, response which were vast in numbers. Because California is a no fault state for divorces I feel it can be very lopsided if one has not pursued a traditional career. I had taken care of financials, home and child raising. As a woman who gave up her career as a graphic artist. I raised our daughter to become a wonderful doctor. I wore about 50 other hats to help my husband, daughter, household to succeed. Unfortunately they don't issue college degrees or adjust pay for this service. Conveniently he was laid off so he did not have to provide spousal support. Jess as a young attorney; I think had a lot to do with what she helped me to achieve since she was so fresh and had set no boundaries yet. I think this career choice can be a very difficult and I hope this young attorney realizes just how much she'll helps people like me. Jess Smith went toe to toe with the opposing seasoned attorney and actually showed much more skill at times. There were many times where she had to remind the opposing attorney about deadlines and responses times. Very rinky-dink and not very professional. They other attorneys seemed competent enough, but what he mapped out and the vision he had was never executed. He was no where near to be heard from to discuss. When asked where he was, I was told I was stuck with the second tier attorney. They all seemed competent enough, and I may not be the easiest client, but they get a major fail in how they handled the case.
